GWAR Endorse Super Bowl Halftime Show Petition

After a week and over 35,000 signatures, Antarctic overlords GWAR finally have officially reacted to the petition started by Jeff Cantrell of Morehead, Kentucky on Change.org to have GWAR play the Super Bowl Halftime Show.  The petition can be signed at Change.org/GWARBOWL.

“It has long been the joy of GWAR to submit the human race to any number of hideous tortures, and I can’t think of anything more horrible than you having to watch acts like The Black-Eyed Peas and Bruno Mars perform. So the temptation to ignore this is great! But then you start thinking about all of the people that who have never experienced GWAR before, and will be forced to do so if we do get the gig, well, at that point my colossal mega-ego kicks in and I am all over it.”

After a long and wet fart, Oderus continued…

“I really don’t think we should be limited to playing the halftime show… I am offering GWAR as an actual team that could complete in the NFL. Think of the titanic struggle involved as the NFL submits their best players, hell, we could play against all the teams at once and still emerge victorious. For too long has the NFL ignored the obvious fact that the players should be naked, blind-folded and armed with battle axes, that land mines should litter the field and whalers should hurl harpoons randomly from the stands. GWAR is throwing our entire cosmic weight (and we are fairly hefty) behind this petition, and command all of our followers, their families, and indeed anybody who has ever existed to sign this fucking thing, and in fact for those who have already signed it to create multiple fake email addresses and sign it again!”

And now to top it all off, today GWAR is ready to bring everyone a little holiday cheer with a select number of shows this December. That’s right it’s Christmas Time with Santa Oderus.  These three shows are set for December 27 in New York at Irving Plaza, December 28 in New Haven, CT at Toad’s Place and finally a show in Richmond, VA on December 29 at The National.  Tickets for all three shows go on sale this Friday.

In support of Battle Maximus, GWAR will be heading out this fall on the “Madness at the Core of Time” tour. The tour, which features a completely brand-new show full of slavering creatures and deserving victims, is set to kick off October 2 in Columbus, Ohio and runs through November 17 in Washington, DC. GWAR shall be joined by deathcore heavyweights and label-mates Whitechapel, Richmond, VA thrashers Iron Reagan (featuring Municipal Waste singer Tony Foresta) and A Band of Orcs (who are actually a band of Orcs).

The title track from Battle Maximus is streaming HERE.

CANNIBAL CORPSE Announces 25th Anniversary Shows

Cannibal Corpse will be wrapping up their 25th anniversary celebrations for 2013 with a pair of shows in Florida, which has served as the band’s base of operations since relocating to Tampa from Buffalo, NY in 1994. The shows are scheduled for November 29 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL at the Culture Room and November 30 in Tampa, FL at the Brass Mug. Tickets will be on sale this Friday at ticketmaster.com for the Culture Room and TBA for the Brass Mug.

Founding member and bassist Alex Webster comments:

“We are very excited to be doing these shows in Florida this November. We formed the band in the first week of December back in 1988 so these shows will be happening almost exactly 25 years after our formation. It will be great to celebrate our band’s anniversary in the state that helped put death metal on the map. Also, we are very happy to be able play Ft. Lauderdale to make up for the show we missed there in June. And I think fans in both cities will be happy when they see the ticket price for these shows!”

The most recent picture disc to be added is “Kill,” and is available for pre-order at indiemerch.com/metalbladerecords.

Earlier this year, it was announced that CANNIBAL CORPSE was selected for induction in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2013. MONSTER MAGNET New Song, Announce Tour with ROYAL THUNDER, ZODIAC

MONSTER MAGNET will be releasing their new album Last Patrol October 15 via Napalm Records. Dave Wyndorf and Phil Caivano produced Last Patrol, while Evil Joe Barresi mixed the album with additional production duties handled by Matt Hyde. The artwork was created by John Sumrow with consultation coming from Chris Ryall and designs by Ryan Clark for Invisible Creatures Inc. The album will be available as a Limited Edition Digipak which contains two bonus tracks, standard CD, 2LP and digital format. The album is available for pre-order on Amazon.

Today MONSTER MAGNET has teamed up with Crave Online for an exclusive premiere of a new track from Last Patrol.  Get a first listen to the song “Mindless Ones” HERE.

