|BEHEMOTH: Revolver Magazine Unveils Exclusive Excerpts From Forthcoming Biography
Next week, Metal Blade Records will unleash Behemoth: Devil’s Conquistadors. A definitive BEHEMOTH biography penned by Lukasz Dunaj, the stunning 490-page, hardcover tome takes an in-depth look at the history of the events that materially influenced the band, their music, their ultimate rise to the upper echelon of metal and becoming a household name in their native homeland of Poland. In addition to the author’s narrative, the book includes quotes and anecdotes from current and former BEHEMOTH members as well as interviews with Tomas Krajewski, Rob Darken, Graal, Havok, old photos of the band, flyers, lyric sheets and so much more. In the foreword by Krzysztof Azarewicz (Polish poet, writer, occultist and longtime lyric co-writer): “If, as a cultural anthropologist, I were to point to a single cosmic force which BEHEMOTH’s music expresses, I would name it not Satan but Dionysus. A deity that represents not only the intoxicating influence of cosmic energies and earthly benefits, but also their benevolent healing properties. A deity of strength and pride. A deity of creative might.”
In advance of its release, today Revolver Magazine offers up an exclusive excerpt from the book where vocalist/guitarist Nergal recounts his early grade and high school years, his increasing interest in extreme music and his growing skepticism of Catholicism. Check it out at THIS LOCATION.
In related news, BEHEMOTH is currently damning stages throughout North America on a mammoth co-headlining tour with legendary death metal practitioners/labelmates, Cannibal Corpse. The month-long takeover continues to march its way across the country and will trample through nearly three-dozen cities upon its conclusion on March 7th in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Support comes from two of Sweden’s finest metal exports: Aeon and Tribulation. Reports The Dallas Observer of the band’s set, “BEHEMOTH’s credo is the power of the will, and it completely permeates their live show… On a starkly lit stage filled with cast-iron ritualistic symbols, vocalist and guitarist Nergal lurched around with the ease of a seasoned performer. He held the audience in his hand, and his performance alone made it plain why BEHEMOTH’s live show is so renowned.”

Cannibal Corpse will be wrapping up their 25th anniversary celebrations for 2013 with a pair of shows in Florida, which has served as the band’s base of operations since relocating to Tampa from Buffalo, NY in 1994. The shows are scheduled for November 29 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL at the Culture Room and November 30 in Tampa, FL at the Brass Mug. Tickets will be on sale this Friday at ticketmaster.com for the Culture Room and TBA for the Brass Mug.
Founding member and bassist Alex Webster comments:
“We are very excited to be doing these shows in Florida this November. We formed the band in the first week of December back in 1988 so these shows will be happening almost exactly 25 years after our formation. It will be great to celebrate our band’s anniversary in the state that helped put death metal on the map. Also, we are very happy to be able play Ft. Lauderdale to make up for the show we missed there in June. And I think fans in both cities will be happy when they see the ticket price for these shows!”

Surgical Steel, the band’s first studio release since their 1996 LP Swansong, was produced by Colin Richardson (NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER, GOREFEST, CANNIBAL CORPSE, SINISTER, RODRIGO Y GABRIELA) and mixed/mastered by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, TESTAMENT).
“We went back to working with Ian Tilton, who is an iconic English photographer famous for working with THE STONE ROSES,” stated frontman Jeff Walker regarding the cover artwork.
“He actually did the front cover for Necroticism… as well. We’ve deliberately tried to evoke the feeling of that album and Heartwork.”
Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in the band’s current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON, DESOLATION, LIQUEFIED SKELETON). Expect some guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen as well, when Surgical Steel is finally released this Fall.

Thrilled to return after a five-year break, PEST is once again back on its own turns, exposing a characteristic brand of old-school black metal to passion and mixing melodic yet haunted guitar licks with speed, rawness and chaos. The Crowning Horror was mixed by Fred Estby (Dismemebr/Carnage/Necronaut) at Gutterview Recorders and mastered by Andy Jackson (Pink Floyd’s engineer, Grammy nominee) at Tube Mastering, UK.
The Crowning Horror will be available on a noble 8 panel digi-pack CD, digitally and on vinyl (first 100 copies on a solid, purple wax vinyl). The album is preceded by a 7″ EP titled Black Oath c/w Morbid Revelations released on April 16 worldwide.
The band commented:
“After years of silence a new wave of black death will finally strike the world. The plague is upon us. Bring the darkness!“

Next July, experimental metallers EPHEL DUATH will return to Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida. Together with producer Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Goathwhore, Hate Eternal) the band will complete the recording sessions for their new album started last February, and do the final mix. Alan Douches will master the songs at his West West Side Studios, NY.
EPHEL DUATH’s new album will once again feature the incredible Marco Minnemann (The Aristocrats, Kreator, Necorphagist) on drums, joined this time by his band mate Bryan Beller (The Aristocrats, Dethklok, Joe Satriani) on bass.
The recording line-up is as follow:
Davide Tiso – guitars
Karyn Crisis – vocals
Marco Minnemann – drums
Bryan Beller – bass
Featuring 8 new songs and reaching over 55 minutes of total length, EPHEL DUATH’s new album is a multilayered hybrid of death metal, jazz and post rock, blended together with a strong will to experiment and with no boundaries in sight.
“I wanted this album to be a strong statement,” comments Davide Tiso.
“And I believe we achieved that. Every time I put together a release for Ephel Duath, I deal with it as if it was our last. Would I be OK to let this album be the band’s last shout? Yes, I definitely would. I compose music to primarily please myself; doing it puts my mind in a very specific place, a spot where I feel fitting-in much, much better than in everyday life. Playing my guitar for Ephel Duath I get the peace and the release I need to keep myself going. I’m an avid metal listener but when I play for Ephel Duath I don’t feel the need to bring my music to fit any parameters, at the same time I don’t put any efforts whatsoever to sound different: I just let go and navigate.”
“Songs are coming out effortlessly and quicker the older I get, and I believe that with this new album I reached the highest level of intensity of my entire musical career,” continues Davide.
“Lyrically the new songs dig deep in higher self subject matters, combining brutally visual imagery with a painfully honest soul searching quest.”
Some of the new songs titles are: Tracing the Path of Blood, Feathers Under My Skin, When Mind Escapes Flesh.
EPHEL DUATH’s new album will come out in the fall of 2013 on Agonia Records, it will be available in digital, CD and vinyl version.
