Both releases were met by rave reviews from fans and critics alike and saw the band playing sets at infamous SXSW festival in Austin TX as well as tours across the US and dates in Europe. Recently, after months of searching and reviewing literally hundreds of applicants from around the world, PENTAGRAM announced the addition of their new guitarist Matt Goldborough. His debut with the “Ram Family,” rounded out by Bobby Liebling on vocals, Greg Turley on bass guitar and Sean Saley on drums, was on April 16, 2013 at the sold out show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY. If that gig wasn’t special enough, the band performed songs not heard live in over 40 years! Inspired by a demand from the fans, Liebling and company pulled out rare gems, including Be Forewarned. SIX FEET UNDER Recruit Another Former Member of BRAIN DRILL

SIX FEET UNDER parted ways with drummer Kevin Talley. However, the transition for the new drummer will be near-seemless, as he is a former band member of bassist Jeff Hughell. Marco Pitruzzella has officially joined the ranks of SIX FEET UNDER and will make his debut appearance with the band this Saturday in Memphis, TN at Scion Rock Fest! For info on the fest, including the full line-up, visit scionav.com.

Chris Barnes discusses the lineup change:

“I’m proud to announce a new addition to the ranks of Six Feet Under. Replacing drummer Kevin Talley is our new friend and cohort, Marco Pitruzzella (http://youtu.be/KVs_HBoxZds). Marco has worked with Jeff Hughell in their former band, Brain Drill, and is such an amazing talented and great guy. I’m very excited having him in the band and can’t wait to take the stage with Marco this Saturday in Memphis for Scion Rock Fest!”

“It was good working with Kevin Talley for the past couple of years, but we are very ready and extremely focused on moving the band forward with a new, more stable and permanent lineup for writing as well as touring. Be prepared to be shredded! See you all soon!”

SIX FEET UNDER’s latest album, Unborn, is available now. Fans can preview and order now at metalblade.com/sixfeetunder.

Six Feet Under and Brain Drill are featured artists on The Welding Room. Call (856) 393-2100, e-mail TheWeldingRoom@gmail.com or join the rockdefradio.com chat room to send your death threats/complaints.

BETTER LEFT UNSAID Premiere New Song Online

Modesto, CA‘s Better Left Unsaid released the new track Mr. Dark from their upcoming new album online via their Facebook page at http://on.fb.me/16tcrKA. Better Left Unsaid will release their new self-titled album on June 18 via Epochal Artists Records/Capital Music Group. The album was recorded ProView Studios in Riverbank, CA Studios with producer Adam Ruppel (Systematic).

“We are extremely bored with most of the current metal trends. There’s not enough songwriting in a lot of newer metal. It’s getting too technical in a lot of ways, it’s almost like watching a movie that is just a giant car chase with no plot,” said says guitarist Greg Fender.

“There are plenty of other metal records that are super clean and perfect, but they’re also sterile. We wanted things to be raw and dark, dirty and ugly for this record, because sometimes everything is not going to be alright.”

Better Left Unsaid are a complex melodic metal machine that utilizes heavy grooves and technical precision to craft a powerful versatile attack. One minute, lead vocalist Adam Raffety lets loose anguished growls that sound a caged animal, and the next he’s belting out some of the most infectious melodies you’ve ever heard. Their versatility is their greatest asset and the band have bottled up all the trials and tribulations over the past few years, and unleashed them onto their explosive new self-titled album, Better Left Unsaid. The band employ a steadfast “do it yourself” attitude with their brutal brand of metal, that has seen them crisscross the country over seven times playing shows with the likes of Killswitch Engage, Devildriver, 3 Inches Of Blood, Daath, Mushroomhead, (Hed)P.E. and Hatebreed.

Better Left Unsaid tracks She Needs Violence and Threat Of Truth are featured on The Welding Room.

About:

A five piece group based out of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, following in the footsteps of bands such as: Behemoth, Dissection, and Immortal, XUL have left the beaten path and set out to forge their own brand of Blackened Death Metal.

An energetic and interactive live performance – with crushing rhythms seamlessly coalescing into atmospheric passages, accompanied by punishing percussion waves and subtle vocal harmonies – expands upon the previously established essence of the sub-genre. With songs reminiscent of war-torn landscapes, destructive human nature and evil intent, XUL has captivated audiences and garnered positive reviews, and on June 16, 2012, released their first full length album, entitled Malignance.

