THE OCEAN main man Robin Staps comments:

“I can’t believe that this is finally… finished. We all kind of lost hope along the way, as the project totally grew out of proportion over the last 2 years. Originally we only wanted to film one single show, and by June 2012 we were sitting on top of a pile of 28 terabytes of data filmed across the globe during 2 full years. Countless live shows, interviews, crazy parties on Russian trains and funny moments in Chinese pharmacies. But then the worst part began: editing, choosing, compiling, structuring, which took another year. Now it’s done, for real! And I can safely say that you will be hard-pressed to find any other band DVD that is equally extensive, hilarious, profound and compelling, as this one. Everything you ever wanted to know about this band, from the early days until now… the answer is here! And a lot of things you didn’t wanna know as well…”

Collective Oblivion is something the band has been teasing for quite a while. Fans saw a glimpse of what sort of content would be on this release in the form of tour updates on youtube, including: Russia 2012 video blogThe Ocean in ChinaThe Ocean North American tour blog 2011, and more. Finally, fans will be able to order this thorough and expansive look at THE OCEAN’s career and touring experiences, including the Heliocentric record release show with an extended line-up of 13 musicians on stage; as well as a special performance at the museum for musical instruments in Berlin, and much, much more!

Collective Oblivion includes:
– Multiple camera shots of three full live concerts with a total of 21 individual song performances
– 130 minutes of THE OCEAN history, as told by band members, past and present
– 175 minutes of tour documentaries and live footage filmed in North America, Asia, Russia, Australia, and Europe
– Total run time of 500 minutes!

Collective Oblivion comes in a hardcover / book-style packaging with brass-foil print. The book contains 3 DVDs and a +30 pages booklet, with loads of photos, tour diaries and writings by band members and by director Alex Kraudelt, who dedicated 2 and a half years of his life to traveling with THE OCEAN around the globe. Collective Oblivion is the end result of this long odyssey, which produced a total of 28 terabyte of video data for editing.

WAR FROM A HARLOTS MOUTH Announce Hiatus

Post-hardcore metal vanguards WAR FROM A HARLOTS MOUTH announced that they will go on an “indefinite hiatus.”

After 8 years, 4 critically-acclaimed full length albums, and several well-received splits and EPs in between, the band have announced a departure date at the end of December. Regarding their imminent hiatus, the band have issued the following statement:

“Today we are writing to all of you with some bad news. You might have heard the rumors or read some press releases and they are right, but only to an extent: WFAHM is going into an indefinite hiatus at the end of the year.

There are a lot of reasons for us to make that move and believe me when I say that it’s not an easy decision. But it feels like it’s something we just have to do at this point. The last 7, 5 years have been awesome for the most part and we’re grateful for all the experiences and new friends we have made while traveling the world to show people what we’re all about. We have toured places we never thought we’d get to see, such as Australia, Russia, almost the entire USA and all across Europe of course. We have made friends for life on the road. We have grown immensely as musicians and turned this band into something we are very proud of.

Being in this band has been a great experience for each and everyone of us and it took us to places and opened up doors we couldn’t even dream of. Being that the band started as a side project, we always stuck to the original spirit of making music that was outside of the box and therefor survived much longer than a lot of bands who were trying to be a part of certain hypes. We never cared for that, we just wanted to do our own thing and feel like we have achieved that. We want to thank everyone who’s involvement made it possible for us to do what we do… you most definitely know who you are.

The scene we’re a part of used to be an inspiring subculture but has turned into an abortion of mainstream accessibility, with choreographed stage moves and cute little matching outfits. It’s frustrating to witness and really makes it less fun to go out and play with new bands sometimes. However, this is not a breakup, it’s a hiatus. Sooner or later we might find the urge to come back and slay!”

The band has scheduled a final string of live dates, including some festival appearances. A full list of the band’s final confirmed tour dates can be found below.