In support of Last Patrol, MONSTER MAGNETwill be embarking on a full-blown North American Tour!  Although the band has toured Europe relentlessly over the past decade, this is MONSTER MAGNET‘s first full North American tour in over 10 years!  The band is eager to hit the road in the states for the first time in what seems like forever. Prepare to hear MONSTER MAGNET classics and new cuts from Last Patrol for the first time live! Support will come from Royal Thunder and Zodiac. The tour is scheduled to kick off November 14 in Grand Rapids, MI and will run through December 14 in New York, NY.

Frontman and MONSTER MAGNET mastermind Dave Wyndorf checked in with his thoughts about Last Patrol:

Last Patrol is a return to our roots in terms of vibe and recording style. It’s full-on psychedelic space-rock with a 60’s garage feel, recorded almost exclusively with vintage guitars, amps and effects in our hometown of Red Bank, NJ. The songs are a kind of Space-Noir, tales of cosmic revenge, peaking libidos, alienation and epic strangeness. It’s a weird trip through the back alleys of a dark, retro-future, which not by coincidence very much resembles my own life. (laughs) The lyrics aren’t fantasy really, rather a recounting of my musings on, observations of and general emotional reaction to my life and environment during a 1 week writing period in February of 2013. But I tend to use the vernacular and imagery of science fiction and surrealism to express myself and that’s where these lyrics get trippy. There’s also our cover version of Donovan’s “Three Kingfishers” which I thought fit the mood of the album.”

Last Patrol was produced by Phil Caivano and myself with an effort to bring a home grown feel to the whole affair. We had been doing smaller projects out of Phil’s “Studio 13″ recording space and I really felt comfortable there so it was the natural choice on where to record the next full-scale Monster Magnet album. Phil and I grew up together and have a shared love of some very particular vintage music and styles. And everybody in the band played their asses off on this one.”

GWAR Battle Maximus Available Today

The day has finally arrived. Your lords and masters GWAR have unleashed their 13th and most devastating album to date Battle Maximus. The album can be ordered from Metal Blade Records HEREAmazon and iTunes.

In celebration of the album’s release, GuitarWorld.com the online home of Guitar World Magazine, is hosting an exclusive stream of the instrumental title Track “Battle Maximus”. Check out the song HERE.

Tonight in Richmond, VA at Balliceaux there will be a Battle Maximus release party. The party starts at 8:00 PM and will feature appearances by Oderus Urungus and guitarist Pustulous Maximus. Battle Maximus will be blasting in its entirety, there will be free posters and fans can pick up their copy of the new album for $5.

Continuing their media onslaught, GWAR front thing Oderus Urungus appeared on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday to talk football, the new album and as the case with Oderus a whole lot more. The interview with Oderus, Dan Patrick and Jamey Jasta can be seen HERE.

GWAR will be heading out this fall on the “Madness at the Core of Time” tour. The tour, which features a completely brand-new show full of slavering creatures and deserving victims, is set to kick off October 2nd in Columbus, Ohio and runs through November 17th in Washington, DC. GWAR shall be joined by deathcore heavyweights and label-mates Whitechapel, Richmond, VA thrashers Iron Reagan (featuring Municipal Waste singer Tony Foresta) and A Band of Orcs (who are actually a band of Orcs).

Check out a stream of the song “Bloodbath” HERE.

GWAR’s Battle Maximus features twelve brand new tracks that not only honor their departed ally, but tells the story of GWAR’s latest struggle against what may be their greatest enemy yet…the insidious “Mr. Perfect”, who has travelled through time itself to steal the power of GWAR–the power of immortality, and use this power to mutate the human race into his twisted vision of what the “perfect” human should be. Once again GWAR finds themselves as the only thing standing between the human race and the latest super-powered shithead bent on the destruction of GWAR and the enslavement of their worshippers.

