HARK Finish Recording Debut Album

Welsh heavy power-rock trio HARK (Jimbob Isaac (ex TAINT) – Guitar, Vocals Nikolai Ribnikov (ex-WHYTELEAF) – Bass, Simon Bonwick (ex- WHYTELEAF) – Drums) have finished recording their forthcoming Season of Mist debut album. The as-yet-untitled album was recorded at Monnow Valley Studios in Wales (BLACK SABBATH, RUSH, JUDAS PRIEST, PORTISHEAD), and mixed by CONVERGE guitarist Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE, HIGH ON FIRE, KVELERTAK, YOUNG WIDOWS).

Regarding the recording, front-man Jimbob Isaac stated:

“Fingers to the bone. That has been one of our mottos since HARK’s inception, and it carried us through to the recording studio. Long days, little sleep and grim determination made this record the beast that we believe it to be. We pushed ourselves in all kinds of ways, and that commitment resonates throughout. The upcoming mini-tour will be a nice introduction for our fans, before the record release and more lengthy tours follow in 2014. We’re having fun biding our time, but there’s only so long you can keep a bull in its pen.”

HARK have also announced a string of European tour dates. The trek, which starts on November 27 in France, will travel through Switzerland, Germany, and the UK. The band is also slated to make an appearance at next year’s Wild Custom Guitars Festival in Clermont-Ferrand, France. A full list of confirmed tour dates can be found below.

Led by former TAINT frontman and acclaimed graphic artist Isaac, HARK has already released one sold-out seven-inch single and has toured extensively with RED FANG and CLUTCH throughout Europe. With fresh chops and almighty riff power, HARK continue to fuse punk attack with Sabbathian dirge, and decorate post-whatever angularities with classic rock flourish. While Isaac’s vocals expand on his tried and tested palette, his lyrics continue to shatter prose with bleak metaphor and acerbic spittle. Former WHYTELEAF rhythm section Ribnikov and Bonwick, the HARK engine, bring an endlessly creative pummel. Their dynamic chops, and blood lust for riffs meld with Isaac’s honed and equally determined musical vision.

News and tour information available through the Season of Mist website, the HARK websiteTwitter and Facebook page. For information on Jimbob Isaac’s artwork visit his website here.

THE OCEAN Release New Video, Ready to Hit the Road

THE OCEAN launched a brand new video for Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish in Dreams from their most recent album, Pelagial. The video is the band’s first official music video, not counting previous videos composed of live footage, directed by Alexander Kraudelt and Lukas Hambach, produced by Frameshock, with additional visuals by Craig Murray. Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish in Dreams is streaming now on metalblade.com/theocean.

Guitarist and founding member Robin Staps comments:

“This clip is blending performance footage with excerpts from Craig Murray’s Pelagial movie, which was released along with the limited edition CD and vinyl boxset versions of the album. We’ve never really done a clip like that before, but it was great fun making this.”

Pelagial, the latest album from THE OCEAN, is received with open arms and ears across the globe – this is a band that are becoming widely regarded as leaders within their genre.

Metal Sucks declared The Ocean have “never written more intriguing music.”

“Mastodon‐shaped footprints, lush strings… [before] the submarine crashes at Melvins tempos” – Spin

“more luxurious, experimental and textural” – Decibel

“ambitious and adventurous” – Terrorizer

“melodrama, intimacy, grandeur, grace and big fucking riffs” – Kerrang

“With Isis gone, no one has yet taken their place as intelligent and sensitive masters of post‐metal but, with this, there’s no doubt that The Ocean are shoe‐ins for the title” – RockARolla

The latter’s emphasis is fitting considering The Ocean recently toured a number of sell out shows with another master of post‐metal, Cult of Luna. The Mastodon reference is relevant after they invited The Ocean out for their summer tour dates, and the diversity on display is never more apparent when you consider tours in the past few years with Dillinger Escape Plan, Opeth and Anathema. The Ocean has an army of fans, and undoubtedly the respect of their peers.

Diverse elements were honed and perfected on Pelagial, and this ethos is at the heart of the touring package for The Ocean’s headline European tour. For an album that treads a wild and creative path within and outside of the supposed boundaries of metal, Norway’s SHINING could not be a more appropriate addition to the touring bill. Their new album One One One was recently released and it’s direct and pulsating approach is gathering the same kind of response that saw 2010’s Blackjazz get rave reviews all over the world, with contemporaries such as Danko Jones and Mike Portnoy writing pieces praising the band. If you’ve seen them live then you’ll know how good they are; if you’ve not, you need to!

