ANSELMO, WARBEAST Release Split, Tour Starts Tonight

Heavy metal legend PHILIP ANSELMO and Texas thrashers WARBEAST are pleased to announce today’s release of their new split album, entitled War of the Gargantuas. The split, released via Housecore Records, includes two songs from each artist. This album serves as the first release of any solo work by PHILIP ANSELMO during the span of his nearly 30-year legacy. Also, the two WARBEAST tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his amicable departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on bass.

See what the press is saying about War of the Gargantuas:

“Veterans of the scene, WARBEAST don’t simply rely on the ’80s template. Rather, they blow it up and rebuild it into an even more vicious and vital monster… This is everything ANSELMO fans and metal fans have been hoping for and so much more. As with all of his projects, you’ve got to hear it to believe it.” –

“The combination of PHILIP ANSELMO and WARBEAST make War Of The Gargantuas a vicious, brutal onslaught of metal that creates the ultimate teaser for both bands.”-

“…ANSELMO’s solo contributions to an upcoming split with WARBEAST, War of the Gargantuas, so delight me: they sound just, like, completely fucking fucknuts… It sounds as though ANSELMO is about to release the aural equivalent of a broken glass bath.” –

In addition to this week’s release of War of the GargantuasDOWN and WARBEAST kick off The Weed & Speed Tour: West Coast Throwdown in the Year of XIII in Houston, TX tonight at Warehouse Live!

The tour will make its way through several states, coming to a close on February 1 in Chattanooga, TN at Track 29.

On the road since 2008, spreading its music to the masses, Chariots of the Gods has become known for blistering solos, gripping melodies, rioting vocals and drums that just won’t quit because, after all, that’s what it’s all about.

Having played with bands such as Misfits, Voivod, Despised Icon, Kataklysm, Blind Witness, Misery Index, Martyr, Fuck the Facts, Blackguard, Neuraxis, The Agonist, Reanimator and Insurrection and released a debut EP, Reverence, in 2010, Chariots of the Gods is now ready to unveil its latest masterpiece – Tides of War.

Produced by musical legend Glen Robinson (Queensryche, Gwar, Annihilator), the band’s debut full-length is set to storm the metal scene until there is nothing left, except Pure. Heavy. Fuckin’. Metal.

Season Of Mist Sign KEN MODE, Tour, Album & More

Season Of Mist is proud to announce the signing of metallic post-hardcore outfit KEN MODE. The Winnipeg, MB, Canada based trio (Jesse Matthewson – guitars/vocals, Shane Matthewson – drums, Andrew Lacour – bass/vocals) recently completed recording their new album Entrench with acclaimed engineer Matt Bayles (MASTODON, ISIS, PEARL JAM, THE SWORD). The album will be released on CD and digitally on March 19, 2013 (March 15 in Europe) with the vinyl edition to follow shortly thereafter.

Showcasing powerful noise rock influenced by AmRep‘s finest (MELVINS, JESUS LIZARD, HELMET), and fortified by an unhealthy dose of modern hardcore intensity (CONVERGE, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, EVERY TIME I DIE), Entrench further asserts the band’s stance against a stagnant take on rock, metal, and hardcore.

The band issued the following statement:

“The only logical way to follow up on the success of our previous album “Venerable”, was to put our noses to the grindstone and top that record in every way possible. With ‘Entrench’, we are convinced we have accomplished this. ‘Entrench’ is our most collaborative effort, and the most creative and sonically diverse album of our entire career. ‘Entrench’ sees us expand in both our handling of dynamics and general song and album craftsmanship; utilizing piano, keyboards, and strings to build on the classic power trio format. For this album, we have also enlisted guest vocal contributions from Dave Verellen (NARROWS, ex-BOTCH) and former DEADGUY/KISS IT GOODBYE vocalist Tim Singer. Both of them add another layer of icing to the metallic-hardcore-noise-rock-whatever-core cake we’ve baked.”

KEN MODE was recently awarded a Canadian Juno Award – Canada’s version of the Grammy- in the inaugural Heavy Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year category, on the back of their critically acclaimed album, Venerable. Other nominees included DEVIN TOWNSEND and ANVIL.

Regarding the award, Jesse Matthewson commented,

“It’s nice that Canada’s finally waking up to appreciate some of the darker arts…It’s cool that hopefully we’ll start getting more recognition on a grander scale.”

