Norway‘s VULTURE INDUSTRIES released new details regarding their upcoming Season of Mist debut. The band’s new album, titled The Tower is slated for release on October 1 in North America (September 27 rest of world). It was recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios in Bergen. The album was mixed by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (OPETH, KATATONIA, DEVIN TOWNSEND, IHSAHN, ENSLAVED).

Through their charismatic musicianship, VULTURE INDUSTRIES quickly earned the reputation of a formidable live act, characterized by the fusion of technical prowess with eccentric, manic performances by frontman Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen.

THE OCEAN Release Special Video Clip

With the official release of THE OCEAN’s anticipated Pelagial less than a week away, today Invisible Oranges offers up a special video sampler featuring 30-second clips of each track with accompanying artwork.

Immeasurably heavy both sonically and thematically, Pelagial was written, recorded, mixed and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music. Easily their most profoundly sophisticated work to date, Pelagial is an aquatic-themed audio adventure that quite literally submerses listeners as they journey with the band, beginning at the surface of the ocean and plunging through all five pelagic depth zones.

“The sixth album from German post-metal doombringers The Ocean… In the course of the record, tender piano interludes get stomped on by Mastodon-shaped footprints, lush strings work next to bulldozing double-kick work, and, at the end, the submarine crashes at Melvins tempos.” SPIN magazine

Pelagial is brilliantly written, expertly executed and filled with the kind of songwriting most bands can only dream of” – Craveonline

Pelagial resonates so deeply because its sonic continuity is matched with shifting, unified composition. The album viscerally depicts the spectrum of submersion while highlighting the musicians’ versatility and cohesion. The band has never written more intriguing music, and The Ocean Collective has never been a more apt name.” – MetalSucks

THIS MISERY GARDEN Stream Album

Metal/Rock outfit THIS MISERY GARDEN are streaming their new record, Cornerstone in it’s entirety here.

Switzerland‘s THIS MISERY GARDEN capture the dual nature of their home country on their second full-length Cornerstone. The face of THIS MISERY GARDEN is melancholy that reminds of early KATATONIA and speaks to isolation and despair. That darkness is wrapped in tight, measured, melodic hard rock reminiscient of meta-rock bands a la TOOL. Produced and mixed by Drop (SYBREED), and mastered by Jens Bogren (KATATONIA, OPETH, PARADISE LOST) in the prestigious Fascination Street Studio.

In the past 6 weeks, the band has premiered music videos for two tracks off Cornerstone. The band recently released a video for Siamese Again (directed by Mathias Wälti), and Warning Zone, which was filmed entirely during the making of the new album.

Cornerstone is now available for purchase via the Season of Mist E-Shop.

THE OCEAN Streaming Instrumental Version of New Album

In celebration of its forthcoming release, just three weeks away, Spin Magazine is currently streaming the instrumental version of THE OCEAN‘s Pelagial in its entirety!

Written, recorded, and intended to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music, Pelagial is a multifaceted conceptual musical voyage that begins at the surface of the ocean and plunges through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. In synch with diminishing light and increasing pressure as one dives or sinks deeper into the ocean, the album begins rather light and progressively gets heavier and slows as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level. The tracks, or episodes, are connected by interludes of underwater sounds and samples taken from old submarine movies, which give the album a claustrophobic “Das Boot“-kind of atmosphere.

“There are track marks, and there are actual songs built into this larger structure, but the whole album is a journey rather than a number of loose tracks, some riffs appear in the first two minutes of the album and then reappear 30 minutes later,” comments guitarist Robin Staps.

Pelagial was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Örebrö, Sweden, and firmly stands as THE OCEAN’s deepest, most challenging entry to their winding catalog of sound exploration. Pelagial will be released as a double CD, which includes both vocal and instrumental versions of the album, on April 26/29 (Europe) and April 30 (North America/World) through Metal Blade Records. For preorder info, studio footage and more, visit the band’s Official Metal Blade Page.

Additionally, preorders are currently available for the vinyl edition of the album, released through Pelagic Records. The vinyl edition features two separate gatefolds with related artwork (by Seldon Hunt), holding four 10″ vinyl records in different colors! Order yours now at: http//www.pelagic-records.com/vinyl.

In related news, THE OCEAN will return to North America this summer as part of the 7th annual Summer Slaughter Tour, presented by Indie Merch Store, ESP and Guitar World.
