XUL (pictured from left to right): Bill Ferguson – Vocals/Guitar, Wallace Huffman – Guitar, Marlow Deiter – Bass, Lowell Winters – Drums, Levi Meyers – Vocals

“We knew at some point during our time together that we would end up changing our logo. This is the third time our logo has changed, but this time, we believe it will be permanent. Bill Ferguson our guitarist created the other two using graph paper, so we decided to get the new logo done professionally. It coincides with our growth not only as musicians, but as a group, as we have spent a lot of time together over the past four years. Artist Chris Horst did an excellent job and we think it turned out awesome. It keeps the theme of our old logo but brings some new complementary elements together as well. This will make for a somewhat simple transition from old logo, to new. This is a new chapter in our musical journey and to document it, we felt this was the best decision, we hope everyone digs it!”  – vocalist Levi Meyers

If you’re a fan of Behemoth, Dissection and Immortal this is one album not to be missed as the band forges their brand of Blackened Death Metal.

A five piece group based out of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, following in the footsteps of bands such as: Behemoth, Dissection, and Immortal, XUL have left the beaten path and set out to forge their own brand of Blackened Death Metal.

An energetic and interactive live performance – with crushing rhythms seamlessly coalescing into atmospheric passages, accompanied by punishing percussion waves and subtle vocal harmonies – expands upon the previously established essence of the sub-genre. With songs reminiscent of war-torn landscapes, destructive human nature and evil intent, XUL has captivated audiences and garnered positive reviews, and on June 16, 2012, released their first full length album, entitled Malignance.

Driven by determination and a diverse accumulation of musical comprehension, XUL has toured Western Canada, as well as proven themselves worthy to share the stage with bands such as: Obscura, Exhumed, Vreid, Kampfar, Woods of Ypres, Macabre, Withered, Cephalic Carnage, Archspire and 3 Inches of Blood. With a spring 2013 tour looming, XUL is determined to build on an impressive local following by infecting Western Canada with hopes of Canada in its entirety in the near future. XUL’s focus for winter 2012 is to meticulously craft new material for another release in 2013.

Upon being assembled in 2003 by founding members Martin Samson and Stef Jomphe in Gatineau, Insurrection has been growing, modulating and mutating into a machine of an aural onslaught. Assaulting witnesses in both languages of French and English, Insurrection has blended its calculated technicality to create a signature mixture of merciless death metal that has emerged from the prominent Canadian scene.

Shortly after their 2009 debut release Prologue, giving true life to their monstrosity, the formation launched their second release 2010’s Fracture, a dark prophecy of unforgivable times and a brutal soundtrack to the fall of man. It pushed the limits with every outing, creating Insurrection to become more than the sum of its parts, but a merciless abomination.

Now the band is gearing up for their follow up Prototype to push yet another brutal assault and tour cities across Canada to convert the unwitting to their legion.

KING DIAMOND & VOLBEAT Release Free Download

Volbeat‘s latest album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, features a guest appearance from the legendary King Diamond.

Today, King Diamond and Volbeat are pleased to release the Jacob Hansen mastered version of this track, titled Room 24, as a FREE download gift to the fans.

Fans can download the track in full-quality HERE.

The track Room 24 features a massive coup for Volbeat with the guest appearance from King Diamond, the legendary front man of Danish metal pioneers Mercyful Fate, and one of Poulsen‘s musical idols.

Volbeat reveals, “I’m a huge fan of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. Having King on the record is a huge privilege. Normally, it’s not something he does. He wrote his own lines, and it is half my lyrics and half his. It’s a weird, scary story, and he’s the perfect person for it.”

Many veterans suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and among them are those whose lives have fallen apart and have become homeless as a result. Severe PTSD leaves these returning heroes on a downward spiral into their own personal hell. The Documentary:
Narrated by David Ellefson (MEGADETH), Co-produced by Aaron Lewis (STAIND), this documentary by Fran Strine takes on a tragic truth – that those men that put their lives on the line to defend our freedom have come home to a world plagued by PTSD and homelessness. 1 in 7 homeless adults are veterans and over ¼ of homeless veterans suffer from mental illness, physical illness and substance abuse at the same time.

These sad truths moved a concerned public to donate en masse to get the film made leading to a rousing KICKSTARTER success. The film raised 190% of its funding goal with the soundtrack raising 120% of its funding goal. The film is currently available on CHILL (chill.com/botm) and will see its official physical release along with its soundtrack on April 24.