KEN MODE developed a reputation as a devastating live band. They have cut their teeth by blanketing North America and Europe many times over touring alongside KYLESA, PELICAN, REVOCATION, A LIFE ONCE LOST, CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE, DAUGHTERS, THE ATLAS MOTH, DEAFHEAVEN, GAZA and many more. Additionally, the band has appeared as part of international festivals such as SXSW, Hellfest (France), CMJ and JUNOfest.

KEN MODE also announced a North American tour for March and April with TODAY IS THE DAY, BLACK TUSK, and FIGHT AMP. The full list of dates are on the TOUR PAGE here on

ULI JON ROTH 2013 Update

The following is a personal update from Uli Jon Roth regarding his plans for 2013.

Greetings to all of you! I hope you had a great New Year. Here is a condensed list of some of the events that are planned for the first half of this year.

2013 is going to be a very busy and intensely productive year ahead, it seems.

We will start off with a two-day Sky Academy in Los Angeles, at the Santa Monica Playhouse on January 21st and 22nd. This is a beautiful, intimate theatre, where we held one of the previous Sky Academies which we all have fond memories of. I’m looking forward to being there again!

The next day I will take part in Jason Becker‘s “Not Dead Yet” concert in San Francisco, together with my friends Steve Morse, Richie Kotzen, Gus G, and several other great players. Jason is an inspiration to all of us and I feel honored to be part of this worth-while cause.

Following that, I shall be attending the Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California and will do a signing event for the Sky Guitar Limited Edition at the DEAN booth.

At the end of January we are embarking on my extensive 40th Anniversary Tour of the US, which will take us all the way through February until the beginning of March. 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of my involvement with the SCORPIONS. The main theme of this tour will therefore be dedicated to performing my personal favorites from the five albums which I recorded with that great band.

I have chosen about 30 songs in all from that era as the basis of our repertoire, several of which have never even been performed live by either the Scorpions or myself. We will be rotating a selection of these songs on the tour, varying our sets on a nightly basis, because we cannot possibly play all of them in one go.

We will, of course, also play some ELECTRIC SUN and SKY OF AVALON music, but the main theme of the performance will be dedicated to the early SCORPIONS era.

Every show will be recorded for a live album, which will feature only songs from my time with the SCORPIONS. This will result in a double CD, which will be mixed in 5.1 surround. The release will also contain a DVD and a documentary, including personal behind-the-scenes Super-8 footage, which I shot to document our tours from 1973-1978.

As far as live albums go, I am intending to record 2 further ones in the following years:

One will be featuring my favorite ELECTRIC SUN material -and the next one will consist of SKY OF AVALON/ TRANSCENDENTAL SKY GUITAR music.

In order to do full justice to my selection of SCORPIONS songs we are bringing a large band with an exciting line-up. Due to the length of the tour, not all members were free to do the whole tour.

Therefore some of the positions will be filled by two musicians – each of them playing part of the tour.

The 40th Anniversary US-Tour line-up will be:

Uli Jon Roth, guitars, vocals

Henning Basse – lead vocals

Ali Clinton – guitars, vocals

Niklas Turmann – guitars, lead vocals

Ule W. Ritgen, Elliott Rubinson – bass

Jamie Little, Peter Holmes – drums

Paul Rahme, Corvin Bahn – keyboards, vocals

In addition to the concerts there are 14 introductory SKY ACADEMY SEMINARS to be held during the course of the tour! These are usually taking place at the venues of the shows, on the same days and prior to the concerts. Pre-booking is essential, though. The seminars are not only geared for musicians. Anyone who loves music can attend. Sky Academy is about much more than just guitar playing, but players are also very welcome to bring their guitars and practice amps. The teaching should be useful to players of all levels.

March, April and May will be dedicated to studio work and some shows in England.

I also have been invited to play at the Royal Albert Hall in London by Alfie Boe as a guest for his concerts in April. Aside from this, we are going to collaborate on a new release of “Bridge to Heaven” intended for the Sunflower Jam Cancer Charity.

In June we will play six concerts in South America, co-headlining with Michael Schenker. The dates will be posted very soon.

