Metal titans CHIMAIRA announced a massive crowd funding campaign surrounding the release of their brand new LP, Crown of Phantoms. The album will be released on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

The band is seeking support for a special fan edition CD/DVD. This edition and its perks will only be available to campaign supporters and will not be sold anywhere else. Specifically,  supporters will be contributing to the following:

  • Two narrative music videos
  • A behind the scenes, Crown Of Phantoms making-of documentary
  • Seven additional tracks exclusive to the fan edition
  • Various behind the scenes videos
  • Expanded version of Dr. Z with fan determined ending
  • Full length album commentary that features dialog from all the band members as they listen to the record start to finish
  • Graphic art storyboards created specifically for the music videos included in the fan edition booklet
  • Original Artwork & Packaging exclusive to the fan edition

To further conceptualize their plan, the band has released a video explaining, with some satire, the details of their campaign along with a sneak peek of a brand new track called Kings of the Shadow World and a visual display of the many creative perks they’re offering to contributors. Visit the official campaign site for full details on the endeavor and its perks.

For more than a decade, CHIMAIRA has been imposing its gravity on the metal community by continually touring the globe and selling more than a million albums worldwide. Their brand of heavy music has evolved and transcended both itself and the trends while maintaining its persistent, bludgeoning force. In 2013, CHIMAIRA continues to direct the masses and define a dark future with their new album, Crown of Phantoms.

Frontman Mark Hunter comments on the band’s forward progression:

“When I started this band I had a desire to make extremely heavy, eclectic metal. Nothing has changed in that regard. I wanted to merge all the styles I loved into a hybrid of sounds. Having the chance to reinvent the group gave me the opportunity to work with unbelievable players and take the essence of Chimaira to uncharted territory. Assembling the right team was essential to creating what I feel is some of the craziest and most passionate music I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of. The past defines us while the present refines us.”

CHIMAIRA: Mark Hunter (vocals), Emil Werstler (guitar), Austin D’Amond (drums), Matt Szlachta (guitar), Jeremy Creamer (bass), Sean Zatorsky (keyboards)

Metal/Rock outfit THIS MISERY GARDEN are streaming their new record, Cornerstone in it’s entirety here.

Switzerland‘s THIS MISERY GARDEN capture the dual nature of their home country on their second full-length Cornerstone. The face of THIS MISERY GARDEN is melancholy that reminds of early KATATONIA and speaks to isolation and despair. That darkness is wrapped in tight, measured, melodic hard rock reminiscient of meta-rock bands a la TOOL. Produced and mixed by Drop (SYBREED), and mastered by Jens Bogren (KATATONIA, OPETH, PARADISE LOST) in the prestigious Fascination Street Studio.

In the past 6 weeks, the band has premiered music videos for two tracks off Cornerstone. The band recently released a video for Siamese Again (directed by Mathias Wälti), and Warning Zone, which was filmed entirely during the making of the new album.

Cornerstone is now available for purchase via the Season of Mist E-Shop.

THE CUSTODIAN Sign With Lasers Edge Records

THE CUSTODIAN is the UK’s newest and most exciting progressive rock band. Formed in late 2012, the band is already primed to release their debut offering Necessary Wasted Time June 18 via The Lasers Edge.

The band is lead by British musician Richard Thomson, better known as the vocalist of progressive metal group Xerath. The project was initially started in a bedroom in Warwickshire and has now, after several years of lying dormant due to other commitments, become a fully fledged band ready to take the prog rock world by storm.

Thomson, commented on the band’s signing to The Lasers Edge:

“We are extremely proud to be joining The Lasers Edge family. Not only is their roster exceptional but working with Ken and the team has been a superb experience for us. They take huge pride in what they do and more importantly the enthusiasm they have for the development of their bands is fantastic. We look forward to making some great music with them and bringing it out on the road as soon as possible!”

Label head Ken Golden explained how the signing of THE CUSTODIAN came about:

“An unexpected e-mail from a mysterious band named THE CUSTODIAN caught my attention. I started to listen to their debut album Necessary Wasted Time… and I kept listening… and listening. In short I became addicted. Rich Thomson and crew are creating the type of forward thinking music that helps define the fabric of The Laser’s Edge. I’m very excited to present THE CUSTODIAN to a worldwide audience.”

The band takes influence not only from prog rock, but anything and everything else that fits. Expect lots of beautiful acoustic passages, warm synth, tasteful leads, complex drumming and great production.

The album was recorded by the band in their home studio, mixed by Danish producer Jacob Hansen and mastered by Bob Katz. The artwork was created by British artist Colin Marks of Rainsong design.

THE CUSTODIAN:
Richard Thomson: Drums, Vocals, Synth
Michael Pitman: Bass, Vocals
Owain Williams: Lead Guitar
Nariman Poushin: Electro Acoustic Guitar

ANTROPOMORPHIA Add Second Guitar Player

Controversial necromantic Death Metallers ANTROPOMORPHIA added a second guitar player to their ranks.