Poland’s TIDES FROM NEBULA meanwhile have mesmerized the underground and in 2013 they take a step up, releasing their new album via a brand new label. They bring postrock to this package, a welcome ingredient due to this genre touching aspects of Pelagial. Finally, France’s HACRIDE bring some serious, technical heaviness to the tour, as anyone who has heard their new album Back To Where You’ve Never Been will testify.

German thrashers DEW-SCENTED have been confirmed as direct support for the almighty TESTAMENT on their upcoming European tour. As a result of the tour, DEW-SCENTED postponed their previously announced shows throughout France with No Return.

Dew-Scented

Check the TOUR DATES page (see above) for full listing

Regarding the cancelled dates, Dew-Scented commented,

“We apologize for any inconvenience this might produce and will be hopefully announcing re-scheduled dates for later this year very soon. However, we will still be appearing at Chaulnes Metal Fest 2013 since this show doesn’t clash with the other newly added dates. See you there”

DEW-SCENTED also finished tracking new studio recordings for a very special anniversary release, due out this spring.
In addition to the Testament tour, DEW-SCENTED confirmed their participation in the Full Metal Cruise, a week-long voyage featuring Kreator, Heaven Shall Burn, Firewind, Sabaton, Gamma Ray and Doro. AOSOTH Reveals New Album Details

French sowers of intelligent, distinctive and airless Black Metal, AOSOTH, revealed details of their forthcoming full-length album out on Agonia Records. The release entitled IV:Arrow In Heart will make its worldwide debut on April 16. More details can be found below.

The new album is a natural improvement over bands previews release, entitled III, which already was “a major step forward for Aosoth in creating their own distinct sound” (Sputnik Music).

Members of the band commented that IV:Arrow In Heart holds yet a bigger spiritual meaning:

“We’ve spent such a huge amount of time on defining a darker identity, yet open to a wider range of influences. Those tracks still haunt us, as delivering them was a painful and excruciating experience, and left some of us even physically wounded… Which gives that album even more of a spiritual value, as it involved a form of sacrifice.”

They went on to add:

“This fourth full-length release is without a doubt a great step forward for us in term of music writing, and sound.”

Pre-order IV:Arrow In Heart (6 original tracks, 56 minutes) now exclusively on the Agonia Records webshop

When the album hits stores, a re-release of AOSOTH’s II and III albums will be available for the first time on vinyl.

Tracklist for IV:Arrow In Heart

1. An Arrow in Heart
2. One With The Prince With A Thousand Enemies
3. Temple of Knowledge
4. Under The Nails and Fingertips
5. Broken Dialogue 1
5. Broken Dialogue 2
6. Ritual Marks of Penitence

Two tracks from AOSOTH’s former album can be streamed at:

Track “I”: https://soundcloud.com/aosoth/1-1
Track “V”: https://soundcloud.com/aosoth/5-1

Upcoming live appearances include:

May 9: France, Paris – La Boule Noire

Mysterious new THERION album out tomorrow

THERION are currently celebrating their 25th anniversary and will release their new album Les Fleurs du Mal tomorrow in North America via End of the Light Records.

Les Fleurs du Mal (End of the Light Records) – out tomorrow

Today GuitarWorld.com is hosting an exclusive stream on Les Fleurs du Mal in its entirety HERE. The album can also be streamed HERE.

There are still many details that are unknown about this mystical art project, and so far only the album title Les Fleurs du Mal can be officially announced. The album title refers to French author and poet  Charles Baudelaire (1821 – 1867). His famous poem collection Flowers of Evil (Les Fleurs du Mal in French) caused such an upset of emotions in France that the author was brought to court and got fined for “insulting the public” with six of the poems, that remained forbidden in France until 1949 when the ban was finally lifted.

The spirit of the project is a tribute to Baudelaire, and is imbued into both music and artwork. The album was recorded at Adulruna studio, located in a separate building next to Johnsson’s decadent “Villa Adulruna” where the band lived together while recording.

Les Fleurs du Mal is available to order on Amazon.
