ESOTERIC to Embark on North American Tour

Legendary UK doom pioneers ESOTERIC have revealed more details about their forthcoming North American tour, and added additional dates. The tour, which starts on September 20 in Soda Springs, CA, will run for two weeks before ending on October 5 in Cambridge, MA. New tour dates have been announced in Chicago, IL at Reggie’s and Cambridge MA, at T.T. The Bear’s Place. The tour will see support from Saturnalia Temple (SWE) and Velnias (CO). A full list of tour dates can be found below.

ESOTERIC recently announced a rare appearance at this year’s Stella Natura Festival. The Stella Natura festival runs from September 20 through the 22 and is located in the Sierra Nevada’s Tahoe National Forest. The festival will see ESOTERIC perform alongside bands like WARDRUNA (NO), STARGAZER (AU), JARBOE, LOSS, WORM OUROBOROS, and more. Further information can be found at the Stella Natura website.

ESOTERIC is touring in support of their latest album, titled ‘Paragon of Dissonance’ (November,  2011) The album is streaming in its entirety at the official ESOTERIC Bandcamp page.

ESOTERIC trace their underground roots back to 1992. The Birmingham, UK-based outfit have been pushing the limits of sonic intensity for more than 20 years. From the mind-bending darkness of their 90’s double albums ‘Epistemological Despondency’ and the ‘Pernicious Enigma’, to the expansive epic doom found on their new album ‘Paragon of Dissonance’, ESOTERIC have never compromised their initial aim – to drown unsuspecting listeners in an oppresive ocean of distortion.

Updated ESOTERIC news and tour information available through the Season of Mist website, and the ESOTERIC website and Facebook page.

CAROUSEL Streaming New Album

Pittsburgh rock n’ roll band CAROUSEL will drop its awesomely-titled debut LP Jeweler’s Daughter on August 20 via Tee Pee Records. The dual guitar-driven four-piece ‘s music incorporates many elements, most notably the harmonized guitar lines of Thin Lizzy, the bombast of Mountain and the rhythmic propulsion of Diamond Head, Motorhead and other bands whose names include the word “head”. Now, respected hard rock haven The Obelisk gives heavy music fans a feast of sound, streaming  Jeweler’s Daughter in its entirety while calling CAROUSEL’s riveting rock “a modern take on early ’70s swagger.” Crank your speakers ’til they explode and rock CAROUSEL’s “Jeweler’s Daughter” LP today at THIS location!

CAROUSEL has been a mainstay of the Pittsburgh rock scene since its very first show in 2011, sharing the stage with local rock, metal and punk bands as well as touring acts such as Mount Carmel, Purling Hiss and Disappears, all the while demonstrating an earth-shaking ability to rock with each and every live performance. CAROUSEL’s Wheeler and Jake Leger (drummer for Pittsburgh indie-rock icons Karl Hendricks Trio) were previously members of noise-rock trio Magic Wolf, while second guitarist Chris Tritschler also plays in the PGH metal band Lady Beast. With CAROUSEL’s strong pedigree, instantly-memorable two-guitar harmonized lines (not so much like Iron Maiden, more like Wishbone Ash or Thin Lizzy) and rhythmic swing (or “Bill Ward-isms”), the band can easily hold the interest of punk and metal fans, but add in the charismatic vocals of Wheeler, and it also fits right in at a local yinzer bar. The  band’s name is drawn from the futuristic sci-fi movie “Logan’s Run” and the device in the film that terminates young citizens once they reach the ripe age of 30.

CAROUSEL is the epitome of guitar rock. Based solely on the buzz from the successful self-release of Tears of Stone, their debut 12″ EP, CAROUSEL was was invited to join the Tee Pee Records family. Now, armed with a new full-length LP, CAROUSEL looks to make its move into the national spotlight. Look for them on tour this fall!

