JEREMY SAFFER 2-Day Photo Seminar

After a busy year culminating with shoots for MegadethCoheed and CambriaMotionless in WhiteThe Misfits, GWAR, Arsis and Epica, spreads in Alternative Press Magazine, Revolver Magazine and Outburn Magazine, as well as time well spent raising over $1,500 for late Suicide Silence singer Mitch Lucker’s daughter Kenadee with a legacy print series (all proceeds went to Kenadee’s education fund), JEREMY SAFFER can now announce the new dates for his first west coast music photography seminar in conjunction with SoundCheck Hollywood.

The seminar will take place on February 9 and 10 at Soundcheck Hollywood, located at 8872 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, CA.

The two-day seminar and workshop will focus on portrait work with musicians and will cover the entire process — from setting up the photo shoot, scouting locations, posing, different types of lighting and lighting equipment for different situations, shooting endorsements, promotional images, CD layouts, and magazine layouts, to walking attendees through the process of what to do post-shoot, invoicing, getting repeat business, and even how to price yourself. Many other business aspects of being a professional photographer within the music industry will be discussed.

The first day will be the official seminar day, where all of the above is taught in the morning, as well as a lightroom and photoshop post processing tutorial. In the afternoon of day one, attendees will complete mock-photo shoots experimenting with different types of lighting equipment, lighting set-ups, poses, etc. Jeremy has also expanded the music photography business section even more, and will also include private portfolio critique for attendees that specifically request it.

On the second day of the seminar, attendees will experience a hands-on photo shoot of special guest bands done first by Jeremy (as a real-life example), and next by themselves! Attendees will take over and complete a real photo shoot with the band in various locations.

Hopeful attendees must act now; there are only 10 tickets available to this seminar!

On February 9 at 6pm, SoundCheck Hollywood will re-open to the public for a brief meet and greet/signing where Jeremy will be signing his copies of his book Bring The Noise and will have exclusive limited edition prints available for purchase at a special one-time only price.

RECOVERY COUNCIL Album Release Party

Rebeca Qualls is a geek. The guitarist/vocalist and chief songwriter for New Jersey-based rock trio RECOVERY COUNCIL has a unique background which includes, of all things, scientific systems engineering. And she’s crazy enough to think that the two have something in common.

Writing music is, in many ways, the organic distillation of thoughts, feelings, and melodies into a cohesive end product, Qualls says.

Like building a system, creating music can take a few iterations to sharpen and guide that focus into a desired result.

This concept also parallels the evolution of RECOVERY COUNCIL from a lo-fi space rock solo project into a heavy rock trio with an undeniable sonic chemistry.

Qualls raucous guitar and honest vocals have been joined by the fluid, vibrant bass of Isidro Santos, and precision drumming of Jeff Trenholm. The third RECOVERY COUNCIL album Plan-Do-Check-Act consistently captures a moment in time where the three musicians with unique styles perfectly intersect as a cohesive whole. Although she cites some post-punk influences such as Husker Du, Sonic Youth, and Helmet, Qualls has deep rock and metal roots dating back to her childhood in the small college/steel town of Huntington, West Virginia.

A young classical pianist turned bassist, she found her bass gods and musical influences in the likes of Iron Maiden, early Metallica, and Rush. The latter also made a big impact on New Jersey native Trenholm in his formative years, in addition to The Cure and Pink Floyd.

Meanwhile, Dominican Republic-born Santos found his niche in early-mid 90s rock, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, and Toque Profundo from his home country.

The end result is a hurricane of melodic power whirling around the eye of Qualls smooth vocals and whipping into gusts of heavy 90s-style indie rock with traces of metal and a dash of progressive.

Plan-Do-Check-Act is RECOVERY COUNCIL’s first studio release as a band, and for Rebeca Qualls, it’s a place she’s always wanted to be.

While you can bring energy to recording and playing solo, it isn’t the same as having the raw, organic power of a band around you. Besides, I suck at drums.

In all seriousness, I’m really thankful to be surrounded by such talented musicians who are equally great friends. I’m continually amazed at the instant life they breathe into the music. I’ll bring in a song, and it will seem to congeal in no time because we get each other musically and we have a blast playing together. Then well goof around, tell bad jokes, talk about all kinds of stuff, and keep each other pretty entertained. We’re all kind of quirky in our own ways, but somehow I think I’ve earned the title of the biggest geek of the bunch.

Quirks aside for the moment, while Plan-Do-Check-Act reflects the process by which RECOVERY COUNCIL has evolved, it also has a personal meaning to Qualls. Her lyrics string together to loosely tell a story of perseverance through struggle and disillusionment, while balancing expectations based on real values as opposed to unattainable ideals.

The will to accomplish something against any odds comes with highs, lows, assessments and reassessments along the journey. It’s as much about self-discovery and experience as it is about determination and improvement, Qualls says.

Such is the journey for RECOVERY COUNCIL the musical system that has been engineered, focused, and refined over time. The only way to move is forward. And the geeks shall inherit the earth.

AVANTASIA Recording Update From Tobi

On you will find the first audio samples, plus a view into the recording studios of AVANTASIA’s upcoming record The Mystery Of Time, which will be out in March 2013.

Tobi comments the 2-minute trailer with even more informations:

“Hey friends, as you know I am currently working on a new Avantasia album. It’s a lot of work, but I am so proud of what we are creating right now – it’s amazing stuff.

I’ll reveal some secrets: Of course, Michael Kiske is on board again! I bet you expected this, you can hear him loud and clear, and he is still the number one vocalist in that range – unbelievable!

But, what is really new: For the first time in the history of Avantasia, we’re working with a real symphonic orchestra: The German Film Orchestra Babelsberg! You may remember it, they have worked with Rammstein, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain, and also with Edguy on the Hellfire Club album.

It’s an enchanting fairytale we are working on, so we really have no choice but to finally have a real orchestra – after all it’s an epic Rock-, or probably Metal Opera!

If you click on the clip below, you can check out the orchestra recordings and also, you’ll hear a little sample, a rough mix of what’s to come in March 2013: THE MYSTERY OF TIME! Enjoy… and Merry Christmas!” – Tobi