Female-Fronted International Rock Sensation LOUNA to Release New Album Behind A Mask on April 30, 2013 via Red Decade Records and MEG/RED

The album will open the eyes and ears of the American rock music scene by showcasing the pure blistering talent of LOUNA and the soaring vocals of the band’s lead singer Lousine “Lou” Gevorkian (in a world that has become immersed in autotune and over-production, Behind A Mask boasts true musical talent with only 10-15 seconds of vocal correction on the entire 45-minute record). It features 10 of the band’s best songs from their first two albums and have been painstakingly adapted into English by American producer and lyricist Travis Leake (the SLoT). The album was mixed by renowned producer/engineer Dan Korneff (Breaking Benjamin, The Pretty Reckless, Papa Roach, My Chemical Romance, Paramore) and mastering duties were handled by the legendary Ted Jensen of Sterling Sound, New York.

On March 26, Behind A Mask will be available for pre-order and the tracks Mama and Business will be released as singles. This will be the first time that Business is released as a single anywhere. Stay tuned for a pre-order link coming soon. The accompanying music video for the first single, Business, is one of the most expensive and elaborate productions in Russian music history according to the film company, InnerVision.

LOUNA’s reputation extends beyond their musicality to include the focus of their personal passions as found in their lyrics and actions. They are the most commercially successful rock band of the modern protest movement (of which Pussy Riot became the most internationally renowned). They donated their song The Time of X to the White Album project raising funds for Pussy Riot’s support and defense. MTV USA came to Moscow in October of 2012 and featured LOUNA in an upcoming documentary about protest music around the world called “Rebel Music”, which should air in the fall of 2013 on MTVU nationwide

Formed in 2008 by Tracktor Bowling lead singer Lousine Gevorkian and bassist Vitaly Demidenko, the idea behind LOUNA was to pursue wider musical ideas that didn’t fit in with their original band. They recruited guitarists Rouben Kazariyan and Sergey Ponkratiev, and drummer Leonid “Pilot” Kinzbursky. After the release of their first EP which lyrically focused on the many modern social problems that exist, they were quickly named the aforementioned 2009 Best New Artist of the Year at the annual Russian Alternative Music Prize (RAMP) awards.

They released their first album, Let’s Get Louder in December of 2010, selling out every venue during their first national tour of Russia supporting the album. Two singles, Fight Club and Let’s Get Louder reached #1 on the Russian radio charts, with Fight Club remaining in the top 10 for a record-breaking 16 weeks and being named the 2011 Rock Song of the Year at the annual Nashe Awards. Along with this, LOUNA was nominated for Breakthrough Artist and Solo Performance of the year. Their second album, The Time of X, released in February of 2012 already produced a #1 single, Mama, and their most recent single People Looking Up entered the Russian charts in the top 10.

LOUNA has performed on the main stage at every major festival throughout Russia. Earlier in 2012, they were invited to perform as one of the main headliners at the 50th birthday concert festival honoring Russian rock legend Victor Tsoi of the band Kino, playing to audiences of over 15,000 people in both Moscow and St. Petersburg.

SCYTHIA Release Christmas Track

Canada’s favorite purveyors of folk/prog metal, Scythia are back once again with a re-mixed and re-mastered version of their holiday tune …Of Santa, a cheerful track about Santa and his brave reindeer!

In additional news, Scythia unleashed their latest music video Video Game Medley in support of their new EP For The Bear released early this fall.

metal video game medley by scythia

About:

Following the success of their 2010 release …Of War and 2011 release …Of Exile, Scythia unleashed their 2012 scorcher, For the Bear, this fall.

The short, but sweet seven-track EP departs from the orchestration and central concept of its predecessors, instead representing a leaner, faster, sharper folk metal machine.

“The songs are faster, more exciting, heavier and straight to the point,” says vocalist/guitarist Dave Khan.

“There’s much less of the acoustic interludes and extensive progressive sections in favor of capturing the excitement of folk/power metal. The result is a more modern and conservative mix that showcases our ability to play rippin’ folk metal.

So what is Scythia?

Taking its name from Khan’s infatuation with a painting of Nordic/Russian warriors riding bears while brandishing swords, Scythia not only “gives the painting musical significance,” but it is also

“the name of an ancient empire spanning from the Caucasus through Russia and into Eastern Scandinavia,” says Khan.
