BATTLECROSS Release Slayer Cover

Battlecross released a new cover of Slayer’s War Ensemble.

Guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala says,

“Slayer is obviously one of our biggest influences. Slayer taught me personally to not give a f#@k and throw in attitude in your riffs. War Ensemble is one of my favorite Slayer songs because it embodies the aggression and attitude of Slayer but also is more dynamic than a traditional Slayer song that is all speed. Jeff Hanneman was an underrated player and it’s shame his greatness was only recognized after he passed. In honor of Jeff we wanted to cover “War Ensemble” and throw in a bit of our own twist and speed to the song. Slayer!”

The track will be streaming via Metal Hammer UK & Metal Hammer Germany beginning May 27 and will later be made available to fans via iTunes.

It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Matt Dalton at 37 Studios in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

The band recently kicked off a North American tour with Killswitch Engage and Trivium that wraps up at the end of May, then the band ventures to Europe in June for a series of festival appearances, as well as club shows with Huntress.

Blockbuster Fall Tour Announced: LAMB OF GOD, KSE, TESTAMENT, HUNTRESS

Cover PhotoLong-time friends LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE joined forces for what will undoubtedly be one of the essential “can’t miss” tours of the fall of 2013.  The tour launches October 22 in Toronto and canvases much of the U.S and Canada.  The two bands are a dominant live pairing, and will combine for 28 North American shows in total.  Support for all shows except Los Angeles will be provided by thrash legends Testament, with Huntress opening all shows.

Lamb of God

LAMB OF GOD will end the North American portion of the Resolution record cycle with this tour. It includes a coast to coast visit to all major Canadian cities which will be LAMB OF GOD’s first visit to Canada on this cycle other than a festival play in June in Montebello and a show in Toronto in January 2012.  In the last year, both Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament have been certified gold in Canada.  LAMB OF GOD will finish the Resolution cycle completely with a visit to Europe and South Africa in January 2014. Details on that tour will be released late August.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE released their sixth album Disarm the Descent this April, which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200; at No. 1 on Hard Rock Chart; and at No. 1 on the Rock Chart. It marked the first album with frontman Jesse Leach at the vocal helm since 2002’s now-classic Alive or Just Breathing.  The album has been warmly embraced and well-received by both fans and the media, as it has just crossed the 100,000-sold mark in only three months of release.  Having just wrapped a highly successful U.S summer headline tour, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE look to continue their Disarm the Descent record cycle with this fall trek.

Both LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have been wanting to hit the road together for quite some time now and are both excited to finally get the chance.  They have also made sure to keep the ticket prices as low as possible so that all of their fans can come out and have a good time with them on this tour.

AMON AMARTH Post Mini-Doc Part 2

In anticipation of the release of their ninth studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods, Swedish death metal tyrants AMON AMARTH unleash the second of their special three-part mini documentary. Fittingly titled Forging Mjölnir, the crisp black and white film was directed by Luke Daley (http://makezure.com) and offers up intimate interviews with the band.

Watch the latest fifteen-minute segment where the AMON AMARTH collective recall their earliest metal memories as well as the band’s primitive beginnings via their microsite at http://deceiver.amonamarth.com.

Having blasted onto the Swedish melodic death metal scene with 1998’s Once Sent from the Golden Hall, every AMON AMARTH album has arrived bursting at the seams with power, melody and immersive storytelling centered around the richness of Norse mythology. Deceiver of the Gods captures the quintet at the peak of their powers.

From the moment the title track explodes in a haze of thrash-flavored aggression to the final mournful passages of epic closer Warriors Of The North there is not a wasted moment, the band bombarding the listener with ten tracks of compulsive and electrifying metallic fury. Whether they’re attempting to remove your face and separate your vertebrae with the deranged attack of Blood Eagle or carrying you on the back of the mammoth grooves driving We Shall Destroy and Father Of The Wolf they hit with decimating force, all the while unleashing ruthlessly captivating melodies. With the aforementioned thrash elements creeping in, as well as the old school metal and doom accents lending added depth and scale to standout track Hel, guitarist Olavi Mikkonen admits this time out the band were not afraid to wear their influences on their collective sleeve.

“We decided fairly early that we should go all-in on the songwriting for this album. If we had ideas or riffs that were perhaps a little too thrash oriented or traditional-metal sounding for AMON – or that were maybe too AMON or perhaps similar to what we had done in the past – we would still keep them as long as we really liked them. A few years back we would pass on those ideas and riffs, while now we feel it was right to just go with it. I think the result is that the songs are wider, they have stronger melodies, they are better composed with lots of dynamics in them, and there are no fillers or blanks on there. Everything is as good as it can possibly be, and reflects just how driven we were to make this a great record.”

Deceiver of the Gods was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage) and comes adorned with another outstanding Tom Thiel-created cover portraying a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. As an added bonus, Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, Hel.

For special Deceiver of the Gods pre-order packages as well as a stream of the title track, go to this location: http://www.metalblade.com/amonamarth. Additionally, the full album is available for your death threats/complaints on The Welding Room. Shape Shifter now streaming via Stereogum HERE.

Deceiver of the Gods will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25, in Europe June 21/24 and Japan on June 26.

Following a run of European festival dates next month, AMON AMARTH will be opening the main stage of this year’s edition of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest set to commence June 29 in San Bernardino.

BETTER LEFT UNSAID Premiere New Song Online

Modesto, CA‘s Better Left Unsaid released the new track Mr. Dark from their upcoming new album online via their Facebook page at http://on.fb.me/16tcrKA. Better Left Unsaid will release their new self-titled album on June 18 via Epochal Artists Records/Capital Music Group. The album was recorded ProView Studios in Riverbank, CA Studios with producer Adam Ruppel (Systematic).

“We are extremely bored with most of the current metal trends. There’s not enough songwriting in a lot of newer metal. It’s getting too technical in a lot of ways, it’s almost like watching a movie that is just a giant car chase with no plot,” said says guitarist Greg Fender.

“There are plenty of other metal records that are super clean and perfect, but they’re also sterile. We wanted things to be raw and dark, dirty and ugly for this record, because sometimes everything is not going to be alright.”

Better Left Unsaid are a complex melodic metal machine that utilizes heavy grooves and technical precision to craft a powerful versatile attack. One minute, lead vocalist Adam Raffety lets loose anguished growls that sound a caged animal, and the next he’s belting out some of the most infectious melodies you’ve ever heard. Their versatility is their greatest asset and the band have bottled up all the trials and tribulations over the past few years, and unleashed them onto their explosive new self-titled album, Better Left Unsaid. The band employ a steadfast “do it yourself” attitude with their brutal brand of metal, that has seen them crisscross the country over seven times playing shows with the likes of Killswitch Engage, Devildriver, 3 Inches Of Blood, Daath, Mushroomhead, (Hed)P.E. and Hatebreed.

Better Left Unsaid tracks She Needs Violence and Threat Of Truth are featured on The Welding Room.
