SAINT VITUS Stream Unreleased Track

Heavy/Doom metal progenitors SAINT VITUS are streaming one of the bonus tracks from their forthcoming reissue of ‘C.O.D.’ The bonus track, titled “The Chameleon” is streaming now at Pitchfork.

Regarding the unreleased track, guitarist Dave Chandler said,

“I sent our U.S. label (at the time ) the tracks “The Chameleon” and “To Breed A Soldier” that I wrote with Christian (Linderson). The label did not like the direction the album was going and that really pissed us off. I scrapped everything I was working on and told Christian that things were not working out, so he left and went back home to Sweden.

The two bonus songs on the reissue weren’t actually  written for the C.O.D. Both were written after C.O.D. was released, and were  intended to be demo tracks for the next SAINT VITUS album. As they were the only other recordings from the era with Christian,  we decided to put them out on the C.O.D. re-issue.”

The re-issues of ‘COD’ and ‘Die Healing’ will be available on CD, limited-edition double LP, and colored vinyl gatefold LPs. ‘Remastered and enhanced with two previously unreleased bonus tracks, ‘C.O.D.’ features COUNT RAVEN’s Christian Linderson on vocals, while ‘Die Healing’ see’s original SAINT VITUS singer Scott Reagers return to the mic. All formats can be pre-ordered here.

SAINT VITUS recently streamed two songs off ‘Die Healing’ and ‘C.O.D.” The tracks, “One Mind” and “Children of Doom” can be found here.

SAINT VITUS previously released ‘Lillie: F-65‘. The album, their first in 17 years, reunites the unmistakable guitar playing of co-founder Dave Chandler with the deeply resonate vocals of hard rock legend Scott “Wino” Weinrich. ‘Lillie: F-65’ is streaming at the official SAINT VITUS Bandcamp page.

Updated SAINT VITUS news and tour information will be made available at the Season of Mist website and the SAINT VITUS website, Facebook, and Myspace pages.

“the boys are on fire here, flush with renewed energy and basking in the glow of their newfound power” – Pitchfork

“This sick behemoth of a sound – and patented strangled-cat guitar solos – could only come from one band, and that’s a window into why Lillie: F-65 succeeds as a whole: the Saint Vitus Character remains intact, never fucked-up with modern contrivances. Doubtful that Sabbath’s own 2012 comeback will be even a faction this good” -Decibel

“it’s clear that their chops have only increased in the intervening years, and they certainly haven’t lost their ability to bring dynamics to a slothful subgenre” – Outburn

“Vitus shows the enduring significance of their approach, and that what proved true about them in their initial run is no less true now: By not being of their era, they were and remain timeless. Saint Vitus are more relevant now than they’ve ever been, and Lillie: F-65 shows a good deal of why. No doubt one of 2012’s landmark albums. Highly recommended” – The Obeslisk

Esoteric, experimental artisan’s Locrian are currently streaming their forthcoming full-length Return To Annihilation via Spin.com at this location. Spin describes the album as a “an eclectic float down murky, noxious, sludgy waters” and compares the group to everyone from Boards of Canada to Sunn0))) to Neurosis.

EMPTY FLOWERS Elevate “Post-Rock” with New Single

EMPTY FLOWERS, the east coast post-rock band featuring current and former members of CABLE completed work on its sophomore album FIVE. The LP was recorded by Keith Souza and Seth Manchester at Rhode Island’s Machines with Magnets multimedia arts facility (Battles, Six Finger Satellite, The Body) and is the follow up to the group’s 2012 debut SIX which was called “immediate” by Pitchfork and earned Album of the Week honors at Stereogum. Teasing the release of FIVE, EMPTY FLOWERS just unveiled the brand new song, I Get to Know its Name, making the track available as a free download on its bandcamp page. Rock the surging song I Get to Know Its Name now at this location.

While an official release date for FIVE has yet to be determined, the album is expected this summer in all formats via The Path Less Traveled and Atomic Action! records. In keeping with the tradition EMPTY FLOWERS started last year, the band will be releasing remixes of some of the new material sporadically over the course of 2013. Confirmed remixes are in the works from artists and collaborators such as Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu), Jeff Caxide (Palms, ISIS) and more. Stay tuned!

EMPTY FLOWERS features Christian McKenna (vocals), Randy Larsen (bass), Bernie Romanowski (guitar) and Andre Galiffi (drums).

“Empty Flowers, a post-rock band featuring members of Doghouse/Hydra Head-related Conn. metalcore group Cable, are reminiscent of Girls Against Boys, Honor Roll, Lungfish, and other older acts, in the way they meld speak-sing vocals to slinky minimalist repetition” – PITCHFORK

“The giant, melting blue-white glacier on the front of Empty Flowers’ debut is a decent indication of what’s in store for your ear holes.. it’s enough to chill the air” – DECIBEL

“Connecticut post-rock outfit Empty Flowers have a reputation that transcends their status as a newly formed band, as Randy Larsen and Bernie Romanowski are members of metallic hardcore turned Southern sludge rock group Cable… the sparer, more precise sound of Empty Flowers often evokes the way that snowfall can simultaneously muffle and amplify sound” – EXCLAIM!

“In the way the band interlocks its splintered guitar-shards into heavy grooves, they recall Slint, or Polvo, or even Unwound. And in the way that frontman Christian McKenna floats his strained, piercing, mythic yelp over the band’s patient thud, I can’t help but compare them to Lungfish, a parallel I don’t mention lightly… they land in the same deep head-nod territory, and hearing a band so good at that sound gives the rare sensation of scratching an itch I didn’t know I had” – STEREOGUM

His victorious name is Fenrir, also called Tungls Tjúgari! Hail Fenrir!”

Shamaatae continues;

“The sounds and music on this album are my auditory vision of the march of Fenrir convoyed with his hordes of giant wolves from the depths of the underworld to face Ragna Rök with warlike glory – deformed giant-wolves swarming in thousands. This is my tribute to the wrathful, harsh and untamed anti-nature of Fenrir’s mighty essence! The anti-cosmic enemy of the worlds! Heill Tungls Tjúgari! Heilir Fenris Synir!”

Purson, the female-fronted UK band that Kerrang has described as having “the best bits of ’60s and ’70s rock – think Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream… brought to 2013 in a sweet-smelling musical haze,” premiere the song Well Spoiled Machine via Pitchfork HERE.

Debut Album, The Circle And The Blue Door, Out April 30

The London-based band’s debut album, The Circle and The Blue Door, is set for an April 30 release via Metal Blade/Rise Above Records.

“best debut of 2013” – Decibel Magazine: Editor-in-Chief, Albert Mudrian

“their brand of gothic psychedelia is set to take 2013 by storm” – Terrorizer

“Purson are the UK’s new ambassadors for the otherworldly”  Subterranea/Metal Hammer

Spiderwood Farm, a song singer Rosalie Cunningham penned after flipping through a copy of Sounds from 1972, is streaming via Decibel HERE. A video for Leaning On A Bear debuted last month and is viewable HERE.

Directed by Chris Martin, Rosalie said of the setting:

“We found this great place in Brixton, South London called Café Cairo that look as though it has been transplanted there from the souk in Marrakesh.”

The clip gives a perfect visual to the band’s trippy psychedelia, or as they call it “vaudeville carny psych.”

Pre-orders of The Circle and The Blue Door are available via Metal Blade at this link: www.metalblade.com/purson. Purson will make their debut U.S. performances this fall with tour dates forthcoming.
