ANCIIENTS Stream New Song, Announce Tour Dates

Progressive rock/metal outfit ANCIIENTS premiered a new song from their forthcoming album, Heart of Oak. The new track, Faith and Oath is streaming here.

Regarding the song, guitarist Chris Dyck said,“Faith and Oath began lyrically with some combo ideas about the Mayan’s serpent-god beliefs and a strange dream I had about a snake-killing ritual. The serpent originally was representing the deceiver; as the song progressed and the vibe was realized it became our anthem for courage and strength. The chorus features Scott Ruddy from Weirding (killer doomy Vancouver band) on vocals with me. The proggy fast riff is what i like to call a “ninja riff”…looks hard, easy to play. Kenny’s solo here is mental and I love how Hannay and Boon shift the timing on the last 2 repetitions of the solo riff to a swinging old 3/4 beat. The outro has Kenny laying down some sweet Dave Gilmours. We all dig Pink Floyd…Gilmour is the man. Cheers.”

ANCIIENTS also announced their participation in the Death To All Tour. ANCIIENTS will tour alongside legendary metal icons Paul Masvidal, Steve DiGiorgio, and Sean Reinert: The Human lineup of legendary metal pioneers, DEATH. The tour spans 3 weeks, hitting a dozen cities across North America.

Regarding the tour, guitarist Kenneth Cook said,“We are completely stoked and overjoyed to be invited to play on the DEATH TO ALL tour. Chuck Schuldiner and Death are legendary, and it is an honor to be able to celebrate his life for a great cause.”

A portion of the proceeds will once again benefit the Sweet Relief charity, a non-profit devoted to helping musicians without insurance who are facing serious illness. A full list of tour dates on the TOUR DATES page.

Heart of Oak slated for a North American release on April 16, will be available on CD, limited edition double gate-fold LP, and digitally. It is available now for pre-order at the Season of Mist E-shop.

Previously, the band streamed the tracks Falling in Line, and Raise the Sun. Both tracks are available on the ANCIIENTS Facebook page.

3. Falling in Line

“One of 2013’s most anticipated albums”Decibel

“The foursome’s brand of metal is thunderous yet always focused on melody, striking a strong balance between commanding and catchy. Unlike much of today’s mainstream metal acts, these guys know how to write honest-to-goodness songs, showing tremendous discipline amidst all the instrumental flamboyance, and are primed to put their young peers to shame” Popmatters.com, The Best Hopes to Break Out in 2013

DEATH TO ALL Announce North American Tour Dates

The esteemed DEATH TO ALL Tour, celebrating the life and music of DEATH mastermind Chuck Schuldiner, will be returning in 2013 for an even larger run of dates. After a successful 2012 run, the tour, now referred to as DTA1, will feature the original lineup of DEATH from Human — guitarist Paul Masvidal, bassist Steve Di Giorgio, and drummer Sean Reinert, with special guest vocalist/guitarist Max Phelps of Cynic/Exist. The band will be playing a selection of songs from the first four DEATH albums including the cream of the Human album.

Once again, the spirit of the tour is to spread the word and raise money for the charity Sweet Relief, while keeping the music and legacy of Chuck Schuldiner alive. A second version of the tour, dubbed DTA2, is planned for North America later this year, and will focus on the final three DEATH albums, plus a one-off European date at Neurotic Deathfest May 3 that will cover the entire DEATH catalog. A complete listing of dates can be found on the TOUR DATES page (above), where a limited number of VIP tickets are available.

Additionally, 2013 will continue to see the deluxe reissues of DEATH’s catalog by Relapse Records. Over the last couple of years, the label has painstakingly reissued and remastered the later albums from the DEATH catalog including The Sound of Perseverance, Individual Thought Patterns, Human, Spiritual Healing and other Chuck Schuldiner related releases. These DEATH titles are currently available for streaming at this location.

THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE New Music Video

(NEW YORK, NY) – THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE debuted a second music video for the track, Hate The Ones You Love from their latest record, Dead Years. Click HERE or the image above to watch.

