CATHEDRAL Stream New Single, Unveil Album Cover Art

Cathedral’s The Last Spire will be released in North America on April 30, 2013. Recorded at Orgone Studios in London, produced by Lee Dorrian and Garry Jennings with assistance, mixing by Jamie Gomez Arellano and art by Dave Patchett and Arik Roper, The Last Spire will stand as the band’s final effort. The first single to be released, Tower of Silence, can be heard now at metalblade.com/cathedral.

And lo, Lee Dorrian, mouthpiece of Cathedral for 23 years, doth solemnly intone the death rites of this mighty British metal Titan. Born in the dying days of Thatcher’s Britain, bonding over then-unfashionable, obscure names like Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Trouble and Dream Death, Cathedral’s sole ambition was to record a demo tape. In fact they revolutionized doom metal, first pushing their influences into new avenues of grinding extremity, then pioneering groovier forms of ’70s-indebted stoner doom.

Lee Dorrian adds:

“When the last mix was finally done, there was a massive sense of relief. I think this was partly due to the fact that it meant Cathedral could finally be put to rest but also because we felt we’d done something that we were all very pleased with. I feel comfortable leaving The Last Spire as our legacy.”

He continues,

“The funeral of Cathedral has been a long but gratifying process. Deciding to end the band wasn’t an easy decision to make but we knew deep down in our hearts that it was the right thing to do.”

Cathedral, released their first new recorded material in three years exclusively via Decibel Magazine‘s subscriber-only Decibel Flexi Series. The song, Vengeance of the Blind Dead, can be heard in the flexi included in the March issue. The track is also streaming on Decibel’s soundcloud page: soundcloud.com/decibelmagazine. Limited quantities of the issue with the flexi can be ordered on HERE.

Additionally, Cathedral will be the featured cover story for Decibel Magazine’s May issue, on newsstands in April. The feature will highlight the band’s storied career, as well as discuss their final studio release, The Last Spire.

The Last Spire was recorded by:
Lead Vocals – Lee Dorrian
Guitars – Garry Jennings
Bass – Scott Carlson
Drums – Brian Dixon
Hammond, Mellotron, Moog & Synths – David Moore
Guest Vocals on Cathedral Of The Damned – Chris Reifert
Backing Vocals – Rosalie Cunningham

MURMUR Signs To Season Of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of experimental black metal outfit MURMUR. The band is slated to release a forthcoming album as part of the Underground Activist Division.

Regarding the signing, the band said:

“We are extremely excited to be working with Season of Mist, and to have the opportunity to reach a wider audience,”

Guitarist Matthias Vogels adds,

“MURMUR started as a depressive black metal project with the debut Mainlining the Lugubrious, but after a pretty significant line-up change as well as a strong desire to satisfy my eclectic musical tastes, MURMUR has mutated into a fusion of black metal with progressive rock, zeuhl, and 1970’s style jazz fusion. We continue to grow and mutate our sound with every new piece. For a long time I thought we were trying to find our niche with all the experimentation, but it seems to me that our niche is not having one at all. MURMUR’s future goals are to continue writing and release another full-length within the next 1-2 years. Another major goal is to embark on US and European tours.”

Murmur

Originally formed in 2007 in Chicago, IL, MURMUR created ripples in the underground black metal scene with the release of their fierce and disturbing debut album in 2010. Relying on their melancholic and cold approach to nihilistic black metal, MURMUR embarked on an even stranger but no less frightening musical journey on a split EP with NACHTMYSTIUM the following year, which earned catapulted the band into international acclaim.

NEGATOR Joins Forces With PROSTHETIC RECORDS

PROSTHETIC RECORDS will release Gates to the Pantheon, the new album by German black/death quintet NEGATOR, in North America this spring. The album is scheduled to be released physically on May 14 and digitally on April 23 to coincide with its European release through Viva Hate Records. The band – whose blistering “panzer metal” has solidified their reputation as one of Germany’s top extreme metal acts – is currently offering a free download of the single Atonement In Blood HERE.

Gates to the Pantheon, the band’s first new music in over three years, is the follow-up to their highly acclaimed third album Panzer Metal. That release caught the attention of Swedish legends Dark Funeral, who subsequently enlisted NEGATOR vocalist Nachtgarm to front their band throughout 2011 and 2012. The new album – recorded at Hammer Studios in Hamburg with producer Eike Freese (Gamma Ray, Callejon, Dark Age) – features nine bloodthirsty tracks (listed below) of pounding blackened death, hailed by Job For A Cowboy guitarist Alan Glassman as “one of the angriest-sounding releases I’ve ever heard – a black metal masterpiece.”

New album due this spring; first single available for free download

TOMBSTONE HIGHWAY Release New Track

EnterLogo

Italy’s TOMBSTONE HIGHWAY just released a new track entitled, Old Blood streaming at this location.

Ruralizer, band’s Southern Rock-inspired Doom Metal album, will hit the shops on April 16 in North America. The release is out now in Europe.

Music of TOMBSTONE HIGHWAY is a classic blend of feisty Stoner/Southern Rock and Doom Metal, with catchy guitar solos and old-school heavy metal parts that may remind of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Corrosion Of Conformity, Pride and Glory, Down, Black Sabbath, or even ZZ Top. Apart from Hard Rock instruments, the band uses also a banjo and Hammond organs.

The album features guest appearances by electric guitar virtuoso Mario Percudani (HungryHeart, Mitch Malloy), Hammond maestro Paolo “Apollo” Negri (Wicked Minds, Black Widow, Hasselvander) and Razor SK (Forgotten Tomb).

Joe Hasselvander (ex-Pentagream/The Hounds Of Hasselvander) calls it, “Good old swamp infested blues metal!”

Ruralizer consists of 8 original songs and a cover of Mountain’s Mississippi Queen with a playing time of almost 50 minutes. The album will be available on Digipack CD and digital download. It was recorded, mixed and mastered at Elfo Studios by Daniele Mandelli.

The band commented:

“We’re very proud of how the album came out and we strongly believe it’s the perfect way to begin our legacy. People into heavy, ballsy southern-tinged Hard Rock should take note!”

Tracklist:
1. Old Blood
2. Acid Overlord
3. Graveyard Blues
4. Hellfire Rodeo
5. Ruralizer
6. Bite The Dust (and bleed)
7. At The Bitter End
