“This song answers the question, ‘can you make something cute brutal?’ We just did this for fun. We have a recording studio, we had inspiration, so why not? Those dogs are the best. This is our tribute to them.” comments guitarist Josh “The J” Key.

BIO:

Most high school friends can’t even stand to look at each other once school’s out, but in the case of vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key, they decided to spend even more time together after graduation.

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, they joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist  Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, a band they’ve coined as humorcore. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Almost 100 percent do-it-yourself, Psychostick never strays from its signature sound, a combination of heavy music Chimaira, Machine Head and Hatebreed would be proud of and wit and humor that would make Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic holler with laughter.

With two full-length albums behind them – We Couldn’t Think of a Title and Sandwich – the band released their latest record, Space Vampires VS Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D in 2011, following it up with a tour with Mushroomhead to add to their total count of 21 nationwide tours that have hit 47 states.

About:

A five piece group based out of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, following in the footsteps of bands such as: Behemoth, Dissection, and Immortal, XUL have left the beaten path and set out to forge their own brand of Blackened Death Metal.

An energetic and interactive live performance – with crushing rhythms seamlessly coalescing into atmospheric passages, accompanied by punishing percussion waves and subtle vocal harmonies – expands upon the previously established essence of the sub-genre. With songs reminiscent of war-torn landscapes, destructive human nature and evil intent, XUL has captivated audiences and garnered positive reviews, and on June 16, 2012, released their first full length album, entitled “Malignance”.

Driven by determination and a diverse accumulation of musical comprehension, XUL has toured Western Canada, as well as proven themselves worthy to share the stage with bands such as: Obscura, Exhumed, Vreid, Kampfar, Woods of Ypres, Macabre, Withered, Cephalic Carnage, Archspire and 3 Inches of Blood. With a spring 2013 tour looming, XUL is determined to build on an impressive local following by infecting Western Canada with hopes of Canada in its entirety in the near future. XUL’s focus for winter 2012 is to meticulously craft new material for another release in 2013.

BIO:

No good could possibly come out of the frigid Northern lands of Alberta, you say? Well, sorry to tell you, there’s an exception to every rule. Enter smoldering power-thrash five-piece Edge of Attack.

Combining haunting vocals, shredding guitars, complex bass lines, furious drumming and choral and symphonic arrangements with surprising depth, Edge of Attack has not only taken the metal scene by storm, but also by surprise. Having been featured in Revolver magazine, you’d think the band has surely been around for years, but truth be told, they’ve accomplished all this while releasing no more than two singles.

Representing the changes that have taken place and the reinvention of Edge of Attack’s sound, the self-titled album, which was produced by guitarist/vocalist Jurekk Whipple himself and is soon to be released with Spread the Metal Records, is, simply put, a reawakening and rebirthing of power metal with thrash creeping its way into the picture.

NYC’s RESOLUTION15 Release New ‘Violin Metal’ Album

Svaha cover high res

(New York, NY) – RESOLUTION15 is well known in the local scene for being a unique and welcomed twist on heavy metal – primarily based on their usage of violins in the place of guitars in their blistering thrash, punk and hardcore-influenced music.

Additionally inspired by classical music and fueled by an interest in spreading an egalitarian message of global change, the band feels that the use of violins adds to their artistic message and offers listeners something a little different than the norm.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign designed to raise funds for its recording, the band’s new album Svaha saw its official release on January 15, 2013. Recording took place at Spin Studios and Nova Studios with Ryan Kelly and Stacy O’Dell as producers.

Svaha’ means ‘so be it’ in Sanskrit. The title is of dual significance to us,” states RESOLUTION15 electric violinist Earl Maneein.

“The first is in regards to the spirit of how we recorded the album. Yes, the album was certainly edited, but it was more or less recorded in a ‘so be it’ fashion with usually the second or third, and sometimes even the first complete take standing as the final cut. The second is in regards to our stance as a socially conscious band. The ideas we bring up lyrically deal with one’s own inner turmoil and how that relates to worldly experience and action. Svaha is the last word in the Heart Sutra, and it serves as a kind of ‘Amen’. So we would like the listener to feel like this is our sincere commentary on the world as it is through our eyes, and also encourage them to find their own awareness.”

In 2007, RESOLUTION15 released a self-titled debut and quickly became a fixture in the New York metal scene, performing at countless shows and drawing fans and local press in with their unique sound. The band released their last EP, titled Satyagrahain April 2010 with Corey Unger (guitarist of New England metalcore band Blood Has Been Shed) as producer.

RESOLUTION15 is Earl Maneein on 7 string electric violin, Kenny Grohowski on drums, Mike Bendykowski on bass, and Nick Serr on vocals.

“…[the violins] bring a constant barrage of heavy riffs that would give most guitar-driven bands a run for their money in the brutal department, and when combined with a touch of technicality from the rest of the band, RESOLUTION15 bring something truly riveting to the table. They’re the kind of band that instantly turns the heads of the old, jaded metalheads hanging back at the bar… what… is…. this?… wow!” – MetalSucks.net
