Norwegian viking neo-folk group WARDRUNA announced they will return to Oslo, Norway for an appearance at Riksscenen on Friday, October 18.

Multi-intrumentalist Kvitrafn commented,

“It’s been a long time since Wardruna performed in Oslo, so we are very excited to be presenting the songs from our new album Yggdrasil for our fans in Oslo!”

The band, additionally featuring vocalists Gaahl (ex-Gorgoroth, God Seed) and Linda Fay Hella, will also be seen making their debut live performances in the US and the UK; appearing at the Stella Natura Festival in California’s Tahoe National Forest in September and at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London later in October.

Yggdrasil is the second release in the band’s “Runaljod” trilogy, which interprets the runes of the elder futhark. Much like the first album in the series, gap var Ginnunga, the recording took place at locations relevant to the different runes using outdoor locations along with old and historical instruments such as deer-hide frame drums, mouth harp, clove and hoof rattles from deer and goats, bone flutes, goat and cow horns, Hardanger fiddle and bowed lyres.

Yggdrasil, which has been praised for it’s “gut-wrenchingly authentic riffage,” (Alibi) is currently available digitally on iTunes or in jewel-case cd format from the Prosthetic webstore! A limited edition bundle pack featuring the album along with a custom designed bronze necklace and a 32-page digibook containing extra artwork, translated lyrics, and further reading on the Runes concept is also available for pre-order HERE.

Eddie handles these types of metals…

UPDATED TICKET PRICES: 30.00 ADV / 35.00 DOS

Doors: 7:00pm, Showtime: 8:00pm

Hosted by VH1 Classic: That Metal Show’s Eddie Trunk with Special Appearances by: Comedians Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson!

Featuring Performances from: TWISTED SISTER, ANVIL, RAVEN, THE RODS , TT QUICK & LORDS OF MERCY

New Jersey birthed heavy metal in the United States in the early 1980’s and it all started in a stall in the Route 18 Flea Market with Jonny Z and Marsha Z, where they sold rare records and Imported vinyl, picture discs and rock rags from around the world. This tiny little record shop soon became infamous for being the only place stateside where you could find the heaviest and hardest music from the farthest reaches and your own backyard.

Rock N Roll Heaven became the Metal mecca and anyone interested in this new underground wave of music known as “Heavy Metal” needed to pilgrimage to Rock N Roll Heaven at the flea market the only place to buy pins, patches, demos, and more it was the hub for news to find out what was happening anywhere in Metal. The shop owners began throwing concerts in local skate rinks and clubs, because no one else would put together a metal line-up.

Rock N Roll Heaven became a second home, only home for many, for one historical group the original Fans of Metal – aptly named The Old Bridge Metal Militia, a group of working class, hell raising teens from blue collar Old Bridge, NJ.

These were the most loyal group of fans any band has ever had – Metallica, Slayer, Raven, and many more young fledgling soon to be metal titans made their way into the hearts, homes and refrigerators of the OBMM before anyone even knew they existed and it was the unity of Rock N Roll Heaven and the OBMM that birthed Megaforce records and essentially Thrash as we know it today.

Megaforce went on to put out Metallica’s first 2 albums and made way for Testament, Overkill and paved the way for CraZed Management the Zazula’s management firm that nurtured Anthrax for 13 years and Ministry in the height of their fame plus many, many more.

After many years, OBMM & the Zazula’s are teaming up once again. Holding this fundraiser concert for the victims of Superstorm Sandy, Metal is now giving back to the community.

ED TRUNK (THAT METAL SHOW) will perform Master of Ceremonies duties with special guest hosts and an all-star jam to be announced.  With a now confirmed line-up of ANVIL, RAVEN, THE RODS and LORDS OF MERCY this evening is poised for a metal pounders delight.

ROCK N’ ROLL HEAVEN and OLD BRIDGE METAL MILITIA ask all attendees to bring canned goods or non-perishable food items for a food drive which will benefit local area soup kitchens and shelters.to thrash metal.

This is an event to benefit the victims of Superstorm Sandy, which wreaked havoc on the Jersey Shore and on the lives of its residents. Superstorm Sandy has left dozens dead and thousands homeless – making it the worst storm in the region’s history. This is a 100% non-profit event.

Grinding Dissent is a track from RAMMING SPEED’s Kurt Ballou-tracked Prosthetic debut, Doomed To Destroy, Destined To Die, due out June 25 on CD, LP, cassette and digital download.

The band commented on the track as follows:

Grinding Dissent is largely about America’s facade of righteousness and freedom. A government that is ‘for the people’ may or may not have originally been the goal, but in this day and age, it’s obvious that protest and free speech aren’t welcome. Our police departments have military-grade weapons turned on civilians to keep us quiet while politicians smile and shake hands behind closed doors. Musically. the song starts off with punishing D-beat and ends with Ferrari-sized, Piña Colada-chugging twin guitar riffage! Put this shit on 11, crack a beer and scream at the sun.”