Track Listing:

1.) Jeweler’s Daughter
2.) Long Time
3.) Crippler
4.) On My Way
5.) Waste of Time
6.) Light of Day
7.) Nightfall
8.) Contrition

Jeweler’s Daughter is available for purchase via iTunes at this location.

Carousel Single of the Month July 2013 on Mind Cure Records

“Jeweler’s Daughter is Carousel‘s debut for Tee Pee Records (and truly there isn’t a better match right now between band and label). Carousel deliver the goods on their own terms and in a way that not only has one foot in the past but the other firmly secured in the future” – METAL INSIDER

“Carousel’s epic-rock approach is clearly on display” – PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE

“the epitome of guitar rock: The rhythm section holds down the beat while both guitarists ride blues riffs as far as they can go; ‘rhythm guitar’ isn’t really something Carousel does. Besides the Thin Lizzy guitars, bands like Blue Cheer and early Sabbath are obvious Carousel antecedents” – PITTSBURGH CITY PAPER

“There’s the easy-listening classic rock bullshit (the stuff a DJ spins at your lame cousin’s wedding) that clouds Clear Channel airwaves, but that’s not what interests Carousel. Think Thin Lizzy, Steppenwolf, or Bow Wow (no, not the hip-hop dude – look ’em up-one of the best Japanese rock bands ever). Like these bands, when Carousel enters the stage, they jostle our senses with mean guitar licks and an epic rhythm section. All they’re missing is some fake blood and a ridiculous drum riser. And they rock hard” – DRAW US LINES

ANCIIENTS Stream New Song, Announce Tour Dates

Progressive rock/metal outfit ANCIIENTS premiered a new song from their forthcoming album, Heart of Oak. The new track, Faith and Oath is streaming here.

Regarding the song, guitarist Chris Dyck said,“Faith and Oath began lyrically with some combo ideas about the Mayan’s serpent-god beliefs and a strange dream I had about a snake-killing ritual. The serpent originally was representing the deceiver; as the song progressed and the vibe was realized it became our anthem for courage and strength. The chorus features Scott Ruddy from Weirding (killer doomy Vancouver band) on vocals with me. The proggy fast riff is what i like to call a “ninja riff”…looks hard, easy to play. Kenny’s solo here is mental and I love how Hannay and Boon shift the timing on the last 2 repetitions of the solo riff to a swinging old 3/4 beat. The outro has Kenny laying down some sweet Dave Gilmours. We all dig Pink Floyd…Gilmour is the man. Cheers.”

ANCIIENTS also announced their participation in the Death To All Tour. ANCIIENTS will tour alongside legendary metal icons Paul Masvidal, Steve DiGiorgio, and Sean Reinert: The Human lineup of legendary metal pioneers, DEATH. The tour spans 3 weeks, hitting a dozen cities across North America.

Regarding the tour, guitarist Kenneth Cook said,“We are completely stoked and overjoyed to be invited to play on the DEATH TO ALL tour. Chuck Schuldiner and Death are legendary, and it is an honor to be able to celebrate his life for a great cause.”

A portion of the proceeds will once again benefit the Sweet Relief charity, a non-profit devoted to helping musicians without insurance who are facing serious illness. A full list of tour dates on the TOUR DATES page.

Heart of Oak slated for a North American release on April 16, will be available on CD, limited edition double gate-fold LP, and digitally. It is available now for pre-order at the Season of Mist E-shop.

Previously, the band streamed the tracks Falling in Line, and Raise the Sun. Both tracks are available on the ANCIIENTS Facebook page.

Heart of Oak tracklisting:
1. Raise the Sun
2. Overthrone
3. Falling in Line
4. The Longest River
5. One Foot in the Light
6. Giants
7. Faith and Oath
8. Flood and Fire
9. For Lisa

“One of 2013’s most anticipated albums”Decibel

“The foursome’s brand of metal is thunderous yet always focused on melody, striking a strong balance between commanding and catchy. Unlike much of today’s mainstream metal acts, these guys know how to write honest-to-goodness songs, showing tremendous discipline amidst all the instrumental flamboyance, and are primed to put their young peers to shame” Popmatters.com, The Best Hopes to Break Out in 2013

KAMIKABE Also Join Bloodletting North America Tour

(Pittsburgh, PA) Tech death metal machine, Kamikabe are proud to announce their participation in the return of Unique Leader‘s annual Extreme Metal tour, Bloodletting North America. They will be supporting their labelmates, French tech death metal masters, Gorod, as well as another fellow Unique Leader band, Inanimate Existence. Vale of Pnath (Willowtip) will be kicking things off each night.

