ANCIENT VVISDOM Announce Tour

Austin-based heavy occult rock group ANCIENT VVISDOM just revealed plans for a upcoming U.S. headlining trek, the Pagan Summer Tour, which will also feature psychedelic rockers The Saint James Society with select appearances from fellow occult rockers Bloody Hammers. A trailer for the tour can be viewed below or shared via YouTubehttp://youtu.be/FVlDqZdUhrc

Watch the Video

Praised for its “churning, dark skeletal songs” while being compared to “the folky grunge of Alice in Chains” by the New York Times, ANCIENT VVISDOM’s sophomore release, Deathlike, captivated the media and fans alike. Mixed and mastered by engineer/co-producer Jason Buntz along with partner Jack Control (Jet, The Darkness), Deathlike was recorded utilizing primitive and unique percussion such as bones, bullets, machetes and railroad spikes to formulate a hauntingly archaic sound. The music video for the album’s title track can be viewed HERE.

RAMMING SPEED Stream New Track, Reveal Album Info

Grinding Dissent is a track from RAMMING SPEED’s Kurt Ballou-tracked Prosthetic debut, Doomed To Destroy, Destined To Die, due out June 25 on CD, LP, cassette and digital download.

The band commented on the track as follows:

Grinding Dissent is largely about America’s facade of righteousness and freedom. A government that is ‘for the people’ may or may not have originally been the goal, but in this day and age, it’s obvious that protest and free speech aren’t welcome. Our police departments have military-grade weapons turned on civilians to keep us quiet while politicians smile and shake hands behind closed doors. Musically. the song starts off with punishing D-beat and ends with Ferrari-sized, Piña Colada-chugging twin guitar riffage! Put this shit on 11, crack a beer and scream at the sun.”

Head to PROSTHETIC’s web store now to check out pre-order packages for Doomed To Destroy, Destined To Die, which include a mail-order exclusive clear haze/neon green vinyl variant along with an exclusive t-shirt or long-sleeved shirt featuring the album’s artwork, featured above. The band is living up to their reputation as “one of the hardest-working bands in heavy metal” (Noisecreep) on a tour with Goatwhore, 3 Inches of Blood and Revocation; they will continue to tour the US with Valient Thorr and Gypsyhawk throughout the rest of the summer.

VALIENT THORR To Release New Album, Tour Dates

Chapel Hill, North Carolina hard rock heavyweights VALIENT THORR will release their highly anticipated sixth studio album Our Own Masters on June 18 via Volcom Entertainment. Recorded at Ronnie Jone Sound Studios in Athens, GA and produced, engineered and mixed by Kyle Spence of experimental rockers Harvey Milk, Our Own Masters shines a bright light on VALIENT THORR’s singular sound, delivering twelve tracks of balls-to-the-wall rock that yearns to be played at full volume.

VALIENT THORR in the studio (photos: G. Copeland)

Formed in 2000, VALIENT THORR plays loud, fast heavy music – influenced by both metal and punk – that draws creatively from touchstones such as AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and the MC5 (Motörhead might also be a point of reference here, though more in spirit than in sound). The band has a stranglehold on amped-up hard rock and stripped-down heavy metal, barnstorming stages across the world with its catchy, ass-kicking riffs, unmatched energy, fist-pumping anthems and hyper-agitated live show, led by front man and ringleader Valient Himself, whose highly entertaining, heady lyrics (the singer was once a college professor) become a call to arms for the band’s legions of devoted fans – nicknamed the “Thorriors” – that assemble in chapters and track the band from show to show, town to town. VALIENT THORR is a group that averages between 200 and 250 live shows a year, be it on stage as beloved headliners exposing the world to developing new acts (see Royal Thunder, Red Fang) or criss-crossing the globe as special guests of peers such as Mastodon, Motörhead and Misfits.

Our Own Masters is a triumphant display of crescendo-ing riffs, rousing vocals and canyon-wide grooves and a record set to remind the world why VALIENT THORR’s high voltage
concoction of rock, metal and punk and formidable reputation proceeds them for a reason. The record’s wild, extraterrestrial cover artwork (shown above) is taken from a 1975 painting by John Aylward, father of VALIENT THORR drummer Jason Aylward.

Threshold of Pain Records Launch

(Boston, Massachusetts) – Nefarious Realm Productions officially launched their imprint vinyl label, Threshold of Pain Records. The specialty label makes it’s debut with four releases that have not yet seen a release on wax and with plans to release several more albums and splits later this year. The vinyl only label will be concentrating on releasing very limited edition, very high quality, and very special releases spanning genres. With releases from SEEMLESS, ABNORMALITY, EARTHRISE, and ORWELL slated for a May 21 release, Threshold of Pain Records takes its first step as a label.