“After engaging in conversations with these veterans living on the streets and hearing their stories, I knew this was the documentary I had to make and show that we, as citizens can make a difference,” – director/co-producer Fran Strine

The VA was approved $1.35 billion for the homeless in 2013 – a mere 0.035% of the $8.3 trillion US budget, says The White House Office of Management & Budget. Forbes adds that providing permanent housing for the chronic homeless would save taxpayers $3 billion.

The soundtrack for the film features members of many prominent rock bands. DC of EYE EMPIRE, a former soldier himself, said of his band’s involvement,

“I have always been sensitive to issues that face our troops Stateside & abroad. When our good friend Fran mentioned that he and Aaron were going to be making this film and that he would like for us to be involved with the music, we were very humbled.”

Vocalist, Pete Murray (previously of ULTRASPANK) called working with the likes of Ellefson and Mike Mushok of STAIND “an amazing experience.”

Murray continues, “Working with other musicians with different backgrounds and influences has been an incredible opportunity.”

In addition to his narration duties, MEGADETH’s David Ellefson contributed to the soundtrack.

“Lyrically these songs were inspired directly by the film and the people portrayed in it. In many ways, the Soundtrack continues the narrative of the film in music form. I am proud that the songs and people involved in making them took the subject matter to heart and used it as the springboard for our songwriting.” – David Ellefson

Composing score and soundtrack music was a labor of love for STAIND’s Mike Mushok. “In writing music to the film, I got to watch a scene and express how I feel about it by writing music to it,” explains Mushok.

“It was something that I really enjoyed doing and am happy with the way it ultimately turned out.”

SENSELESS BEAUTY To Release New Album On Standby Records

In a world and industry that is ever changing, there is something to be said for surviving and never giving up – and that is exactly what Iowa based, melodic post-hardcore outfit, SENSELESS BEAUTY has done since their formation in late 2005.

They have the mileage and the scars to prove it; they’re again preparing to hit the road to unleash their newest material. After years of honing their craft locally, regionally, and several nationwide tours with bands like; Burden of a Day (Rise), Remove the Veil (Facedown) and Brian “Head” Welch (formerly of Korn), the boys from Iowa are fully road tested and ready for more.

Fueled by a talented and motivated lineup and managed by Damon Moreno and The Inner Light Agency, SENSELESS BEAUTY is driven by their message of faith and hope. Their passion can be witnessed in their energetic and dominating live show.

“These guys mean business both on and off stage; it’s been nonstop push no matter the obstacles, we have not let off the gas and the reception simply continues to strengthen for the band and now having teamed with Neil and the Standby Records family, we just see this New Year as more fertile ground” – Damon Moreno

The band is ready to release their third full-length album and Standby Records debut with their upcoming release The Belonging Endeavor, which is set to drop April 16. The term, The Belonging Endeavor alludes to the struggle and journey of finding one’s place and meaning in life. One listen to this record and you will hear the unrelenting passion, honesty, and truth expressed through their writing.

It is safe to say that this is just the beginning of things to come from these guys and that 2013 has much in store for SENSELESS BEAUTY. With their current lineup, fire, and new label you can be assured that the band is showing no signs of slowing any time soon!

THE CUSTODIAN Sign With Lasers Edge Records

THE CUSTODIAN is the UK’s newest and most exciting progressive rock band. Formed in late 2012, the band is already primed to release their debut offering Necessary Wasted Time June 18 via The Lasers Edge.

The band is lead by British musician Richard Thomson, better known as the vocalist of progressive metal group Xerath. The project was initially started in a bedroom in Warwickshire and has now, after several years of lying dormant due to other commitments, become a fully fledged band ready to take the prog rock world by storm.

Thomson, commented on the band’s signing to The Lasers Edge:

“We are extremely proud to be joining The Lasers Edge family. Not only is their roster exceptional but working with Ken and the team has been a superb experience for us. They take huge pride in what they do and more importantly the enthusiasm they have for the development of their bands is fantastic. We look forward to making some great music with them and bringing it out on the road as soon as possible!”

Label head Ken Golden explained how the signing of THE CUSTODIAN came about:

“An unexpected e-mail from a mysterious band named THE CUSTODIAN caught my attention. I started to listen to their debut album Necessary Wasted Time… and I kept listening… and listening. In short I became addicted. Rich Thomson and crew are creating the type of forward thinking music that helps define the fabric of The Laser’s Edge. I’m very excited to present THE CUSTODIAN to a worldwide audience.”

The band takes influence not only from prog rock, but anything and everything else that fits. Expect lots of beautiful acoustic passages, warm synth, tasteful leads, complex drumming and great production.

The album was recorded by the band in their home studio, mixed by Danish producer Jacob Hansen and mastered by Bob Katz. The artwork was created by British artist Colin Marks of Rainsong design.
