HIDDEN MASTERS Album To See U.S. Release In August

HIDDEN MASTERS Of This and Other Worlds to be released on August 6 via Metal Blade/Rise Above

Rise Above Records unearthed some of best and brightest talents in music over the last few years. One of their most recent additions, Glasgow’s Hidden Masters, added their unique twist on psychedelic rock/pop to the Metal Blade/Rise Above roster. Hidden Masters’ new album, Of This and Other Worlds, was released at end of May in Europe, and will finally be released in North America on August 6. Fans can stream Nobody Knows That We’re Here now at metalblade.com/hiddenmasters.

More about Hidden Masters:
Their first 7″, Nobody Knows That We’re Here was described by SHINDIG! magazine as “the most important psych-pop ’45 to come out of these fair isles for the past 30-something years.”

Debut album, Of This and Other Worlds is a true revelation. Defying genre imprisonment of any kind, Hidden Masters have ingeniously created their own world of mindbending musical ecclecticism, avoiding any notions of pastiche. Whilst there is a strong leaning towards 60’s pop and psych moves, the overall vibe is one that is vital, fresh and visionary.

Since their emergence at the turn of the decade, Glasgow-based trio Hidden Masters have been catching ears and turning heads with their dynamic ensemble sound, lush three-part vocal harmonies and a highly original and idiosyncratic fusion of musical styles, running the gauntlet from Rock’n’Roll to pop, West Coast Psych rock to Gospel and Folk to mind melting Vertigo-era prog, often all within one song, and positively aglow with melody, movement and imagination.

Their electrifying live shows offer the audience a one-stop intravenous blast of hedonistic joy, involving carnal flailing of limbs, euphoric wow-impulse neural stimulation and unprecedented levels of perspiration.

Fans recently caught them for a rare live London performance live on Sunday, April 21 @ Paper Dress Vintage.

The band also played a show at Glasgow’s King Tuts on April 17 with label mates Astra and Purson.

The group supported Wolf People, Pond, Smoke Fairies and Circulus, and guested on the recent Bonnie “Prince” Billy/Trembling Bells release The Marble Downs.

What people have said about Hidden Masters:

“Awe-inspiring” – The Guardian (UK)

“What makes this trio special beyond their exemplary musicianship and singing is their free form grasp of genre breaking. These are clearly masters of some hidden truth. Possibly the most unique band in the entire world” – SHINDIG!

“Enthralling and relentless” – The Daily Record

“Hidden Masters cite influences from Buddy Holly to Black Sabbath, but what we actually hear is glorious late sixties-esque garage, psych rock/pop done in a way that easily appeals to good music lovers of today” – The List

Cuban Metal Bands Performing At SXSW

Three Cuban metal bands landed in Miami on Sunday and will travel to Austin, TX to play the first ever show by a Cuban rock or metal band on U.S. soil on Friday night at SXSW. The three bands, Escape, Ancestor and Agonizer, have been working for months with SXSW and an organization called Unblock the Rock to secure the proper visas and paperwork, as well as to raise enough money to make the trip. The organization’s goal is to use heavy metal to help bridge the cultural and political gap between the U.S. and Cuba, which are separated by less than 90 miles of open water but have had virtually no diplomatic ties for the last 50 years. Last month, Unblock the Rock began selling a compilation of songs called The Red Album, which includes tracks by artists including EyeHateGod, the Supersuckers and Black Tusk, to help pay for the legal and travel costs.

Escape Celebrates Their Arrival in Miami

Tracey Noelle Luz, who started Unblock the Rock after spending months in Cuba filming a documentary about Escape called They Will Be Heard, flew to Miami to reunite with the band on Sunday and document their arrival.

“This is really incredible,” she said. “I’m so amazed that we were able to make this happen. The band is walking around like they’re in a dream. It wouldn’t have been possible without all the donations and the help of the artists on the compilations, sponsors lawyers, congressmen and especially the people at SXSW.”

The battle is not quite yet over though, and Unblock the Rock is still soliciting donations and selling copies of the Red Album here (http://unblocktherock.com/donate/) to pay for the bands’ travel and expenses while in the U.S.