Nefarious Realm boss, Threshold of Pain Records owner and megalomaniacal Masshole, Matt Darcy commented upon starting the label:

“I’ve been collecting limited vinyl copies for the past couple years now. With most music being obtained digitally, the feeling of owning a piece of music is dwindling. I remember flipping through a booklet and being able to smell the paper and ink while gazing upon photos and artwork. With this label, I’m bringing those feelings back, that sense of holding a piece of music that then becomes priceless to you. Which each release being the highest of quality, all will include something special with it’s respected release, never before seen photos, expanded artwork, etchings, and posters… These records will be more than a piece of wax, these records will be pristine keepsakes that will be priceless to the owners as well as trophies to the musicians who created the music.”

The first four releases include the 2004 SEEMLESS self titled, which was then re-released the following year through Equal Vision Records. The vinyl version will see the fan favorite Haze which was left off the 2005 re-issue. SEEMLESS, the group formed by ex-Shadows Fall/Unearth drummer Derek Kerswill, Killswitch Engage vocalist Jesse Leach, ex-Overcast/current Death Ray Vision guitarist Pete Cortese, and ex-Medium bassist Jeff Fultz made a splash coming out of the metalcore saturated as a heavy rock group with southern feel in the mid-2000’s before disbanding in 2009.

EARTHRISE is a sonic wall of post-metal drunken sludge hailing from Minneapolis, MN, released an audio onslaught that mimics the experience of being inebriated in outer space. Eras Lost is over 50 minutes of post-metal that meets experimental hardcore elements.

ORWELL is a continuously progressing metal band from all over the Midwest. Existing in various forms since 2005, the band recently saw their most successful and far-reaching release so far with 2011′s AVOHFASIH. which is an acronym for A View of Heaven From A Seat In Hell. This new album found the band exploring art as whole with their music, presentation, and their live show.

ABNORMALITY, formed in 2005, is an extreme metal band hailing from Massachusetts. Purveying a female fronted violent hybrid of the heaviest subgenres in metal, taking from a wide range of influences, ABNORMALITY mixes technicality and speed with devastating grooves delivering a brutal sonic experience that death metal fans cannot deny. Contaminating the Hive Mind, originally released in June of 2012 through Sevared Records unleashes eight tracks of pummeling death metal that will please all that will lend an ear.

ZOZOBRA Announce New Album Details

Brutal Panda Records
(Boston, MA) – ZOZOBRA have revealed the details behind their latest release Savage Masters, due out April 2 on LP/Digital via Brutal Panda Records.

The brainchild of Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Old Man Gloom), ZOZOBRA formed in 2006 and quickly released two crushing full-lengths of atmospheric sludge metal, Harmonic Tremors (2007) and Bird of Prey (2008). Now five years later, the band has re-emerged with Savage Masters, their most aggressive and straightforward release to date.  Bursting out the gate with a bold, determined purpose, Savage Masters is an unrelenting fury of post-hardcore ferocity and sludge-tinged amplifier crunch. This release, featuring long-time Cave In bandmates Adam McGrath (guitars) and J.R. Conners (drums), proves once and for all that ZOZOBRA are a veritable force to be reckoned with. Savage Masters was produced and recorded by Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Pelican) and contains stunning artwork by English alchemist Glyn Smyth (Unearthly Trance, Wolves in the Throne Room, Cough).

The track Black Holes is available for streaming here and a preview of the album art plus pre-order packages are available here with digital pre-orders available here.

Additionally, the band announced a co-headlining Northeast tour with label-mates KOWLOON WALLED CITY, set to begin on April 6 in Brooklyn, NY. Click on the TOUR DATES tab (above) to view list of live dates.www.brutalpandarecords.com

Primitive Blast received rave review since its release, being called “collision of ’70s headiness and ’80s hardcore angst” by the LA Weekly.
SPIN says THE SHRINE are “shit-kicking SoCal pool-skaters (that) bridge Black Flag and Sabbath via Cro-Mag hooks and high energy sludge” and the band was just spotlighted as part of the Converse x Decibel series, Talking Rock and Skateboarding, as they turn found space and hideous architecture into skate heaven.
Plus, check out legendary skater Mike Vallely “killing” Double Rock to Primitive Blast HERE.
THE SHRINE is Josh Landau (guitar/vocals), Courtland Murphy (bass) and Jeff Murray (drums).

“Although they draw from multiple genres, THE SHRINE defies the categories of metal or punk, thrash or doom, creating a sound uniquely their own, which they’ve christened “psychedelic violence.” One of the first to recognize and help foster their sound was none other than original Black Flag bass player and co-owner of SST Records, the legendary Chuck Dukowski… heavy, hilarious, fast and loud”ESPN

“THE SHRINE plays music that, by design, gets to the point. There’s no filler here, there’s no pretense and no buildup, it’s just pure hardcore intensity, rage and passion all to be taken with a grain of salt of course. This is punk rock for the new vinyl generation. It’s crossover thrash played through Orange amps. This is what you should be listening to this summer when you hop your neighbors fence, drain their pool and skate the shit out of that motherfucker”HEAVY PLANET
