STOLEN BABIES New Video, Live Dates

Experimental rock group STOLEN BABIES have been swiftly taking over the experimental and alternative rock and metal underground in the past few years. They are pleased to be teaming up with Vice’s Noisey channel to unveil their eerie, yet beautifully mesmerizing new music video for the track Second Sleep. The video is directed by Ilan Sharone, well-known video director and brother of Rani and Gil, with visual FX and animation by Meats Meier. The track is cut from the band’s most recent full-length release, entitled Naught. The album is available at your local music retailer and through iTunes, Amazon and all other standard digital retailers.

“We wanted the video to feel dream-like and echo the vibe of the song. Something is always a little off but not in a way you can put your finger on,” states vocalist Dominique Lenore Persi.

“When we’re underwater everything is more of a struggle, which adds to the feeling of being unable to control the situation. The video is directed by Ilan Sharone, with visual FX and animation by Meats Meier who has done vfx for Puscifer, TOOL and Roger Waters.”

Bonus: the new video can be seen as of now on TV’s in Hot Topic stores across the country! Keep an eye (and perhaps an ear) out while you shop!

STOLEN BABIES will be performing select dates this summer in their home state of California. On July 5, the band will be performing their first Bay Area show in some time at The New Parish in Oakland, CA. The show will also feature miRthkon, and Free Salamander Exhibit (featuring members of the now closed Sleepytime Gorilla Museum). The band will perform a month later in West Hollywood, CA at The Roxy as part of Hollywood’s annual Sunset Strip Music Festival. See below for both dates.

STOLEN BABIES Tour Dates:

7/5 – Oakland, CA @ The New Parish (W/ miRthkon and Free Salamander Exhibit)

8/3 – West Hollywood, CA @ The Roxy (Sunset Strip Music Festival)

The members of STOLEN BABIES have been busy this year!

It was recently announced by Maynard James Keenan’s (Tool, A Perfect Circle) side project, Puscifer, that the band’s new remix album features a track remixed by STOLEN BABIES bassist Rani Sharone. Better yet, the track features all of STOLEN BABIES performing on it! Check out a write-up of the new record here, with Rani Sharone credited. A funny side note: the dog on the cover of the new Puscifer remix album is owned by Rani, as well.

Rani, who is also recognized in many circles as a respected music composer, recently had a piece of his performed at the Disney Concert Hall by virtuoso violinist Hilary Hahn. The piece was personally-written for Hilary, and was selected as the runner up in her Encore contest out of hundreds of submissions from around the world.

World-renowned drummer Gil Sharone recently won the #2 Alternative Drummer spot in Modern Drummer Magazine’s fan polls. Also, Gil Sharone recently filmed a new video for one of his endorsement companies, DW Drums. As a featured guest artist, Gil takes a stroll through DW’s amazing showroom, Candyland 4, and plays every drumset in the room to show the wide range of drums they have. The video is coming soon, check out a screenshot below!

DEVILDRIVER Release Additional Album Info

DEVILDRIVER will be releasing their new studio album, Winter Kills in Japan on August 28 via Metal Blade Japan/Howling Bull Entertainment. The band recorded in Florida at Audio Hammer Studios and vocals in Los Angeles, CA at Dez’s home studio with Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, All That Remains) handling production duties.

Winter Kills set for August 28 release date in Japan

DEVILDRIVER frontman Dez FaFara comments;

“I am thrilled to be in business with Brian Slagel and his Metal Blade team in Japan. To be associated with a person and company as respected, successful, and passionate as they are compliment my work ethic and passion to a tee. Sometimes it’s about the company you keep and DevilDriver could not be in better company in Japan.

Hail Dez”

The artwork for Winter Kills features a photograph by Dean Karr with the layout handled by Ryan Clark/Invisible Creature.

DEVILDRIVER worked with Lewis previously on Beast and The Last Kind Words and producer Mark Lewis’s prolific leadership of the new school of metal has yet again helped DEVILDRIVER deliver another Epic heavy Metal record. This record melds what the band does best. In your face power as well as the California Groove sound the band pioneered.

“This is by far DEVILDRIVER’s most cohesive, powerful, groove laden record to date! We delivered our signature California Groove sound alongside a Raw and Biting guitar tone, mixed it with massive hooks, added in thunderous drums to rethink, and reshape another different sounding unique piece of Rock-N-Roll! Cutting our own path is something to be proud of. DEVILDRIVER has always and will forever be about thinking outside the box and delivering on something different from record to record, we cannot be assimilated into any scene or even genre of Metal and we will continue to do things our own way with a massive middle finger in the air to the status quo!”

