French black metal innovators SETH are streaming the second new track from their forthcoming album, The Howling Spirit. The album is slated for a North American release date on June 11. The song, titled One Ear to the Earth, One Eye on Heaven is streaming here. The full track listing and the artwork can be found below:

SETH previously released a lyric video for the song Scars Born from Bleeding Stars here. The long-defunct band became reactivated following the 2012 re-release of their critically acclaimed 1998 debut Les Blessures de I’Ame. The reissue is re-mastered and includes two bonus tracks and brand new artwork and is currently available via Season of Mist on CD and hand-numbered, double gatefold LP limited to 500 copies.

Regarding the new incarnation of the band, band leader Heimoth issued the following statement:

“This is some exceptional moment for us as weare now officially back on the very same label that released our first album in ’98 and I guess this truly makes our recent comeback even more worthwhile. Both parts have taken different directions for more than 10 years but we are thrilled to unveil The Howling Spirit together. I personally feel this is a significant step forward born from the special relationship the band and SOM have had through the years.”

ARCKANUM Debut New Song

Cult black metal outfit ARCKANUM premiered a new song from it’s forthcoming new record, Fenris Kindir. The new track, titled Dolgrinn is streaming via Pitchfork. Fenris Kindir is slated for a North American release on May 14.

Regarding the new album, ARCKANUM mastermind Shamaatae (ex-GROTESQUE) said,

“This album is a dedication to the flaming giant-wolf, son of Loki; created from the Chaos-fires of Múspellsheimr. It is a tribute to the wrathful giant-wolf, son of Angrboða, found in the Ironwood where he is breeding hordes of giant monstrous wolves with Angrboða. His victorious name is Fenrir, also called Tungls Tjúgari! Hail Fenrir!”

Shamaatae continues;

“The sounds and music on this album are my auditory vision of the march of Fenrir convoyed with his hordes of giant wolves from the depths of the underworld to face Ragna Rök with warlike glory – deformed giant-wolves swarming in thousands. This is my tribute to the wrathful, harsh and untamed anti-nature of Fenrir’s mighty essence! The anti-cosmic enemy of the worlds! Heill Tungls Tjúgari! Heilir Fenris Synir!”

Tsurumi Records Releases Indie Horror Film Soundtrack

Seattle-based indie punk and garage rock record label Tsurumi Records release their first-ever soundtrack for the underground indie horror flick The Revenant to online and physical stores today.

The Revenant marks the label’s first-ever release through their new digital distribution partner, French Kiss Label Group as well as the label’s first-ever soundtrack release. The physical release on CD is through their long-time partner, CPI Distribution, available through stores nationwide.

Staying true to vinyl, in May the label will also issue 500 limited edition vinyl copies of The Revenant on picture disc, with a subset specially packaged for fans of The Revenant through www.Fangoria.com. Vinyl pre-orders can be purchased now at www.tsurumirecords.com

“We are label focused on vinyl productions and this soundtrack is no different in that way,” enthuses label owner and Seattle resident Jeff Davis.

“We think fans of the movie will want these as collector items.”

The Revenant soundtrack features music from Tsurumi acts like garage punks The Beautiful Mothers and experimental rockers The Second Academy, international acts Aqualush and La Mala Rodriguez, classical music from two companies and even an appearance from seminal underground sensation The Shaggies.

“I’ve always been inspired by really good soundtracks, like Pulp Fiction and Clockwork Orange,” Davis adds.

Three years ago Davis’ good friend and independent film maker Kerry Prior, approached him about collaborating on a soundtrack for The Revenant; a modern take on a classic horror story, which he wrote, directed and produced.

The childhood friends grew up together in Cleveland, OH listening to and playing punk rock.

The Revenant began its film festival run with a premier at the 2009 at Toronto’s “After Dark” Fest, upon which they dubbed it one of the “10 Movies To See Before You Die.” It later ran in theaters in 2012 and is now out on DVD. Reviews ranging from diverse sources such as The Newark Star-Ledger to DreadCentral.com declare it “sure to become a cult classic.”

The film focuses on Second Lieutenant Bart Gregory (David Anders), who is killed under mysterious circumstances in Iraq only to find out that he didn’t really die. Rather, he is undead: a zombie-vampire hybrid, known as the Revenant. Bart needs blood to hold back decomposition and he finds his way around his new state against the dark backdrop of downtown Los Angeles.

The Revenant appears to be moving towards that cult status with a solid underground and online fan base that is growing daily. Every cult classic needs a killer soundtrack and now fans of The Revenant won’t have to wait any longer.

Norwegian industrial jazz-metallists’ SHINING are hosting a remix competition for I Won’t Forget, the first single/video from their new album One One One. Anyone can enter the competition by downloading a stems package and putting together their own remix.