Once the three bands are in Austin, they will be participating in a panel discussion, “Red Menace: Cuba’s Heavy Metal Underground” at 3:30 PM on Friday, March 15 at the Convention Center in Room 11AB that will be moderated by David Peisner, who traveled to Cuba last year to write about the country’s extreme metal scene for Spin. (Read the story here: http://www.spin.com/articles/red-menace-inside-hidden-world-extreme-cuban-metal) Then, on Friday night the three bands will take the stage (Escape at 8pm, Ancestor at 11pm, Agonizer at 12am) at The Jr. (603 Red River St.) for the first ever Cuban metal show on American soil. They will share the stage with two metal bands from Brazil, Eminence and Attomica, as well as one from Mexico, Motor.

Do not miss this truly historic night of what must be the loudest, wildest cultural diplomacy of all time.

UPON WINGS To Release EP In March

UPON WINGS is proud to announce the release of their new EP, Afterlife, featuring guest vocals and production from Brett Hestla (Ex-Creed, Dark New Day). Afterlife is scheduled for a March 5 release on Sword of the Spirit Records LLC.

The debut single and title track is set to hit alternative and rock radio and digital outlets on Jan. 15, but you can hear it HERE now. Check out an exclusive stream of the title track Afterlife.

Rock and metal fans will recognize plenty of names on Afterlife. Kid Rock recording engineer and Grammy-nominated mixing engineer Glenn Brown mastered the single, while Brett Hestla (ex-Creed, Dark New Day) provided guest vocals and production talents. More metal assistance for the upcoming EP came from producer and guitarist Kevin Jardine, best known as the guitarist of Canadian nu metal giants Slaves on Dope, formerly on Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne‘s Divine Recordings label. Drummer Peter Tzaferis also contributed to the EP.

Recording sessions for Afterlife took place at Johnny K’s legendary Groovemaster Studios in Chicago, where Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Staind and countless other heavy music-makers have laid down tracks.

UPON WINGS combines operatic, female-fronted goth-pop with rousing rock and metal in a unique, ethereal fashion. Frontwoman Anne Autumn Erickson is a classically-trained dramatic mezzo-soprano, and her lyrics take listeners down a path of heartfelt introspection, pain, joy and faith.

VERA CRUZ Stream New Song

VERA CRUZ – Skinandteethandnails album cover artwork

French hardcore assault VERA CRUZ is streaming the new track, Black Walls from their debut album, Skinandteethandnails. Click the image above to listen to the stream.

Skinandteethandnails embraces the fine art of serious ass kicking. Balancing melodic hardcore with rock influences, VERA CRUZ displays an astonishing mastery for such a young band. The album captures the explosive energy that the band unleashes during their live shows. Get ready to slam!

About the song, the band said:

“Our music is a blend of many genres, genres that we all love, and is hard to define precisely but there is this intangible cement that holds the whole thing together. Black Walls is not an exception to that rule. It’s a short, straight forward kinda in your face song that’s a tribute to our punk roots and our love for fast and simple music with a break down that comes from more modern influences. The ending is an off tempo acceleration inspired by thrash metal bands. Therefore Black Walls is a perfect definition for our style: a one minute and thirty seconds song where no less than three music genres coexist. This is Vera Cruz

Skinandteethandnails, which will be available as a CD-Digipak, is set for a North American release on January 22.

VERA CRUZ updates will be made available through the Season of Mist website, and the VERA CRUZ website and Facebook page.

Band Bio:

VERA CRUZ embrace the fine art of serious ass kicking with their debut album Skinandteethandnails. Balancing confidently on the edge of melodic Hardcore boosted by Rock ‘n’ Roll influences and Metalcore, the French display an astonishing mastery for such a young band.

Founding it in Paris in 2009, the members were leaving their old outfits based in a range of styles from Punk Rock to Metal behind to seek a new challenge. Eager to get on the road, they decided to give away their first four-track EP Surviving Farrah Fawcett (2010) and started touring in France, following immediately with three weeks in the USA. There VERA CRUZ shot a video clip for The Game with legendary director Ian McFarland (MESHUGGAH, FEAR FACTORY, AS I LAY DYING).