Hail RockNRoll

Dez FaFara

DEVILDRIVER has always been a band on a three-pronged mission: Work hard, rock harder, and kick as many asses as possible in the process. The band tours forever and has since its beginnings. Their live performances and circle pits are as legendary as their music.

The band will be hitting the road worldwide in support of Winter Kills. Touring as always will be a focal point for the band. The US can expect to see them this fall and winter with Europe and the rest of the globe coming in 2014 and beyond.

MACHINE HEAD Announce New Bassist

It is with great pride and excitement that Machine Head announce Jared MacEachern as their new bass player.  Jared has already begun rehearsals for the upcoming Rockstar Mayhem U.S. summer festival tour and will soon relocate from North Carolina to Northern California to begin pre-production for Machine Head’s upcoming 8th studio release.

MacEachern auditioning for Machine Head

Some fans might remember MacEachern from 2007’s The Black Tyranny Tour, playing with his previous band Sanctity.  Machine Head, challenged to find a fill-in bass player for the North American tour after an injury sidelined their then-4-stringer, also found themselves in need of someone to sing harmony with singer/guitarist Robb Flynn.

Flynn remembers, “We had locked in Brandon Sigmund of local boys Hostility to play bass on that tour, but we soon realized we’d need someone to hit the high harmonies. Our A&R guy Monte Conner recommended Jared since he was already on the tour, and that ended up being a great call.  Jared flew out a few days before the tour and rehearsed with us and did great. What was most impressive about the whole thing was that he was doing double duty – opening for Machine Head with his band at the time Sanctity, and then later singing with us. He would stay sober until after our set, and often get in the van and drive all night. His seriousness and dedication was awesome to see and it stuck with us.”

Earlier this year, Machine Head conducted an extensive search for candidates through various channels, the most fruitful of which proved to be video submissions. Sifting through more than 400 videos, the band personally reviewed and evaluated everyone’s performances, including MacEachern, who made the short list without a second thought. image002

Lead guitarist Phil Demmel recalls, “There were dozens of amazing players, and it was interesting to watch each one take on our tunes. One of our biggest criteria for this gig was to be able to sing the high harmonies. That was our litmus test. And Jared passed with flying colors.”

After reviewing all of the submissions, the band narrowed down the 400+ candidates to a short list of 7, each of whom took a trip to Oakland to perform a handful of songs in person and spend the day hanging with the band.

Remembers Drummer Dave McClain, “Jared came in to the audition and just killed it!  Besides being able to nail the bass and vocal harmonies, he also had the vibe and personality to make it feel like we were a BAND again. It was a great feeling and we all knew he was the guy.”

MacEachern first picked up concert bass at 12 and around the same time, discovered metal.

Jared recalls, “I heard the song Unforgiven and really liked it. The next day my friend gave me Kill ‘Em All and it was over. I became completely enamored with all the metal bands of that time; Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Pantera, but when it came to bass, it was all about Cliff Burton, he was, and is my dude.”

Jared’s Audition Videos:

This Is The End

Halo

With a brief stint at the Brevard School for Music Performance, Jared consistently played bass for the past 22 years, most notably in Sanctity, where oddly enough, the band needed a guitar player.

“That was purely out of necessity” he explains, “I’d been a bass player, but that gig opened up and I gave it a shot on the 6-stringer.”

Beneath The Machine

After extensive global touring with Sanctity and the birth of his daughter in 2007, the band’s release from their label ignited Jared’s sense of responsibility and he quit the band to focus on her.  But music stayed a part of his life and he continued to jam locally throughout the south with death metal bands From A Dig and Telic, until he saw Machine Head were in need and thought he’d try out.

Frontman Robb Flynn reflects, “We really wanted a guy that was hungry for this, someone who could live and breathe this with us. Dave would joke around that we didn’t want to get someone too green that’d be like ‘oh my god, is this a dressing room?!’, but we also didn’t want someone who was too jaded by the whole thing and ‘been there done that’. We thought the perfect guy would be someone who’d paid some dues, who had done 9 or 10 crummy van tours, and wasn’t broken by that, but inspired to keep going and play music, and in many ways that was Jared. I mean hell, the guy’s only rode in a bus for two nights, one of which was with us! It brings a really cool level of appreciation to the table, and it shows where his heart’s at”

Jared enthuses, “I’m ready to get to work!  This tour is going to kick ass and the new tunes are heavy as shit! I’m SO looking forward to making good music with good dudes!”
