About:

Heavy music has long provided a sanctuary for restless creative spirits. As drummer and songwriting mainstay for US metal titans SlipknotJoey Jordison has earned himself a fearsome reputation as one of the most prolific and artistically driven figures in modern music. Now, after many years of side-projects and collaborations, he has formed a new band that boldly encapsulates his unique creative personality. A full-blooded and fully-formed sonic beast that brings Joey together with some of the most talented musicians in the rock world, Scar The Martyr are starting as they intend to continue: as an unstoppable force.

Pieced together by Jordison and his new comrades over the last couple of years, Scar The Martyr’s debut album is both a celebration of one man’s unique vision and a potent collision between diverse but effortlessly compatible musicians. Although Joey plays guitars, bass and drums on the record, the contributions of lead guitarists Jed Simon (ex-Strapping Young Lad) and Kris Norris (Darkest Hour), vocalist Henry Derek and keyboard scientist Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails) are not to be underestimated.

HIGH ON FIRE just released the first official live recordings of its career with the two volume set Spitting Fire Live, which has been hailed as “high-volume intensity” by the Austin Chronicle, “hot as the infernos” by Pitchfork and a “documentation of the band’s undiminished ferocity onstage” by the SF Weekly.

Recorded over a two evening NYC headlining stint at both NYC’s Bowery Ballroom and Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg last winter, Spitting Fire Live showcases HIGH ON FIRE at its incendiary best, containing songs from each of the band’s critically acclaimed studio albums including last year’s celebrated De Vermis Mysteriis.

 About HIGH ON FIRE:

Universally recognized as one of the most potent acts in music today, HIGH ON FIRE creates modern heavy metal that merges primal fury and aggression, hesher bombast and hall of fame heaviness.  Described as “a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume,” HIGH ON FIRE has rewritten the hard rock rule book since its formation in 1998, forging a style and sound that is both critically celebrated and absolutely unique. The group features vocalist and cult guitar hero Matt Pike — also a founding member of the famed underground band SLEEP — along with powerhouse drummer Des Kensel and talented bassist Jeff MatzPike was named as one of Rolling Stone‘s “New Guitar Gods” and is one of rock’s most charismatic figures. HIGH ON FIRE‘s latest album De Vermis Mysteriis was released on April 3, 2012.

HARSH TOKE to Release Debut LP

Psychedelic rockers HARSH TOKE explore sound and space through music. On the San Diego Acid Rock band‘s debut album Light Up and Live, loud, heavy guitars, swimming bass lines and smashing drums warp to full throttle, working together to launch the group’s “Haze Maze” of unapologetic psychedelic-blues into interstellar overdrive. Recorded by Brian Ellis (also of the prog-rock band ASTRA) and mastered by Carl Saff (Earthless, OFF!, Unsane), HARSH TOKE‘s Light Up and Live will be released on November 19 via Tee Pee.

Led by ripping pro skater and rip-roaring guitarist Justin “Figgy” FigueroaHARSH TOKE are equal parts atmospheric and anarchic, merging raging, blind fury musicianship with unprecedented white-knuckle volume abuse. Tense and surreal, HARSH TOKES‘ songs slowly build from hallucinatory haze into grand overtures of noise and feedback; a cosmic buffet of pounding, pummeling and punishing planes of sound. Heavy. Cosmic. Kinetic.
HARSH TOKE lay down sizzling grooves with every needle on the soundboard pinned to the red. If Blue Cheer could be called “Louder than God” in 1968, forty five years later, HARSH TOKE can easily be pegged as “Louder than Satan.” Run for your lives – into the din.
Tracklisting:
     1.) Rest in Prince (4:11)
2.) Weight of the Sun (14:28)
3.) Light Up and Live (9:46)
4.) Plug In to the Moon (10:08)
HARSH TOKE: Justin “Figgy” Figueroa (Guitar), Richie Belton (Bass), Austin “Buya” Ayub (Drums) and Gabe Messer (Keyboards).
Updated news and tour information available via ACTION! PR online (website / facebook / twitter)
“HARSH TOKE’s space-rock will take your mind on a cosmic journey through the rings of Saturn and back again.  They’ve transcended the plateau of time and space and their galactic forefathers from the ’70’s underground would be very proud to call them their own.  Inhale deep and take it down you sissy.” – FRONT

RIVERS OF NIHIL Stream New Song

Rivers of Nihil have unveiled the second track from their upcoming album, “The Conscious Seed of Light.” The brand new song, “Mechanical Trees,” is streaming exclusively at NoCleanSinging.com HERE.

