After a number of sold-out appearances and plenty of fan and critical support, two time JUNO-award nominees Cancer Bats just announced that they will once again be taking their alter ego Bat Sabbath on the road. As a special treat for fans, this time around, the band will perform two full sets every night, one as Cancer Bats and one as Bat Sabbath. Coined the Double Header Bat Madness Tour, the tour includes five dates in the U.S and thirteen dates across Canada.

Having toured extensively across the globe, playing over 270 shows in support of their critically acclaimed third album Dead Set on Living, the Double Header Bat Madness Tour is the perfect way to end off the year.

“We are all way too stoked for this Canadian run!” says lead vocalist Liam Cormier.

“All of the touring we’ve done on this record has been amazing and we can’t think of a better way to finish it all off then with one last Canadian banger! AND to make it the ultimate rager, we’re adding a full Bat Sabbath set to keep the party going all night. I can’t think of a better way to end off a record and to get stoked on writing a new album!”

About:

A five piece group based out of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, following in the footsteps of bands such as: Behemoth, Dissection, and Immortal, XUL have left the beaten path and set out to forge their own brand of Blackened Death Metal.

An energetic and interactive live performance – with crushing rhythms seamlessly coalescing into atmospheric passages, accompanied by punishing percussion waves and subtle vocal harmonies – expands upon the previously established essence of the sub-genre. With songs reminiscent of war-torn landscapes, destructive human nature and evil intent, XUL has captivated audiences and garnered positive reviews, and on June 16, 2012, released their first full length album, entitled Malignance.

Driven by determination and a diverse accumulation of musical comprehension, XUL has toured Western Canada, as well as proven themselves worthy to share the stage with bands such as: Obscura, Exhumed, Vreid, Kampfar, Woods of Ypres, Macabre, Withered, Cephalic Carnage, Archspire and 3 Inches of Blood. With a spring 2013 tour looming, XUL is determined to build on an impressive local following by infecting Western Canada with hopes of Canada in its entirety in the near future. XUL’s focus for winter 2012 is to meticulously craft new material for another release in 2013.

#10 of Top 20 Best Albums of 2012 for MetalMadeInCanda.ca

“Xul continue to offer a barrage after barrage of obliterating death metal… when the sheer fire power and dexterous performances that Xul serve up are so satisfying. Particularly when you consider that is the band’s debut album. Malignance is undeniably impressive.” – Powerplay Mag UK

“one of the most impressive debut’s I’ve heard in a very long time. Rarely are the similar artists mentioned in press kits an entirely accurate estimation of the soundscapes to be found within an album proper, but I find the examples of Behemoth and Dissection are quite fitting in this case, as the band excels at weaving the brutality of the former with the epic melodious propensity of the latter, not to mention the grandiosity inherent to both, into a rich and exciting tapestry of extremity” – Metal-Archives.com

“will appeal to fans of black/death metal. Hard-hitting and brutal, intensity does not let up until the very last song” – TheFrontRowReport.com

“Xul operate within the genre of blackened death metal, taking cues from blackened death metal giants like Behemoth, black metal legends like Immortal and Mayhem, as well as death metal demigods like Morbid Angel. They have taken all of these inspirations and combined them into their own artistically highly successful brand of blackened death metal, which features the brutality of death metal and the darkness and evil of black metal. Thus, you get and album the treats you to both the machine-gun bass drums, guttural vocals, and technically proficient playing associated with death metal and the tense harmonies, tremolo picking, and blazing blast beats associated with black metal… a huge artistic success and captures what I consider to be the best from both death metal and black metal” – Metal Music Archives

“a raging, rolling machine of Black-tinged Death Metal” – MetalObserver

“the band manages to make a sound that encompasses the Death Metal ‘old school’ with the current time style that combines technical, brutality and a very dark mood, as do Belphegor, Behemoth and Azarath” – Whiplash (Brazil)

“a stunning display of musicianship with its ultra-slick leads, hyper-speed percussion and incredible bass tone. Meyers’s fetid vocals salivating on the album’s rotting body ties the whole gruesome scene together. Xul wreak Vengeance on the ears of death metal fans, forcing their way in the cortex to fester and boil. This is one Malignance you’ll be dying to have” – Kingdom of Noise

“I love death metal that takes no prisoners” – Battl Helm

“The first track sets the pace for the whole album; hard hitting, ear splitting, skull crushing brutality. Battlestorm, indeed! Strong black influences shine through, especially in tracks like Porta Nocis, and Vengeance, while the instrumental Winter’s Reign leaves you spellbound. I have to admit to being really impressed with the amount of work these northern bastards have put into this, and I highly recommend it” – Canadian Black Metal

“a very great sounding heavy and brutal blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS  INCLUDE Battlestorm, Winter’s Reign and Tomb Of The Tyrants” – BringerofDeathZine

“The perfect combination of black and death metal, even with a particularly thrashy sounding guitar line in places on Mastication of Putrescent Empyrean Remains really comes together on this album” – BigMetalBastard

2. Mastication of Putrescent Empyrean Remains 05:14

CASTLE Nominated For JUNO Award

Thrash-infused doom metallers CASTLE have been nominated for a Juno AwardCanada’s equivalent of a Grammy – in the “Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year” category for their stunning work on the 2012 release Blacklands. The Juno Awards ceremony will be held on April 21 in Regina, Saskatchewan, where the band will compete against fellow nominees Cancer Bats, Devin Townsend Project, Ex Deo and Woods of Ypres.

CASTLE, originally conceived by guitarist, songwriter and producer Mat Davis as a solo project, turned a meeting of hearts into the formation of a band. After meeting his wife Elizabeth Blackwell, who would become the group’s vocalist and bassist, Davis also reached out to his longtime friend and musical collaborator Al McCartney from Toronto to play drums. The power trio released their debut album In Witch Order via German label Van Records in 2011; it was revered by the press, including being named Metal Hammer Norway’s “Album of the Year” in addition to leading the Roadburn Festival to name the band “Newcomer of the Year.”

The band recorded their latest album, Blacklands, at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, Calif. with producer Billy Anderson (EyeHateGod, Neurosis, Cathedral, Sleep). Released by PROSTHETIC RECORDS in September 2012. The group filmed music videos for three songs from the album: the title trackCorpse Candles and Storm Below The Mountain.

Shortly after the release of Blacklands, the band embarked on a Scion A/V-sponsored North American tour with Witch Mountain and recently completed their first-ever headlining U.S. tour, which featured drummer Rae Amitay (Mares of Thrace, Woods of Ypres, Thrawsunblat) filling in for McCartney. Following a performance at SXSW, CASTLE will embark on a Western U.S. tour, after which they will support Intronaut on a spring European tour that includes a performance at the prestigious Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland. Tickets and tour dates can be found on the band’s website: heavycastle.com
