WARDRUNA Viking Invades Seattle

WARDRUNA’s Einar Kvitrafn Selvik To Speak At MythicWorlds Convention This Weekend + History Channel’s Vikings Series Season Three Debut

WARDRUNA multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Einar Kvitrafn Selvik, will speak at the Mythicworlds Convention in Seattle, Washington this weekend.

Created by the producers of Faerieworlds and FaerieCon, MythicWorlds celebrates diverse international myth, legend and folklore and is inspired by people who create and live their own unique realms. At MythicWorlds, attendees meet and listen to internationally acclaimed artists, authors and designers, all of whom are myth-inspired makers in a variety of popular media. The convention includes workshops on international folklore and legend, writing and art making, traditional music and instruments and the exploration of ancient wisdom philosophies and practices. Selvik will be speaking at the Graphical And Oral Magic workshops throughout the weekend. The course takes place over three days and will serve as a practical and theoretical introduction and initiation to the northern esoteric arts of Runes, Galdr and Seidr and how they interact. The workshop will efficiently guide its attendees through the vast and fragmented historical sources on the subjects in order to deliver a solid ground to further initiate the practical approach. The power of will and strong emotions entwined with the power of words and voice are key elements of Northern witchcraft and essential in this course. Selvik has studied and practiced these arts since his early teens and will share of his own personal experience on the themes. Each session will contain both theoretical and practical work. For more information, go to THIS LOCATION.

Additionally, Selvik will appear in History Channel’s Vikings series. Inspired by the sagas of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the best-known mythological Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of England and France, Vikings portrays Ragnar as a former farmer who rises to fame by successful raids into England with the support of his family and fellow warriors. WARDRUNA’s music has appeared widely in the series previously, and will also be found extensively in the series’ forthcoming season. Selvik will appear in the third season, which to aired February 19th, 2015.

In related news, WARDRUNA’s Yggdrasil, the second release of the stunning Runaljod trilogy, will be made available for the first time in CD-digibook format via Indie Recordings on February 24th, 2015. The ongoing Runaljod trilogy, which began with 2009’s Gap Var Ginnunga, is a musical rendition of the twenty-four runes in what is often referred to as the “elder futhark.” Some of the oldest of Nordic instruments such as primitive deer-hide frame drums, kraviklyra, tagelharpe, mouth harp, goat horn and lur are implemented, while poetic metres and lyrics are written in Norwegian, Old Norse and Proto-Norse tongue. With Yggdrasil, Selvik, alongside vocalists Kristian Espedal (aka Gaahl) and Lindy-Fay Hella, managed to create a strikingly beautiful and intense continuation of what was started with their first album, without falling into the trap of merely repeating themselves. The Yggdrasil digibook is the only version where you can find complete lyrics with English translations as well as text on the runes. Order your copy today at THIS LOCATION.

“Yggdrasil lives up to its name – that of the giant tree central to Norse mythology – by stretching out into both darkness and light, a musical ying and yang, like branches creeping into sunlight as they grow up out of a shadowy forest.” — The Quietus

“…something quite remarkable, and nothing quite like you’ve heard before.” — Echoes And Dust

The album was recorded mainly in outdoor settings with the use of ancient Nordic instruments (deer-hide frame drums, mouth harp, clove and hoof rattles from deer and goats, bone flutes, goat and cow horns) and features guest appearances by renowned Icelandic composer Himlar Örn Hilmarsson and leading rímur singer Steindór Andersen. GOD SEED Premiere New Video

Click image to watch the GOD SEED video for Alt Liv

Alt Live comes off the recently released full-length GOD SEED album, I Begin. Produced by Mats Willassen in the depths of the Norwegian wilderness, it truly encompasses the ambiance and spirit of the track.

The video is also being premiered at Metalhammer.co.uk in the UK, Metal-hammer.de in Germany and VS-webzine.com in France.

Among the most anticipated black metal releases in recent memory, I Begin was unleashed stateside on October 22 through Indie Recordings and continues to earn hails and horns domestically and abroad.

Revolver commends the album in a 4/5 review saying:

“Rather than put out more Burzum-influenced black-metal backwash, they’ve interpolated elements of gloom-rock, prog, and even experimental electronics into their classic-black collages, and, as improbable as it may seem, the variety works”

About.com notes:

“The craving to experiment is obvious throughout, with warm vintage tones clashing with icy avant-hues. Yet the album’s adventurousness never obscures its pitch-black heart; GOD SEED ensures the frosty assault of black metal is accentuated in any eccentric diversions”

Blistering adds:

“You couldn’t necessarily find the GOD SEED dudes at fault for wanting to continue down the (left-hand) path walked during their time with Gorgoroth, yet I Begin will enter the win column because of its unpredictable nature. In essence, the ‘70s vibe put out coalesces with the bleak and bloody black metal of Gorgoroth’s ‘00s output, and when you stop to compare the respective albums, is probably better than what Gorogorth was putting out a decade ago.”

Exclaim agrees:

I Begin is an ambitious and powerful debut, which builds on the foundation of the band members’ notable pedigrees, but is also not content to rest on those laurels, pushing beyond the comfort zone of their rasping, bombastic black metal past into something more intricate.”

The album’s first single, This From The Past, premiered via esteemed music portal, Pitchfork. If you missed it, check it out HERE.

GOD SEED is currently on the Creatures From The Black Abyss Tour 2012 alongside Cradle Of Filth.

GOD SEED features within its ranks Gaahl, King Ov Hell, Geir (Dimmu Borgir), Lost (Grimfist), Sir (Trelldom, Djerv) and Kenneth (Motorpsycho) and I Begin is the first studio album King and Gaahl have released together since Gorgoroth’s Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam.