Head to PROSTHETIC’s web store now to check out pre-order packages for Doomed To Destroy, Destined To Die, which include a mail-order exclusive clear haze/neon green vinyl variant along with an exclusive t-shirt or long-sleeved shirt featuring the album’s artwork, featured above. The band is living up to their reputation as “one of the hardest-working bands in heavy metal” (Noisecreep) on a tour with Goatwhore, 3 Inches of Blood and Revocation; they will continue to tour the US with Valient Thorr and Gypsyhawk throughout the rest of the summer.

Scion A/V, the creative enterprise of Scion devoted to the discovery, nurture, funding and distribution of compelling music and arts programming today releases a special two track, 15 minute EP featuring the scintillating sounds of Philadelphia sci-fi thrash metal band VEKTOR. Recorded this past January at The Glass House in Pomona, California as part of the Scion-presented Earache Records label showcase (that also featured Oceano, Bonded By Blood and White Wizzard), the free EP features VEKTOR performing the mind-obliterating tracks Cosmic Cortex and Tetrastructural Minds. The EP is available as a free download now at ScionAV.com.

“Earache has introduced metal fans to many great bands over the years,” comments Jeri Yoshizu, manager of sales promotion for Scion.

“Vektor is a band that creates metal for fans of metal. We’re happy to work with them on this release.”

VEKTOR formed in 2002 in Tempe, Arizona and quickly established a name for itself by embracing heavy metal’s past while carving out an original niche; combining thrash with elements of black metal and progressive rock. The band’s labyrinthine songs question reality and existence while at the same time portraying the future as a dystopian wasteland destroyed by greed, power, corruption and control. Weird time signatures, banshee wails, eerie jazzy passages, over the top soloing and frontman David DiSanto’s banshee calls intertwine into cohesive, atom-smashing assaults that move from intricate progressive playing to breakneck thrashing in the blink of an eye. With vicious musicianship, complex composition and futuristic sci-fi themes, VEKTOR recalls the glory days of Voivod, Watchtower and Coroner as its herculean sound challenges the parameters of modern heavy metal.

VEKTOR EP tracklist:

1.) Cosmic Cortex (9:40)
2.) Tetrastructural Minds (5:27)

Earache Records was founded in 1987 by Digby “Dig” Pearson. The seminal UK label has launched the careers of many acts now widely considered pioneers of extreme metal including Napalm Death, Carcass, At The Gates, Morbid Angel, Cathedral, Bolt Thrower, Godflesh and Entombed and had a heavy hand in exposing underground music fans to the realms of death metal and grindcore music. Earache is currently celebrating more then two decades of bringing extreme music to the masses.

Pelagial, the long-awaited new maritime-themed studio endeavor from sound revolutionists THE OCEAN, is available in North America now.  Their deepest and most profound composition to date, Pelagial is a progressive musical journey written, recorded, mixed and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music. Immeasurably heavy both sonically and thematically, Pelagial submerges listeners, quite literally, through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic.

“Where the band was once steeped in sludgy noise/metalcore with orchestral interludes, they’ve become more luxurious, experimental and textural. Pelagial…further continues that shift, working on multi-tiered levels and drawing from DEP-inspired chaos, Opeth-like moods and Between The Buried And Me genre fiddling. It’s an album that strives to be all things at once without crossing into a ‘look-at-me’ mess.” - Decibel Magazine

The aquatic audio adventure begins at the surface of the ocean and plunges in synch with diminishing light and increasing pressure as one dives or sinks deeper into the ocean. Pelagial begins rather light and progressively gets heavier and slows as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level.

Mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Örebrö, Sweden, Pelagial will be released as a double CD, which includes a vocal and an instrumental version of the album and will make its way to North American shores today, April 30th, through Metal Blade Records.

Check out the special clip video of the record currently posted at Invisible Oranges at THIS LOCATION as well as a full stream of the instrumental version, courtesy of Spin MagazineHERE. Order your copy of Pelagial at: http://www.theoceancollective.com/pelagial.

In related news, THE OCEAN will return to North America as part of the 7th annual Summer Slaughter Tour, presented by Indie Merch Store, ESP and Guitar World. Set to run from July 19 through August 24, the band will appear alongside The Dillinger Escape Plan, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Norma Jean, Cattle Decapitation, Revocation, Aeon and more. Official tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The sixth album from German post-metal doombringers THE OCEAN is huge… In the course of the record, tender piano interludes get stomped on by Mastodon-shaped footprints, lush strings work next to bulldozing double-kick work, and, at the end, the submarine crashes at Melvins tempos” – Spin

Pelagial is brilliantly written, expertly executed and filled with the kind of songwriting most bands can only dream of” – Craveonline

Pelagial resonates so deeply because its sonic continuity is matched with shifting, unified composition. The album viscerally depicts the spectrum of submersion while highlighting the musicians’ versatility and cohesion. The band has never written more intriguing music, and THE OCEAN COLLECTIVE has never been a more apt name.” – MetalSucks

“a journey within itself” - Metal Insider

Pelagial may be the record that finally puts them ahead of their peers”  – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“Beyond impressive. It’s godly almost; perfectionism to the point that every minute flaw forces you to question whether it’s you or the album that’s to blame. It’s an album with a layered depth rarely found in modern music that never demands your exploration of those depths in order to appreciate the music.” – Axis of Metal
