About Wacken:

Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) is a summer open air heavy metal music festival. It takes place annually in the small town of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. With 80,000 festival visitors, and including personnel a total of roughly 86,000 attendees in 2011,[2] it attracts all kinds of metal music fans, such as fans of black metal, death metal, power metal, thrash metal, gothic metal, folk metal, and even metalcore, nu metal and hard rock from around the world.

The festival was first held in 1990 as a small event for local German bands. By 1998 the event had become the major festival on the European metal calendar and has included over 70 bands from all over Europe, North America and Australia. W:O:A is usually held at the beginning of August and lasts three days, during which the festival-goers camp on several large camping grounds surrounding the actual festival area. The 70 or more bands perform across four separate stages over the course of the event.

Since 2002, the Wacken Firefighters, the local volunteer fire department band, opens the festival.

The 2009 edition set a sales record when it sold out its 70,000 tickets by December 30, 2008, just 200 days prior to the festival. However, the 2012 edition broke this record; when it sold out on November 29, 2011, 8 months before the opening of the festival with 75,000 tickets sold. The W:O:A 2012 took place with 137 bands, performing on seven stages.

FEED HER TO THE SHARKS Release New Lyric Video, Australian Dates

Up-and-coming Australian metalcore band FEED HER TO THE SHARKS have been blazing the underground trail for some time, attracting fans across the globe with their pristine technical sound and engaging live performances. Originally discovered in 2012 by Darkest Hour guitarist Mike Schleibaum whilst already having a Fredrik Nordstrom-produced full-length album tacked to their name, this gifted five-piece is ready to take things above and beyond in 2013 with a new tour coming this spring and new album, Savage Seas, set for release this summer.
FEED HER TO THE SHARKS revealed a brand new lyric video for their track Memory of You, cut from the band’s upcoming album Savage Seas. The lyric video is available for viewing now here. Fans can purchase Memory of You now via iTunes at this link.

FEED HER TO THE SHARKS recently announced they’ll be supporting technical metal titans Born of Osiris on a tour of Australia in May. Additional support will come from Upon a Burning Body and A Breach of Silence. With this tour under their belts, FEED HER TO THE SHARKS will add to an already stellar list of international acts that they’ve had the opportunity to perform with, such as Suicide Silence, August Burns Red, Asking Alexandria and more. Dates for the upcoming tour are still under wraps, but stay alert for updates coming soon.

“Memory of You is a perfect example of the type of metal we embody. A storm is coming, so prepare yourself for blood-pumping adrenaline, bone crushing brutality and beautiful melody,” states FEED HER TO THE SHARKS vocalist Andrew Van der Zalm.

“Join the feeding frenzy and sink your teeth into this track today! Australia, get set for the discovery tour with Born of Osiris and Upon a Burning Body. It’s gonna be awesome.”

“We recently played with FHTTS on a last minute show addition to our Human Romance Australian tour. Immediately, a few of the guys and I were impressed with FHTTS’ raw power and total precision,”  – Darkest Hour guitarist and co-manager Mike Schleibaum.

“It was like watching a band who had been around for years destroy the stage. The sound, the vibe, it was all so pure and perfect. After the show we were pleased to find out they were some of the nicest down to earth dudes around. I knew I had to share their record with our long time manager and good friend Mike Mowery. The rest is history writing itself. When I was young, Australia seemed so far away, an imaginary place that only AC/DC lived. Nowadays it all seems so close. I’m happy to help break these dudes out of Australia, onto the world stage and hopefully to a town near you soon.”

FEED HER TO THE SHARKS have been working at a frenzied pace since forming in Melbourne, Victoria in February, 2009. The band recorded their debut album, The Beauty Of Falling, in their own studio in 2011. They worked in collaboration with world renowned metal producers Fredrik Nordstrom and Henrik Udd who handled the mixing of the debut album. The result: an independent release that has the sonic punch of a full-scale studio production, sure to dent stereos and see heads banging across the world. The Beauty Of Falling is an album that fearlessly expands on a beloved genre while at the same time providing a familiar entry point for heavy music fans.

FEED HER TO THE SHARKS is made of up several talented musicians, including vocalist and pianist Andrew Vanderzalm and guitarist/synth player Kim Choo, who are both classically trained pianists. On top of that, Choo produces music out of his home studio and has a degree in Audio Engineering. Full-time drummer Jan Benkwitz is recognized internationally for being an extremely talented player— you can view his YouTube channel with over 1.6 million views here: www.youtube.com/Blastphemer.