Directed by veteran director David Brodsky, the video is about a group of young post-society survivors unable to cope with the task of killing a stranger who wanders into their territory. All of their coping mechanisms start to unravel.

Front man Rick Armellino comments:

“Hate the Ones You Love was the first complete track that we knew would end up on Dead Years and it helped frame the rest of the album. The lyrics themselves are about how often I find myself mistrusting or even disliking people who remind me of myself, and what it’s like to try and remain trusted to those you love when you can’t accept who you are.”

“Writing a script around the lyrical themes and acting for the first time seemed risky but the final product really matches what we are trying to do.”

“Brodsky is an artist, I can’t describe how cool it was working with him. Hope you guys dig it!”

“While delivering the kind of unpredictable polyrhythms that define their virtuosic metalcore, the guys also reveal some pretty solid songs” – Revolver Magazine

“Dead Years is not only another step forward, it’s the kind of record that will define This or the Apocalypse for years to come. It’s that good” – Outburn Magazine

“If you enjoyed the mind-blowing instrumentation on Haunt What’s Left, then Dead Years needs to be your big priority to acquire” – Metal Insider

DEATH: Previously Unreleased Live Version of Leprosy

The 3-Disc deluxe reissue of DEATH’s landmark, genre-defining album, Spiritual Healing is currently streaming online via Loudwire at this location.

Originally released in 1990, Spiritual Healing marked a new turn in the Death discography, one which ushered in cleaner production, a new level of boundary pushing musicianship and songwriting skills that were previously unimaginable from a metal band. Spiritual Healing sets the standard for riffs, insane time changes and of course mainman Chuck Schuldiner’s masterful guitar solos.  Now reissued as a double CD housed in super deluxe packaging featuring brand new liner notes from Death players James Murphy and Terry Butler, Chuck’s sister Beth Schuldiner and Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen, Disc 1 features a completely new remaster of the original album and Disc 2 contains 16 previously unreleased rehearsal, outtakes and studio instrumentals.

In addition to the 2-Disc edition, limited edition (2000 machine numbered copies) triple CD digipak will be available exclusively from www.relapse.com .  The third CD features a never before released live set recorded in 1990 featuring the Spiritual Healing Death line up.  An iTunes deluxe edition will also be released containing 5 additional previously unreleased pre-Human rehearsal tracks not available on either of the CD versions.

Spiritual Healing is set for a November 20 North American release date and is available now in the UKEurope and rest of the World. Spiritual Healing follows the recent Relapse Records re-issues of DEATH classics Individual Thought Patterns, The Sound of PerseveranceHuman, and the live collection Vivus! plus Chuck Schuldiner projects MANTAS & CONTROL DENIED.  Like those reissues, this collection will contain extensive liner notes from previous members and never-before-seen photos of the band. Pre-order options, including a new line of exclusive DEATH merch and a super limited die-hard fan pack containing an exclusive shirt design, poster flag, and patch / pin / guitar pick / sticker set can be found at this location.

Destroy All Monsters

 JapanDestroy All Monsters (怪獣総進撃)1968

Marvelous, weird kaiju film — set in 1999, the narrator explains that all the world’s monsters have been gathered on Monster Island (WHAT A CLEVER NAME) where they are contained and observed. There’s an underground base where the scientists monitor the monsters.

Suddenly, an alien race attacks and takes over control of the monsters, as well as the minds of the personnel at the base. A cumbersome-looking spaceship is dispatched from the Moon to investigate. Eventually the “Kilaaks” introduce themselves and present their demands, basically a place to live on Earth. By this time, the monsters, under Kilaak control, have decimated most of the world’s major cities, so the aliens don’t get much of a hearing.

A Media Blasters DVD was released (at long last) in November of 2011 with the original Japanese version. It sold out quickly. It’s a pleasure to be able…

Oderus comments on Flattus’ passing

Flattus Maximus, guitarist of GWAR

For all of the hijinx & silly stage antics a Gwar show presents, the entry from Oderus Urungus (Dave Brockie) is very real & heartfelt.