Driven by determination and a diverse accumulation of musical comprehension, XUL has toured Western Canada, as well as proven themselves worthy to share the stage with bands such as: Obscura, Exhumed, Vreid, Kampfar, Woods of Ypres, Macabre, Withered, Cephalic Carnage, Archspire and 3 Inches of Blood. With a spring 2013 tour looming, XUL is determined to build on an impressive local following by infecting Western Canada with hopes of Canada in its entirety in the near future. XUL’s focus for winter 2012 is to meticulously craft new material for another release in 2013.

#10 of Top 20 Best Albums of 2012 for MetalMadeInCanda.ca

“Xul continue to offer a barrage after barrage of obliterating death metal… when the sheer fire power and dexterous performances that Xul serve up are so satisfying. Particularly when you consider that is the band’s debut album. Malignance is undeniably impressive.” – Powerplay Mag UK

“one of the most impressive debut’s I’ve heard in a very long time. Rarely are the similar artists mentioned in press kits an entirely accurate estimation of the soundscapes to be found within an album proper, but I find the examples of Behemoth and Dissection are quite fitting in this case, as the band excels at weaving the brutality of the former with the epic melodious propensity of the latter, not to mention the grandiosity inherent to both, into a rich and exciting tapestry of extremity” – Metal-Archives.com

“will appeal to fans of black/death metal. Hard-hitting and brutal, intensity does not let up until the very last song” – TheFrontRowReport.com

“Xul operate within the genre of blackened death metal, taking cues from blackened death metal giants like Behemoth, black metal legends like Immortal and Mayhem, as well as death metal demigods like Morbid Angel. They have taken all of these inspirations and combined them into their own artistically highly successful brand of blackened death metal, which features the brutality of death metal and the darkness and evil of black metal. Thus, you get and album the treats you to both the machine-gun bass drums, guttural vocals, and technically proficient playing associated with death metal and the tense harmonies, tremolo picking, and blazing blast beats associated with black metal… a huge artistic success and captures what I consider to be the best from both death metal and black metal” – Metal Music Archives

“a raging, rolling machine of Black-tinged Death Metal” – MetalObserver

“the band manages to make a sound that encompasses the Death Metal ‘old school’ with the current time style that combines technical, brutality and a very dark mood, as do Belphegor, Behemoth and Azarath” – Whiplash (Brazil)

“a stunning display of musicianship with its ultra-slick leads, hyper-speed percussion and incredible bass tone. Meyers’s fetid vocals salivating on the album’s rotting body ties the whole gruesome scene together. Xul wreak Vengeance on the ears of death metal fans, forcing their way in the cortex to fester and boil. This is one Malignance you’ll be dying to have” – Kingdom of Noise

“I love death metal that takes no prisoners” – Battl Helm

“The first track sets the pace for the whole album; hard hitting, ear splitting, skull crushing brutality. Battlestorm, indeed! Strong black influences shine through, especially in tracks like Porta Nocis, and Vengeance, while the instrumental Winter’s Reign leaves you spellbound. I have to admit to being really impressed with the amount of work these northern bastards have put into this, and I highly recommend it” – Canadian Black Metal

“a very great sounding heavy and brutal blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS  INCLUDE Battlestorm, Winter’s Reign and Tomb Of The Tyrants” – BringerofDeathZine

“The perfect combination of black and death metal, even with a particularly thrashy sounding guitar line in places on Mastication of Putrescent Empyrean Remains really comes together on this album” – BigMetalBastard

XUL - MALIGNANCE - ALBUM COVER

2. Mastication of Putrescent Empyrean Remains 05:14
3. Porta Noctis 05:08

You will also have the chance to win an opportunity to appear on stage with GWAR, and be ground into pulp in our gore-choked meat grinder.
For those of you who were just born, or simply didn’t give a shit (which is practically unthinkable!), the GWAR-B-Q is GWAR’s annual summer slaughter-fest presenting some of the heaviest, most awesome bands the metal and punk scenes has to offer. Stemming from it’s original roots as a semi-annual party, the event has grown every year in the scope of its majesty, and this year promises to be the most incredible one yet, with a lineup that includes such heavyweights as Richmond hometown heroes Municipal Waste, the legendary Corrosion of Conformity, the aural devastation of Pig Destroyer, and a very special reunion of the infamous X-Cops, who are coming out of hiding after a 17-year hiatus spent running meth labs in Ecuador (and a host of other naughty things).  All the original members shall reunite for the GWAR-B-Q to open for the mighty GWAR.