Bassist Adam Biggs comments on the track:

“The lyrics paint a bleak picture of humanity’s future, wherein the environment has become so damaged that we are forced to rely on machines to create breathable oxygen for most living creatures. Eventually, this way of life becomes too much for Earth’s dwindling human population, so the powers that be lace the machines with hallucinogenic substances to ease the pain of death. While that seems bleak, this song is actually a lot of fun to play live. It contains some of the more difficult riffs on the record, while also maintaining a good deal of atmosphere.”

Rivers of Nihil, which also features vocalist Jake Dieffenbach, guitarists Jon Kunz and Brody Uttley, and drummer Ron Nelson, have added to their Fall touring schedule. In October, fans will be able to see Rivers of Nihil touring with Beneath the MassacreRings of Saturn, and Legion throughout the east coast. Confirmed dates can be seen below, as well as at facebook.com/riversofnihil.

The Conscious Seed of Light,” will be released on October 15th in North America and October 11/14 in Europe/UK via Metal Blade Records. The album was recorded in March of 2013 at Mana Recording Studios in Florida with famed metal producer/musician Erik Rutan.

Guitarist Brody Uttley said,

“Working with Erik was a true privilege. Coming from the DIY circuit and immediately recording with one of greatest death metal producers of all time pushed us all more than we ever could have expected, both as musicians and as people. We have grown tremendously as a band in all aspects because of our experience with Erik.”

Born from the ruins of their decaying hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania, Rivers of Nihil are on a relentless path of taking their music to the next level. Formed in 2009 the modern progressive death metal quintet’s music is as dark and heavy as the coal and iron their home city was built upon, taking influences from some of death metal’s heaviest, most abrasive hitters: Morbid Angel, Gojira, Spawn of Possession, and Decapitated, to name a few.

IN SOLITUDE Premiere New Single

Head over to the Deciblog to check out the new single “Pallid Hands” from Swedish classic heavy metal band, In Solitude. The band’s new album Sister is dropping in North America on 10/01 and will be available to fans digitally, on CD, and 180gram black vinyl. Fans can check out the first single and title track “Sister” at MetalBlade.com/InSolitude.

Fans can also pick up the upcoming issue of Decibel Magazine, November issue #109 – out October 3, which features In Solitude on the cover which was shot by internationally-renowned metal and rock photographer Ester Segarra in Sweden. If you aren’t already a subscriber you can check your local bookstore or order from Decibel directly at the following location.

“Sister” was recorded at Studio Cobra in Stockholm, Sweden during March 2013. The album was produced and mixed by Martin “Konie” Ehrencrona and stands as a logical next step above and beyond its predecessor, “The World. The Flesh. The Devil.” In Solitude’s strength resides in their ability to craft dark and oppressive atmospheres within the auditory realm of classic heavy metal. “Sister” compounds this trademark sound further, beginning with the acoustic intro, “He Comes,” and saturates the record in an aura of uniqueness; see: “Lavender” and the title track.

The album concludes with an 8-minute, driving, near trance-like opus that features guest guitarist Pelle Forsberg (Watain). Additionally, Jarboe of Swans fame can be heard on “Horses in the Ground.” Moods range from Mercyful Fate-esque guitar flavors, shadows of Black Sabbath, the heavy dissonance of Swans, to straightforward, earworm riffs. In any case, one thing can be said for certain: their delivery is as genuine as it is impressive.

North American fans will have an opportunity to see In Solitude live this Fall. The band will be supporting Watain on their “Wild Hunt” tour beginning on October 8th in New York City. The tour also features support from Tribulation. Dates can be found below, as well as on facebook.com/insolitudeofficial.
