Finnish hardcore heroes UNKIND revealed the album details for their upcoming sixth full-length entitled Pelon Juuret (Translation: Roots of Fear).

The album was recorded with producer Kari Nieminen at Noisecamp studios in Turku, Finland at the end of 2012. Pelon Juuret continues in the direction of the group’s previous work, offering up a furious fusion of d-beat hardcore crossed with a highly creative touch of atmospherics — as if Mogwai made a record of Tragedy covers or From Ashes Rise were influenced by Explosions In The Sky.

The album will be released on CD/LP/Digital via Relapse Records on July 9 in North America, July 8 in the UK/World, and July 5 in Germany, Benelux and Finland. A trailer for Pelon Juuret is available here while exclusive pre-order packages are available via Relapse here.

UNKIND previously released five full-length albums and a handful of vinyl-only releases.  The band’s catalog is available for streaming via their official Bandcamp page here.

Norwegian viking neo-folk group WARDRUNA announced they will return to Oslo, Norway for an appearance at Riksscenen on Friday, October 18.

Multi-intrumentalist Kvitrafn commented,

“It’s been a long time since Wardruna performed in Oslo, so we are very excited to be presenting the songs from our new album Yggdrasil for our fans in Oslo!”

The band, additionally featuring vocalists Gaahl (ex-Gorgoroth, God Seed) and Linda Fay Hella, will also be seen making their debut live performances in the US and the UK; appearing at the Stella Natura Festival in California’s Tahoe National Forest in September and at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London later in October.

Yggdrasil is the second release in the band’s “Runaljod” trilogy, which interprets the runes of the elder futhark. Much like the first album in the series, gap var Ginnunga, the recording took place at locations relevant to the different runes using outdoor locations along with old and historical instruments such as deer-hide frame drums, mouth harp, clove and hoof rattles from deer and goats, bone flutes, goat and cow horns, Hardanger fiddle and bowed lyres.

Yggdrasil, which has been praised for it’s “gut-wrenchingly authentic riffage,” (Alibi) is currently available digitally on iTunes or in jewel-case cd format from the Prosthetic webstore! A limited edition bundle pack featuring the album along with a custom designed bronze necklace and a 32-page digibook containing extra artwork, translated lyrics, and further reading on the Runes concept is also available for pre-order HERE.

Power thrashers Sanktuary are proud to announce they will be unleashing their debut album Something Fierce on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 via Canadian metal label Spread The Metal Records.

Bassist Cole Hume comments:

“This journey has been quite the experience and we are incredibly stoked to unleash Something Fierce to the masses. So crack a cold one, strap on some clean undies and grab an umbrella ’cause this shit storm’s coming soon to a record store near you.”

Spawning from high school friendship and growing into something much more epic, Sanktuary kicked things off with two back-to-back EPs – 2009′s self-titled release and 2010′s Black Magic Brew – and soon followed that up with a massive move from Whitehorse, Yukon to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

After touring the country following their epic relocation and being faced with a major blow in Toronto that saw their van and nearly all their gear get stolen, Sanktuary turned things around with a third EP in 2011, Tundrastruck (a 3 way split with Black Moor and Metallian), followed by them signing to Spread the Metal Records, which sent them all the way back to Whitehorse to record Something Fierce.

“Sanktuary was one of the very first bands that I looked at for my label, Spread the Metal Records. They’ve been with me from the beginning and I believe in them so strongly that I’ve never let them go. The way that they’ve matured on this record is nothing short of astonishing” – Matthew Day of STM

Earlier last week, Forbes Magazine posted an in-depth piece on the comeback of vinyl and Record Store Day, written by Tim Clark. In a time where people are quick to label the current state of the music industry as “failing” or “experiencing a downfall”, Tim Clark points out that the independent record store experience illustrates otherwise.

2012-09-29 22.43.20IMG_1078IMG_1066IMG_1031

Down vocalist and Housecore Records CEO Philip H. Anselmo was interviewed for the piece, and gave his personal thoughts on the rise in record store activity and how it supports growth in the music business and community. As one of the leading voices of the recent indie label and independent music takeover, Forbes looked to Anselmo has a voice of authority.

From Forbes piece:

“When he was younger, Anselmo used to constantly scour underground record stores and to this day still believes in the vinyl format. ‘Record Store Day promotes this type of passion of having the actual product in your hand instead of just a download,’ said Anselmo. ‘I love having the full album, art, lyrics and I think vinyl sounds better. And as a label owner, it makes me happy to see that people slowly but surely want to have this tangible copy in their hands instead of a free [expletive] download, which is driving me [expletive] bananas.’ Record Store Day is now celebrated on the third Saturday every April is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music.”

Forbes calls Record Store Day, ‘an industry phenomenon.’

LOUNA: Hot Russian Singer! – Tons of New Album Promo Crap

Russian rockers LOUNA are pleased to share a new, exclusive video interview with Revolver Magazine. In the interview, the band discusses the new album Behind a Mask, rewriting their songs in English, misconceptions about LOUNA based on stereotypes, and more. You can watch the video now at Revolvermag.com.

LOUNA is poised to take over the American hard-rock scene with their new album, Behind A Mask, in-stores and available online April 30, 2013 via Red Decade Records and MEG/RED. Behind A Mask will open the eyes and ears of the American rock music scene by showcasing the pure blistering talent of LOUNA and the soaring vocals of the band’s lead singer Lousine “Lou” Gevorkian (in a world that has become immersed in autotune and over-production, Behind A Mask boasts true musical talent with only 10-15 seconds of vocal correction on the entire 45-minute record). Behind A Mask features 10 of the band’s best songs from their first two albums and have been painstakingly adapted into English by American producer and lyricist Travis Leake (the SLoT).