“Just because we have all of the original members doesn’t mean the band hasn’t been progressing,” said Cobb Knobbler, the X-Cops gay, satanic, Nazi bass player.

“I for one have been exploring the world of drug dog law enforcement…not handling the animals, but actually becoming one, through a series of extremely painful and expensive surgical procedures…the results of which I plan on unveiling at the actual GWAR-B-Q., giving me the legal right to ravage your genitals in search of cocaine!”

At this point the lineup for the days entertainment has been finalized, and two stages will barely be enough to present the enormous rock and rock spectacle that Slave Pit and Ring-Dog Rescue (http://ringdogrescue.org) shall present. The set times have yet to be finalized, but it should run something like this…

GWAR
Municipal Waste
Corrosion of Conformity
Pig Destroyer
Cannabis Corpse
Loincloth
X-Cops
Warbeast
Battlecross
Wilson
Mobile Death Camp
Volture
Kung-Fu Dykes

And if that’s not enough, there is plenty more filthy fun to overload your senses, leaving bloated, beastly, and completely broke. There will be more meat than ever, and boatloads of GWAR’s new GWAR-B-Q sauce to slather all over it, as well as GWAR’s new beer to wash it down your bottomless and gaping feed-hole. Just like last year, the affair will be held at the only venue capable of handling such a stupendous event — the legendary Hadad’s Water Park…check out the details at http://hadadslake.com

So get ready to experience the ultimate spectacle of music, meat and mayhem, as the undisputed Masters of Shock Rock prepare to unleash the greatest GWAR-B-Q in the history of this non-stop orgy of sun, fun, meat, murder, music, and straight up MAYHEM! What started years ago as a party for GWAR’s wretched Slaves has mutated into a bona fide festival that grows every year in the scope of its debauchery.  Come take part in this Barbaric Bacchanalia!

Damn the torpedoes and let slip the dogs of war! Hail GWAR, hail Flattus, and gather with the tribe of GWAR in Richmond, VA on or around Saturday August 17, 2013. But get there a day early for the “B4BQ” and then get ready for what is certain to go down in history as the greatest GWAR-B-Q yet!

AMON AMARTH Post Mini-Documentary

AMON AMARTH unveiled the first of their special three-part mini documentary titled Forging Mjölnir. Filmed and directed by Luke Daley (http://makezure.com), the up-close-and-personal clip — which includes stunning black and white nature footage and Norse artwork — celebrates the imminent release of the band’s ninth studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods.

Watch the six-and-a-half minute segment where vocalist Johan Hegg and bassist Ted Lundström elaborate on the mythological themes found within their latest epic via the band’s microsite at http://deceiver.amonamarth.com.

Not many bands can claim their ninth album as the most powerful, dynamic, and plainly aggressive of their career, but then AMON AMARTH consistently upped their game with every successive release. Having exploded onto the Swedish melodic death metal scene with 1998’s Once Sent from the Golden Hall, every album arrived bursting at the seams with power, melody and immersive storytelling centered around the richness of Norse mythology. Deceiver of the Gods captures the quintet at the peak of their powers.

“Every time we start working on new music we begin with the idea that we’re going to write the best album ever,” Hegg states.

“We knew we wanted a more aggressive, live feeling to this record but there’s no formula behind what we do. We just try to write something that takes us a step further than the last record, and is something that will excite us and our fans. Deceiver Of The Gods is the result.”

For proof, sample fourth track, Shape Shifter now streaming via Stereogum HERE.

Deceiver of the Gods was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). The follow-up to the band’s critically adored 2011 release, Surtur Risingoffers up ten maniacally heavy battle hymns rife with the band’s absorbing harmonies and Hegg’s commanding Viking roar. Deceiver of the Gods comes adorned with another outstanding Tom Thiel-created cover portraying a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. As an added bonus, Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, Hel.

For special Deceiver of the Gods pre-order packages as well as a stream of the title track, go to this location: http://www.metalblade.com/amonamarth. Deceiver of the Gods will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25, in Europe June 21/24 and Japan on June 26.