Most GWAR fans know the “Battle Maximus” was the sonic war of fratricide waged by the Maximus clan against themselves in order to choose a successor worthy to follow in Flattus’ clawprints, and was recorded as a song on the new album. Every GWAR fan knows that the awesome Pustulus Maximus triumphed in this struggle. But what most don’t know was the stellar line-up of additional guitarists that contributed solos to this blistering instrumental track. These included Lamb of God’s Mark Duane Morton (who played under the pseudonym “Tyrone Die Tuefel”), Ol Drake from Evile (Twatticus Maximus), and Todd Evans of Mobile Death Camp (also an ex-GWAR member, who for many years played Beefcake the Mighty and contributed to this work under the name Skookum Maximus).

But the biggest outside contribution came from Zach Blair of Rise Against (who had played the character of Flattus before Cory Smoot, and took to this project under the name “Splattus Maximus”. Zach flew into Richmond to GWAR’s “Slave Pit Studios” several times, did much of the writing and arrangement on the record, and finally recorded tons of completely shredding guitar.

Said Zach, “It was so great to re-connect with this family of mine and be reminded of what a great, hard working institution GWAR really is. This organization defines the term “DIY”. If they want to see something or use something that just doesn’t exist, they make it! It’s inspiring to be around and in the ten years since my tenure with them I’d forgotten what a force it is to be reckoned with. I’m so proud of them and I’m so proud of this record.. This record is many things to me a musical send-off and tribute to the late, great Cory Smoot (in the manner of which he would have liked it!) and an extension of my own contribution to this amazing cultural, artistic and musical statement. I’m forever proud to say “I PLAYED IN GWAR!!”

“Most know of BLS for their ball in a meat grinder, pounding Metal, Zakk has always been more than a one dimensional musician” Classic Rock Revisted

“The two audio discs of music are a must in any Black Label Society fanatic’s collection” LOUDWIRE

An “Unblackened” bundle is also available for pre-order. The first 200 per-orders via the eOne store will receive a CD booklet signed by Zakk! The poster will be shipped in a rolled cardboard tube.

Unblackened,” the new live DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Video from Black Label Society will be released on September 24, 2013 by Eagle Rock Entertainment.

CLICK HERE TO PRE-ORDER THE SIGNED CD BOOKLET + POSTER

Additionally, Zakk’s label home, eOne Music, will release the audio version of the“Unblackened” DVD under the same name. The double disc release will have six additional tracks not found on the DVD, including two acoustic versions of “Queen Of Sorrow” and “Won’t Find It Here,” and covers of Leon Russell’s “Song For You” and “Aint No Sunshine When She’s Gone” by Bill Withers.

Filmed and recorded earlier this year in high definition at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia, “Unblackened” is Black Label Society presenting their songs in a whole new light, with greater use of acoustic instrumentation. Wylde plays both guitar and piano, with Nick Catanase on guitar, John DeServio on bass/vocals, Chad Szeliga on drums, Derek Sherinian on keyboards/piano, and Greg Locascio providing additional vocals.Since their early nineties inception, Black Label Society, formed and helmed by guitar legend Zakk Wylde, has been at the forefront of hard rock. Their penchant for hard riffs and blazing solos has resulted in a slew of hugely successful albums and a reputation as one of the most powerful live bands of their generation. Unblackened,” however, unveils another side of the band.

Their stripped-down approach highlights the subtler nuances of the songwriting, without losing any of the fire or intensity. Classic tracks like “Stillborn,” “The Blessed Hellride,” “In This River,” “Throwin’ It All Away,” “Losin’ Your Mind,” and many others are still punctuated by the stinging, searing solos that fans know and love, while showcasing the versatility of the band.

In addition to the concert, “Unblackened” is rich in bonus material. A new interview with Zakk, photo gallery, music video for “Losin’ Your Mind,” and a feature with Wylde visiting HM Prison Stocken in the U.K . are all included.

Zakk Wylde, who has been called one of the true guitar heroes of the past 20-plus years, served as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist for over 20 years in addition to his work with BLS. This collaboration led to a string of multi-platinum albums, including Osbourne’s biggest selling “No More Tears,”of which Wylde wrote all the music. Bestowed with such accolades as“Golden God” by Metal Hammer and the “Best Guitarist” Award fromRevolver Magazine, Wylde has proven time and time again that his songwriting, guitar prowess, and on-stage persona, along with his larger-than-life personality, have made him a force to be reckoned with. Black Label Society continues to enthrall fans around the globe, and “Unblackened” is another incredible piece in the band’s catalog.