We are planning further European and UK dates for the second half of 2013 and a tour of Japan

I am also looking forward to my continued involvement in the Robert Johnson Award in Hamburg, Germany, which is a great platform for genuine young guitar talents. As a special appreciation of his talent, I have chosen one of last years’ participants, the 14-year old Merlin Lauert, to share the stage with us at our Wacken 2013 show.

And last, but not least: I have written an entire album’s worth of new material, which I am very excited about. As soon as time permits we will begin to record it.

Once again, many thanks to all of you and God bless!

Have a great 2013!

Uli Jon Roth

JOB FOR A COWBOY To Headline Bonecrusher Fest

American Extreme Metallers JOB FOR A COWBOY return to Europe in March to headline this year’s Bonecrusher Fest tour.

Comments the band:

“We are all excited to announce that we will be heading back over to Europe this spring to participate in the Bonecrusher Festival. After some long and hard contemplation (uhh huh huh huh), we decided it would be best to get back over to the lands of beer and honey to throw down with our friends in Beneath the Massacre and cruise around with some other cool bands and try and have a good time. It will be our first time headlining a proper tour overseas in just about 2 years, and we are ready to play some tunes, drink some brews and crush some snacks. Come get your bone crushed with a bunch of bearded dudes on high protein diets playing music way too fast!”

NIGHTFALL Release New Single

Greek symphonic metallers NIGHTFALL released the second single from their upcoming new album, CassiopeiaSurf over to Legacy magazine, Europe‘s biggest extreme metal magazine, at to check out Colonize Cultures.

NIGHTFALL comments on the song as follows:

“The wheel of human race is moving towards by instinct. Slowly like a ferocious heavy tank roaring in muddy terrain and bravely like an astronaut in his capsule traveling to no man land. The creation of new lanes to earthly havens for the countless of restless souls to follow enormously is a fascinating old story. The Colonization is an unstoppable process that soon will reach extraterrestrial lands. A new Culture is imperative for smooth transition to the new era.”

Cassiopeia will be released January 22 in North America.

They recorded the album in four different places, something the band is quite familiar with. Vocals and keys were recorded in Greece (Soundflakes studios & Cyberia) while the drums got hammered down in Germany in the Soundlodge studios. Guitars and bass were recorded in the U.S. in Nashville, Tennessee in the Boomcave studios.

More than on the previous album Astron Black & The Thirty Tyrants, in Cassiopeia the spirit of old school Heavy Metal larks in almost every riff, with Mercyful Fate‘s and King Diamond‘s guitar style having its top notch, always the NIGHTFALL way.

Unlike Astron Black, there are more fast tempos as well as grindy ones bringing memories back from the mid 90’s times of now cult release Athenian Echoes. The vocals remain very, very heavy and thanks to Soundflakes amazing gear and Jörg Uken’s super mixing skills fit great with the melodic leads, moreover creating a solid sound wall where vocalist Efthimis comfortably sits on and spreading his inner daemons out to the world!

Efthimis Karadimas – vocals
Evan Hensley – guitars
Constantine – guitars
Stathis Ridis – bass
Stathis Kassios – keys
Jörg Uken – drums

ANUBIS GATE Gets New Drummer, Same Name

Morten Gade Sørensen (of Pyramaze and Wuthering Heights) replaced Morten Sørensen in ANUBIS GATE.

After careful consideration and 5 albums behind the drums, Morten Sørensen felt it was time to get off the bandwagon to pursue other musical interests.

Here’s a statement from the band’s website regarding the change,

We would like to say that this is a peaceful parting of the ways and that we are still good friends. We are of course sad to see Morten Sørensen go but also excited to have another one of Denmark‘s very finest drummers to join the band.

It is with great pleasure that we can announce his replacement Morten Gade Sørensen, known for his excellent drumming in bands such as Pyramaze, Wuthering Heights and Lance King.

Pasted Graphic

Morten Gade Sørensen comments on joining ANUBIS GATE:

“I’ve been following ANUBIS GATE since they started and being a big fan of their universe it’s an honor for me to be asked to join. I’m looking forward to working on the bands new material”.

ANUBIS GATE is currently working on their sixth album, which will be out on Nightmare Records late 2013.

ANUBIS GATE is Henrik Fevre (vocals/bass), Michael Bodin (guitars), Kim Olesen (guitars/synths), Morten Gade Sørensen (Drums).