The band is currently endorsed by Schecter guitars and their Facebook fan count is about to surpass 20,000— all based on the band organically without label support.

THE OCEAN Unveil New Track

Pre-Orders + Studio Footage Available at metalblade.com/theocean

THE OCEAN is pleased to unveil Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish in Dreams from their forthcoming new studio offering, Pelagial. Possibly their deepest and most profoundly sophisticated work to date, Pelagial is a progressive musical journey written, recorded, mixed and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music. Mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Orebro, Sweden, Pelagial will be released as a double CD, which includes a vocal and an instrumental version of the album and is scheduled for release on April 26/29 (Europe) and April 30 (North America/world) through Metal Blade Records.

The concept of the album is made evident in its title, Pelagial. Listeners will be further submersed as they journey with the band, beginning at the surface of the ocean and plunging through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. In synch with diminishing light and increasing pressure as one dives or sinks deeper into the ocean, the album begins rather light and progressively gets heavier and slows as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level. What is amazing about Pelagial is that this is not some detached conceptual idea; this can actually be heard and felt while listening to the album.

The album’s fourth movement, Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish in Dreams, is currently streaming at metalblade.com/theocean, where you’ll also find studio footage and preorder info.

Additionally, preorders are currently available for a very special acrylic boxset edition of Pelagial, released through Pelagic Records. These heavy acrylic boxes are available in CD and vinyl formats and contain the CD digipak vs. four vinyl records respectively, as well as an extra DVD with the Pelagial movie by Craig Murray, all of which will be “buried” underneath five thick acrylic layers, colored in different hues of blue, each layer reflecting one of the five pelagial depth zones. The layers will be silk-screen printed with additional artwork by Martin Kvamme. 350 out of 500 copies of the limited vinyl boxsets and 450 out of 1000 CD boxsets have already been sold in the first five days of starting the preorder. Claim your copy now at: http://www.theoceancollective.com/pelagial.

Pelagial Track Listing:
1. Epipelagic
2. Mesopelagic: The Uncanny
3. Bathyalpelagic I: Impasses
4. Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish in Dreams
5. Bathyalpelagic III: Disequillibrated

PURSON Album Art Revealed, Pre-Orders Now Available

Led by enigmatic vocalist/guitarist Rosalie Cunningham, London, England‘s Purson are poised to erupt on the international underground with their new album, The Circle and the Blur Door. The lead single, Leaning on a Bear, is streaming now at metalblade.com/purson, where fans can also secure their pre-orders. European fans can order a limited 7″ single of Leaning on a Bear now at riseaboverecords.com. The Circle and the Blue Door is slated for release in North America on April 30.

Leaning on a Bear has been transformed into a brand new music video by director Chris Martin. The video, which is as trippy and psychedelic as the band, is streaming on Purson’s youtube channel now: youtube.com/PursonMusic.

Rosalie Cunningham elaborates on the video:

“We found this great place in Brixton, South London called Cafe Cairo that looks as though it has been transplanted there from the souk in Marrakesh. It was just perfect for a Purson video, so we invited some friends along, hung out, and played. Chris Martin shot and edited the video and my brother, William, treated the footage and added the trippy effects.”

About The Circle and the Blue Door:

The Circle And The Blue Door finds the missing link between Pentangle and Pentagram, by way of David Bowie’s dream reality and The Beatles’ feel for the perfect melody. And while it owes a debt to front woman Rosie Cunningham’s clear love of the late 60s and the early 70s, it is her poetic, evocative lyricism, tight song craft, sonorous vocal style and dedication to deep musicality that takes this wonderful album far beyond the waters of pastiche. Only an original mind could come up with a line like “ex dwellers of Spiderwood Farm, though they live here, they mean you no harm” – and set it against a mellotron solo.

Influences may be rooted in the classic period of late 60s/early 70s rock, but the lyrics reflect a young woman’s vision of the world. Rocking Horse is about retreating into the innocence of childhood, although in Rosie’s hands this takes on a sinister edge, with lines like: “in our own secret garden we play, I the spider and you the fly.” “It’s about remembering childhood in a hazy way,” she explains. As for the Bowie-esque Tragic Catastrophe, it describes her dreams of being a rock star and feeling like a girl out of time. “It starts with me as a kid, going through my dad’s 70s music magazines in the attic and being fascinated with these people, and wondering how on earth I could ever do guitar music today.”