The band had the following to say about the tour:

“We couldn’t be anymore stoked about this tour! An opportunity to shred with Gorod over here in the states is not something that happens too often. Plus, adding Inanimate Existence and Vale of Pnath to the lineup, as well as several other sick bands on select dates, makes this tour that much more crushing! We’ve been sharpening our blades and plan on destroying every city we hit. The years of hard work and support from everyone that has helped us along the way really speaks volumes for the Death Metal culture that we’re lucky to have. We’re excited to show Gorod how we do it over here, and more than ready to execute a full on assault from coast to coast!”

The tour spans from May 3 to June 1 covering the U.S. and parts of Canada. Also appearing on select dates will be Fallujah (Unique Leader), The Kennedy Veil (Unique Leader), Pyrexia (Unique Leader), Applaud the Impaler (Unique Leader), Rivers of Nihil (Metal Blade), Cognitive (Torture Music) and Archspire (Season of Mist).

PILGRIM to Support SAMOTHRACE on Tour

Rhode Island doom act PILGRIM kick off a short run of tour dates beginning in New Orleans on February 24 with SAMOTHRACE. The band plans to unveil new material on stage throughout the tour, so fans at these shows will be the first to experience brand new music! For the complete itinerary, visit metalblade.com/pilgrim or the band’s facebook page: facebook.com/hailthepilgrim.

Critically acclaimed debut Misery Wizard available now

PILGRIM comments on the tour:

“It’s been a year since Misery Wizard has been released and the positive reaction it has received from fans of heavy music all over the world have been simply fantastic. This upcoming tour is special for us as we will be going to places we’ve yet to perform at and have some new material to unleash. Be forewarned and hails to the supporters!”

At the end of 2012, PILGRIM had the honor of performing at Metal Blade’s 30th Anniversary ScionAV label showcase. Live audio, as well as interviews from the event can be found at scionav.com.

PILGRIM
w/ Samothrace
02/24 New Orleans, LA Siberia
02/26 Atlanta, GA 529
02/27 Raleigh, NC Slim’s Downtown
02/28 Richmond, VA Strange Matter
03/01 Brooklyn, NY Saint Vitus Bar
03/02 Philadelphia, PA Beaumont Warehouse
03/03 Baltimore, MD Ottobar
03/04 Pittsburgh, PA Howlers

PILGRIM consists of drummer Krolg Splinterfist, the Slayer of Man, bassist Count Elric the Soothsayer and guitarist/vocalist The Wizard. With a mix of destruction, misery and beauty, these young disciples of doom blend a surprisingly original sword ‘n’ sorcery feel with the classic chest-caving heaviness of the masters, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram. Their thick walls of majestically darkened guitar, massive booming bass, and dangerously powerful yet calculated drumming lull listeners into an intense dream-like trance, abducting them to places they never knew were dwelling within their own minds.

Commented Pitchfork:

“…in a realm where the old-school and the experimental push against one another in an eternally dynamic non-equilibrium, it’s certainly not about who your influences are. It’s, of course, about how you use them. PILGRIM simply have fun with these predecessors, renewing old sounds with the zeal of teenage boys worshiping cheap Sabbath posters on their bedroom walls and the skills of players who’ve been at this for a while. PILGRIM sing about devils and tears, paying dues and surviving adventures, taking care to touch on most of the requisite tropes while not pushing any one too far… This is an excellent debut from a preternaturally developed upstart.”
