The History Channel’s newest series, VIKINGS, a historical fiction series based on the reign of Viking king Ragnar Lothbrok directed by Michael Hirst (Elizabeth, The Tudors), features music by Norwegian heritage folk act WARDRUNA in several episodes. The series, which premiered earlier in March, licensed several songs from both albums in the group’s in-progress Runaljod trilogy — 2009’s Gap Var Ginnuga and the upcoming album Yggdrasil, due out April 2 in North America. Make sure to tune in to VIKINGS on the History Channel on Sundays at 10/9C to hear WARDRUNA!
You can hear a sample of the first seven tracks from the upcoming album Yggdrasil along with insight and commentary from founding members’ Kvitrafn and Gaahl (God Seed, ex-Gorgoroth) in the two teaser videos below.
Packages include options to purchase a regular jewel case CD, as well as a limited edition digibook including a specially designed bronze necklace and a 32-page booklet with extra artwork, translated lyrics and additional text on the album’s Runes concept.
WARDRUNA will make their American live debut at the Stella Natura Festival this fall.
Tune in to THE WELDING ROOM to hear Yggdrasil on release day, Tuesday, April 2 from 3:00pm-7:00pm EST on WRDR-DB.