Comments the band: “After an extended journey through the mazes of darkness a new fire has been lit to illuminate our ritual masses. We are proud to announce that we’ve welcomed a new member to our nekromantian horde : J. (full name Jos van den Brand) is an experienced guitar player who we know for many years and played in several prestigious Dutch (death) metal acts since the early ’90′s. With J in our presence the preparations have begun to open the portals and to set ablaze every stage that comes on our path/journey.”
Ave Luciferi

In other news, ANTROPOMORPHIA reacted to a letter their label Metal Blade Records received from the German BPJM (Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons) that included an indexing request for the band’s latest album Evangelivm Nekromantia. The letter claims the cover artwork of the album as well as the song Fleisch illustrate and address killings and violence in an autotelic way. Furthermore, they don’t seem to be too happy about the album title. A newspiece in German can be found HERE, a newspiece in Dutch HERE.

Comments the band: “We’ve made certain people nervous and uncomfortable with our music and lyrical content. In order to ‘protect’ the children, it’s quite possible Evangelivm Nekromantia will be banned and removed from German stores. Through their ridiculous and hypocrite way of thinking they are not letting people use their own intelligence or freedom of choice, this in an era where you turn on the news and see the world’s vile and repulsive excrements in full HD. These people are nothing more than a bunch of pitiful sheep! They might think this ban will be castigation but it will only strengthen us in our opposition towards these sad shallow people that crowd the world with their insignificant lives. To us, it’s the perfect representation of people without perception other than a retarded opinion about an artistic expression.”

ANTROPOMORPHIA just finished another video shooting, this time around for the song Debauchery In Putrefaction.

Fans can still watch the video for Psuchagogia now at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUbQ1QYnF04

THE CONTORTIONIST Part Ways With Lead Singer

(NEW YORK, NY) – THE CONTORTIONIST announced the departure of their frontman Jonathan Carpenter with his interim replacement in one fell swoop. Jonathan and his long-time girlfriend will be expecting their first child and Carpenter has made the decision to focus on his personal life. Mike Lessard of LAST CHANCE TO REASON will be taking on vocal duties while the band finds a permanent replacement.

THE CONTORTIONIST: Robby Baca (Guitar), Joey Baca (Percussion), Cameron Maynard (Guitar), Christopher Tilley (Bass Guitar)

Statements from each of the parties can be found below.

“It’s going to be a jarring change of pace for my life, not being on the road most of the year. Making songs with the band and then performing them in front of the best fans has been a once in a lifetime experience. I wouldn’t trade the perspective I’ve found in the past few years for anything. I got to meet so many amazing people and see a good chunk of the world. I absolutely intend to keep creating and playing music in the future, albeit in a more personal pursuit.”

“I will miss seeing everyone in the TC family very much. I wish the best to all of my band buds and everyone who supports live music and all this heavy banger music we’ve been making. I feel very excited for my future with the love of my life and our pups, and our little one on the way.”

“Music has always been one of my passions and that’s what drew me to this band in the first place. The music comes first, and I know that the talent of the band will rise above this member change and they will find a new arrangement that will blow your minds.” – Jonathan Carpenter

“We are sad to see Jon go, but at the same time remain fully supportive of his decision. We look forward to the process of finding a new vocalist and writing a new record.” – Robby Baca

“I’m happy to be helping my friends in The Contortionist for the next few months on tour as a temporary vocalist. I’ll be returning to my duties in Last Chance to Reason once these dates are finished in May. I look forward to seeing a bunch of new and familiar faces in the months to come, and to sharing new music from LCTR in the near future!” – Mike Lessard

THE CONTORTIONIST released Intrinsic earlier this year to much critical acclaim. Landing at number #107 on the Billboard Top 200, #15 on the Hard Music Chart and #3 on the New Artist Chart, it was the most successful first week the band has had to date. It’s also on sale now for $6.66 here!

The band recently finished a batch of successful dates with DEFTONES and will be appearing at this year’s NEW ENGLAND METAL & HARDCORE FESTIVAL next month. They’re hitting the road with label-mates, WITHIN THE RUINS next week and will be supporting AFTER THE BURIAL in the coming months.

“The band’s ability to balance chaos and solemnity have never been better. Breaking from soft, ethereal passages into grueling, mosh-ready grooves at the drop of a hat” – Altpress.com

“The Contortionist are, without a doubt, one of the most exciting young prog-metal bands on the scene today” – MetalSucks

MURMUR Signs To Season Of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of experimental black metal outfit MURMUR. The band is slated to release a forthcoming album as part of the Underground Activist Division.

Regarding the signing, the band said:

“We are extremely excited to be working with Season of Mist, and to have the opportunity to reach a wider audience,”

Guitarist Matthias Vogels adds,

“MURMUR started as a depressive black metal project with the debut Mainlining the Lugubrious, but after a pretty significant line-up change as well as a strong desire to satisfy my eclectic musical tastes, MURMUR has mutated into a fusion of black metal with progressive rock, zeuhl, and 1970′s style jazz fusion. We continue to grow and mutate our sound with every new piece. For a long time I thought we were trying to find our niche with all the experimentation, but it seems to me that our niche is not having one at all. MURMUR’s future goals are to continue writing and release another full-length within the next 1-2 years. Another major goal is to embark on US and European tours.”

Murmur

Originally formed in 2007 in Chicago, IL, MURMUR created ripples in the underground black metal scene with the release of their fierce and disturbing debut album in 2010. Relying on their melancholic and cold approach to nihilistic black metal, MURMUR embarked on an even stranger but no less frightening musical journey on a split EP with NACHTMYSTIUM the following year, which earned catapulted the band into international acclaim.
