A super introduction to NETTLECARRIER from our friends at Valkyrian
After releasing their self titled album in September of 2012, NettleCarrier have grown a small following in Europe and are the epitome of traditional black metal. I got the chance to interview the band via e-mail in which they discuss their influences on their music, how the band was formed, and how they enjoy hiking in the Norwegian mountains.
How did you come up with the name NettleCarrier?
Our first drummer came up with the name so I guess you would have to ask him. The meaning being a spreader of death suits us and fits the music
How did NettleCarrier form?
Me and Mannevond formed the band in 2004 when I moved to Oslo. We had been talking about playing together for a long time and me moving just kick started the process. At that time I also played in Ljå, but after I left LJå and started Djevel…

PROSTHETIC RECORDS is proud to announce the signing of neo-fusion instrumental power trio NIACIN. The supergroup consists of legendary bass guitarist Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth), keyboardist John Novello (Chick Corea, Edgar Winter) and world-renowned drummer Dennis Chambers (Santana, Parliament/Funkadelic), will release their sixth studio album, Krush, this spring.
The moniker NIACIN – the common name of the vitamin B3 – refers to the integral musical role played by the Hammond B-3 organ in shaping the band’s sound, described by All Music Guide as “part acid jazz, part progressive rock, and part jazz-rock fusion.” Inspired by the likes of Return To Forever and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, the group released their debut album in 1996 on Stretch, the label of jazz legend Chick Corea (who later wrote and performed on a track on NIACIN’s second album). With each member already firmly established in their respective genres, the band set out to form a new sound combining their jazz and rock roots, mixed with inspiration from B-3 legends such as Blind Faith, Keith Emerson, Jon Lord (Deep Purple), and Ken Hensley (Uriah Heep). As the buzz spread, the group toured the world periodically over the following decade, during which they released four additional critically acclaimed albums featuring such notable guests as Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion) and Toto guitarist Steve Lukather.
For the last several years, the individual members of NIACIN have worked steadily on various other projects – Chambers, for example, continues to serve as the musical anchor for Carlos Santana’s ongoing Las Vegas residency — but in 2012, the group reconvened for the first time since 2006 to write and record Krush. More details on the release – the group’s first in eight years – will be announced shortly.
Following the success of the inaugural edition in 2012, Dungeon Works Productions and Evenko are proud to present En Route to Heavy MTL 2013 and the selected twenty bands that will be battling it out over the next five months to win one of two opening slots at this year’s 2013 HVY MTL.
Battle 2 of the BOTB will take place on Thursday, February 7 at Les Katacombes (1635 St-Laurent Blvd) with special guest judges GWAR‘s vocalist Dave Brockie best known as Oderus Urungus, along with Slaves on Dope vocalist and CHOM 97.7FM DJ Jason Rockman, plus award winning producer/mixer Glen Robinson (GWAR, Voivod, Grim Skunk) (more credits here), along with local music industry for the alternative metal night.

(Detroit, MI) – FiXT artist Blue Stahli has released Antisleep Vol. 03, an instrumental album of apocalyptic Electronic Rock and Ambient Noise geared for Film and TV, along with crafting a dark-pop mash-up of the album’s Atom Smasher with Fever Ray’s The Wolf, available for FREE download.
“Since the songs on Antisleep Vol. 03 are all instrumental, I had to satisfy my craving for doing vocals in some capacity. Fever Ray is one my favorite artists and the aim was to have this weird union be something to soundtrack whatever strange rituals you’re compelled to perform out in the woods (provided you still have an iPod handy). If you find your eyes rolling back into your head, your body shaking uncontrollably, and you begin speaking in tongues when listening…that’s totally normal. Just let it happen.” – Blue Stahli
Fans of Blue Stahli’s Antisleep series may also have heard the Blue Stahli’s track Takedown during last week’s episode of American Horror Story – Season 2, Episode 12: Continuum.

About Blue Stahli:
The sole member of Blue Stahli, Bret, comes from a background of fetish burlesque troupes, drag queen fronted punk bands and believes that he is visited in his dreams by the ghost of William S. Burroughs.
The music of Blue Stahli is not only meant to be aggressive, artistic, and full of piss n’ vinegar, but also vividly cinematic and wildly epic. Trailers and promos for films such as Expendables 2, Underworld: Awakening, Tron Legacy, and others all the way to TV shows like America’s Next Top Model, Big Bang Theory, and MTV’s The Challenge feature Blue Stahli to create an exciting musical backdrop. Video games like Dead Rising 2 and ads for Victoria’s Secret have also utilized the music of Blue Stahli to inject their productions with rawness and energy. Either that, or a family member was held for ransom. Bret has never been successfully prosecuted, so we may never know.
The self-titled debut album, released in March of 2011, is a double-barreled blast of anthemic songs that are just as focused on providing an emotional escape as they are to making you feel as though you could singlehandedly take on an entire army. Infectious vocal hooks ranging from sensual and emotive to screaming-bloody-murder serve as the foundation for stronger-than-steel songwriting while giant chainsaw guitar riffs threaten to burn cities to the ground in a blaze of hooky, distorted glory. Slick electronics and dramatic production provide a gripping cinematic atmosphere with more intrigue than a box full of Bond flicks. Live drums and tribal toms are pulverized with a ferocity typically reserved for guerilla warfare while sexy breakbeats cut through with a precision hellbent on giving you and your hips more groove than is physically or legally allowed. These ten songs of fury and release will get stuck in your head and stay there. Do not defy them.
The pure visceral feeling of Blue Stahli is a getaway drive into oblivion, cutting a jet-black swath down midnight asphalt. Clawing, scratching and tearing through to catharsis with the hyperstylized jagged edge of revenge. Art is a weapon. Use it.
After facing a trying year, modern metal’s greatest band, LAMB OF GOD, is being honored by one of our generation’s greatest music publications. Arriving just a few short weeks after the band’s fourth Grammy nomination, February 1 will mark the release of Modern Drummer Magazine’s March 2013 issue—featuring none other than LAMB OF GOD drummer CHRIS ADLER on the front cover. This is Chris’ second cover appearance with Modern Drummer Magazine.
In the exclusive Modern Drummer Magazine interview, CHRIS ADLER takes readers through his recent experiences and explains how mental toughness has kept him positive in his professional and personal life. Check your local magazine stand or bookstore for a copy!
CHRIS ADLER is heading out to Prague within the coming days to support his band mate and brother in music, Randy Blythe, during his trial. When he returns, Chris will announce his involvement in an upcoming drumming project. He will also put the finishing touches on his third book, The Making of Ashes of the Wake, coming soon.
In other news, CHRIS ADLER recently announced his exclusive North American endorsement and distribution deal with VRUK Corporation, specifically in conjunction with the CHRIS ADLER Signature VRUK DrumMaster Heel Plate—a vital tool for drummers looking to increase endurance and speed that CHRIS ADLER himself is distributing exclusively throughout North America.