She answers her own question with The Circle And The Blue Door, a fantastical rock classic with its own vision and purpose. And there are subtleties. Purson, named after the great god of Hell, may evoke the colour-saturated English countryside of early 70s Hammer Horror movies, but they do so with Beatles-esque sophistication, baroque charm and minor key reflection. The Circle And The Blue Door proves that those impossible dreams of the little girl in Tragic Catastrophe weren’t so impossible after all.

Rosalie Cunningham – Vocals, Lead Guitar
George Hudson – Guitars
Samuel Shove – Organ, Mellotron, Wurlitzer
Barnaby Maddick – Bass, BVs

Cuban Metal Bands Performing At SXSW

Three Cuban metal bands landed in Miami on Sunday and will travel to Austin, TX to play the first ever show by a Cuban rock or metal band on U.S. soil on Friday night at SXSW. The three bands, Escape, Ancestor and Agonizer, have been working for months with SXSW and an organization called Unblock the Rock to secure the proper visas and paperwork, as well as to raise enough money to make the trip. The organization’s goal is to use heavy metal to help bridge the cultural and political gap between the U.S. and Cuba, which are separated by less than 90 miles of open water but have had virtually no diplomatic ties for the last 50 years. Last month, Unblock the Rock began selling a compilation of songs called The Red Album, which includes tracks by artists including EyeHateGod, the Supersuckers and Black Tusk, to help pay for the legal and travel costs.

Escape Celebrates Their Arrival in Miami

Tracey Noelle Luz, who started Unblock the Rock after spending months in Cuba filming a documentary about Escape called They Will Be Heard, flew to Miami to reunite with the band on Sunday and document their arrival.

“This is really incredible,” she said. “I’m so amazed that we were able to make this happen. The band is walking around like they’re in a dream. It wouldn’t have been possible without all the donations and the help of the artists on the compilations, sponsors lawyers, congressmen and especially the people at SXSW.”

The battle is not quite yet over though, and Unblock the Rock is still soliciting donations and selling copies of the Red Album here (http://unblocktherock.com/donate/) to pay for the bands’ travel and expenses while in the U.S.

Once the three bands are in Austin, they will be participating in a panel discussion, “Red Menace: Cuba’s Heavy Metal Underground” at 3:30 PM on Friday, March 15 at the Convention Center in Room 11AB that will be moderated by David Peisner, who traveled to Cuba last year to write about the country’s extreme metal scene for Spin. (Read the story here: http://www.spin.com/articles/red-menace-inside-hidden-world-extreme-cuban-metal) Then, on Friday night the three bands will take the stage (Escape at 8pm, Ancestor at 11pm, Agonizer at 12am) at The Jr. (603 Red River St.) for the first ever Cuban metal show on American soil. They will share the stage with two metal bands from Brazil, Eminence and Attomica, as well as one from Mexico, Motor.

Do not miss this truly historic night of what must be the loudest, wildest cultural diplomacy of all time.

CONDITIONS Release New Lyric Video

(NEW YORK, NY) – With a brand new record only weeks away, CONDITIONS released a brand lyric video today highlighting the track Love Elusive.

The band had their fans send in snapshots of themselves portraying the lyrics to the song so they could be compiled into the lyric video you are seeing today.

CONDITIONS will release their newest full length Full Of War on March 26, 2013.

“With the markedly improved musicianship and songwriting found on Full Of War, the band should be headlining their own treks in the near future” – Alternative Press

Producers Brandon Paddock and Taylor Larsen (PERIPHERY), who’ve done various production and engineering work with THE USED, PAPA ROACH and BLACK VEIL BRIDES, among others have helped CONDITIONS craft an album that is leaps and bounds beyond their already impressive debut, Fluorescent Youth.

“We wholeheartedly believed in our last record,” insists Roundtree.

“But then after we lived with it, we realized it was maybe a little ‘safe’ for us. We took that very much to heart and decided to showcase the fact that we are not a play-it-safe band.”

1. Walking Seperate Ways
2. Skeleton
3. Open Eyes
4. Best Mistake
5. Love Elusive
6. Wonderful Lie
7. Everyday Is A New Life
8. The Descent Of Man
9. Long Division
10. What We Wait For
11. Not Giving Up…Not Yet

The band is out on the road right now with LET LIVE and will be joining SLEEPING WITH SIRENS on the TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT TOUR starting in mid-March.