OFFICIAL TOUR DATES

CLUTCH Postpone September Tour Dates

Maryland rockers CLUTCH have been forced to postpone the September tour dates of the “Earth Rocker” North American Tour. This is due to a health issue with singer Neil Fallon. Most of the shows will be rescheduled and dates are listed below. Support on the rescheduled shows will remain the same and come from The Sword and Crobot. Tickets that were already purchased for the dates in September will be honored for the rescheduled dates in January.  Unfortunately, one of the shows could not be rescheduled and has been cancelled. This is show is Vienna, WV on 9/21. The shows scheduled for South Burlington, VT on 9/24 and Long Island, NY on 9/27 will be rescheduled for a later date, please hold on to your tickets. Refunds for the West Virginia are available at point of purchase.

All dates on the October – November leg of the tour will go on as scheduled and planned. The Hampton Beach date, originally in September is now scheduled for October 25. Unfortunately, The Sword and Crobot will not be appearing on this new date in Hampton Beach, NH. News about support will be released in the coming weeks.

CLUTCH frontman Neil Fallon gave an update on his condition:

“Dear friends, this week I’ve learned that a childhood injury to the neck, a genetic predisposition for spinal disease, and 20 some years of head banging will exact a toll. I’ve been diagnosed with an ugly case of cervical spinal stenosis and two herniated discs.

In some instances these conditions can be treated non-surgically. This is not the case for me. I have been advised by several neurosurgeons that my spinal cord has already been damaged and that I risk further damage were I not to address the situation. For this reason, I’ve decided to take care of this ASAP. Believe me, re scheduling a tour turns my stomach, but I believe this is the wisest choice given the prognosis.

On Tuesday I will undergo surgery. The procedure will fuse three vertebrae together with a small titanium plate. I have faith that this surgery will go as well as it can, and that I will be back in the saddle for our October-November tour. On behalf of my spine, deepest apologies to those who had been looking forward to seeing CLUTCH over the next two weeks. We’ll make it up to you.”

Health and Happiness,

Neil

Earth Rocker was released March 19 via the band’s label Weathermaker Music. The album also came in at #1 on the Hard Music Chart and #3 on the Independent Album Chart.  The digital demand for this album continues to be very strong. In the week of release Earth Rocker shot to #4 on iTunes’ overall Top 100 album charts and was #1 in their rock chart.

Scion A/V Presents HIGH ON FIRE, KVELERTAK North American Fall Tour

Scion A/V presents HIGH ON FIRE‘s North American tour, which kicks off November 10 in Atlanta at The Masquerade and runs through mid-December, wrapping up in Los Angeles on December 12.

As part of the Scion A/V-sponsored tour, HIGH ON FIRE will release a new single titled “Slave The Hive” on October 16, marking the first new music from the California metal champions since the spring 2012 release of De Vermis Mysteriis. A limited edition 7-inch will be available at all tour dates with a video for the song to be released simultaneously.

Norwegian thrash-metal sextet Kvelertak, who have had one of 2013’s buzziest hard rock releases with the Kurt Ballou (Converge) produced album Meir, will open all dates. Doomriders (Nov. 10 to 23), Pack of Wolves (Nov. 27) and Windhand (Nov. 29 to Dec. 12) will be featured as the evening opener on different legs of the tour.

A Twitter (Twitter.com/ScionAV) sweepstakes will be ongoing throughout the tour, with two pairs being given away per show.

About HIGH ON FIRE:

Universally recognized as one of the most potent acts in music today, HIGH ON FIRE creates modern heavy metal that merges primal fury and aggression, hesher bombast and hall of fame heaviness.  Described as “a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume,” HIGH ON FIRE has rewritten the hard rock rule book since its formation in 1998, forging a style and sound that is both critically celebrated and absolutely unique.  The group features vocalist and cult guitar hero Matt Pike — also a founding member of the famed underground band SLEEP — along with powerhouse drummer Des Kensel and talented bassist Jeff Matz.  Pike was named as one of Rolling Stone‘s “New Guitar Gods” and is one of rock’s most charismatic figures. HIGH ON FIRE’s latest album De Vermis Mysteriis was released on April 3, 2012.