Back on European soil, extensive touring ensued with fifty shows alongside such renowned acts such as TERROR, EVERY TIME I DIE, ALL SHALL PERISH, CANCER BATS, D.R.I and UNEARTH.

Fuelled by the fast growing live experience, new songs took shape that VERA CRUZ finally recorded during summer 2011 with producer Fred Duquesne (WATCHA). Skinandteethandnails manages to fully capture the explosive energy and heart wrenching brutal emotionality that the French unleash during their maniacal stage performances. Get ready to jump, slam and surf the crowds with VERA CRUZ.

THE SHRINE: New Album in July

PRESS RELEASE

Venice Beach’s THE SHRINE to Release Primitive Blast on July 17

Hard Hitting Trio Signs with Tee Pee Records to Release Sophomore LP

Venice, CA LOUD rock band THE SHRINE has signed to Tee Pee Records.  The band’s new album Primitive Blast will be released on July 17. Boasting a BIG sound the trio has dubbed “Psychedelic Violence“, THE SHRINE – who Thrasher has called “a hard-hitting three-piece, combining the hooks and tones of classic rock with the energy and stage presence of a thrash band,” has been making waves in Los Angeles for the past few years, touring and sharing the stage with the likes of Kyuss Lives!, Pentagram, Graveyard, Fu Manchu, Howlin’ Rain, Holy Grail and The Sword. Primitive Blast is the highly anticipated follow up to THE SHRINE‘s 2010 self-titled debut which was produced by Black Flag’s Chuck Dukowski.

“It’s like crash landing our spaceship on some awesome planet where everyone is raging and headbangin’ and anyone who doesn’t like it can bless off,” said guitarist / vocalist Josh Landau of THE SHRINE‘s signing to Tee Pee Records. “We are most epicly stoked to present Tee Pee with “Primitive Blast”, our first true offering of psychedelic violence rock and roll.”

THE SHRINE “Primitive Blast” (Official Trailer) feat. NEW song “WHISTLINGS OF DEATH”!!

THE SHRINE are a pool-skating, acid-eating, rip-roaring trio whose “Psychedelic Violence Rock and Roll” will melt your face off!  The bad-ass new record Primitive Blast fuses the wilder riffs of your dad’s Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath LPs with the fury of a punk show getting busted by the cops and is so wild-eyed and surly that it has to be heard to be believed. Primitive Blast delivers a crossover bitch slap of gargantuan proportions that instantaneously announces THE SHRINE as the most devil-may-care gang of brothers to soil the streets of LA since DLR and EVH played The Troubadour. The band trancends labels like “hard rock”, “punk” and “heavy metal” and renders those tems obsolete.  Recorded on vintage gear and reel-to-reel tape through mountainous Marshall stacksPrimitive Blast is the perfect soundtrack to cracking your skull skating your neighbor’s empty pool (or to any other debaucherous gathering of longhairs), delivering nine blasts of searing guitar, spazzed-out drums and shook up bass lines that seriously signal THE SHRINE as a ticking time bomb that’s about to EXPLODE.

Members of THE SHRINE provide tech specs and introduce some history. ‘Primitive Blast’ is out on Tee Pee Records July 10th!
THE SHRINE is Josh Landau on guitar / vocals, Courtland Murphy on bass and Jeff Murray on Drums.

Updated news and tour information will be made available via THE SHRINE online & Tee Pee Records online (website / facebook / twitter)

“A great rock band.  I think they have the potential to have a real impact on the rock scene.” – Brant Bjork (Kyuss Lives!)

“THE RATTLES AND SHAKES that have been waking LA in the wee hours of the night are supposedly tremors in the earth’s surface, but those who know THE SHRINE know better. From Los Angeles comes a hard-hitting three-piece, combining the hooks and tones of classic rock with the energy and stage presence of a thrash band. Artwork vibrated on the paper-thin walls of a 75-person capacity room as it crammed 150-plus people through the doors to see THE SHRINE.  By the end of the night, the venue’s floor (and anyone within five yards of the band) was covered in sweat, blood, and beer. All signs of yet another successful show by THE SHRINE.” – THRASHER
