ANCIIENTS Streaming New Album

Progressive rock/metal outfit ANCIIENTS are streaming their Season of Mist debut, Heart of Oak in it’s entirety here.

Named “One of 2013’s most anticipated albums” (Decibel) and “thunderous, commanding and catchy” (popmatters.com), ANCIIENTS’ Heart of Oak is poised to become one of early 2013’s most anticipated albums. The modern, progressive quartet craft songs as nuanced and expressive as the range of human emotion, without eschewing their hard rock/heavy metal roots. Tracks such as Raise the Sun, Falling in Line, The Longest River, and Faith & Oath hit hard and resonate deeply and with Heart of Oak as their calling card, ANCIIENTS exude the confidence of a band beyond their years.

The Vancouver-based quartet are also featured on the cover of the British Columbia edition of Canada’s BeatRoute Magazine. The cover can be seen here and ensuing story read here. BeatRoute Magazine is a monthly arts and entertainment paper with a predominant focus on music – local, independent or otherwise. The paper, started in June 2004, is distributed throughout Western Canada.

Additionally, ANCIIENTS recently announced their participation as part of the forthcoming Death To All Tour. ANCIIENTS will tour alongside legendary metal icons Paul Masvidal, Steve DiGiorgio, and Sean Reinert: The Human lineup of legendary metal pioneers, DEATH.

Regarding the tour, guitarist Kenneth Cook said, “We are completely stoked and overjoyed to be invited to play on the ‘DEATH TO ALL’ tour. Chuck Schuldiner and Death are legendary, and it’s an honor to be able to celebrate his life for a great cause.”

A portion of the Death To All tour proceeds will once again benefit the Sweet Relief charity, a non-profit devoted to helping musicians without insurance who are facing serious illness. A full list of tour dates can be found below.

ANCIIENTS Stream New Song, Announce Tour Dates

Progressive rock/metal outfit ANCIIENTS premiered a new song from their forthcoming album, Heart of Oak. The new track, Faith and Oath is streaming here.

Regarding the song, guitarist Chris Dyck said,“Faith and Oath began lyrically with some combo ideas about the Mayan’s serpent-god beliefs and a strange dream I had about a snake-killing ritual. The serpent originally was representing the deceiver; as the song progressed and the vibe was realized it became our anthem for courage and strength. The chorus features Scott Ruddy from Weirding (killer doomy Vancouver band) on vocals with me. The proggy fast riff is what i like to call a “ninja riff”…looks hard, easy to play. Kenny’s solo here is mental and I love how Hannay and Boon shift the timing on the last 2 repetitions of the solo riff to a swinging old 3/4 beat. The outro has Kenny laying down some sweet Dave Gilmours. We all dig Pink Floyd…Gilmour is the man. Cheers.”

ANCIIENTS also announced their participation in the Death To All Tour. ANCIIENTS will tour alongside legendary metal icons Paul Masvidal, Steve DiGiorgio, and Sean Reinert: The Human lineup of legendary metal pioneers, DEATH. The tour spans 3 weeks, hitting a dozen cities across North America.

Regarding the tour, guitarist Kenneth Cook said,“We are completely stoked and overjoyed to be invited to play on the DEATH TO ALL tour. Chuck Schuldiner and Death are legendary, and it is an honor to be able to celebrate his life for a great cause.”

A portion of the proceeds will once again benefit the Sweet Relief charity, a non-profit devoted to helping musicians without insurance who are facing serious illness. A full list of tour dates on the TOUR DATES page.

“One of 2013’s most anticipated albums”Decibel

“The foursome’s brand of metal is thunderous yet always focused on melody, striking a strong balance between commanding and catchy. Unlike much of today’s mainstream metal acts, these guys know how to write honest-to-goodness songs, showing tremendous discipline amidst all the instrumental flamboyance, and are primed to put their young peers to shame” Popmatters.com, The Best Hopes to Break Out in 2013

DEATH TO ALL Announce North American Tour Dates

The esteemed DEATH TO ALL Tour, celebrating the life and music of DEATH mastermind Chuck Schuldiner, will be returning in 2013 for an even larger run of dates. After a successful 2012 run, the tour, now referred to as DTA1, will feature the original lineup of DEATH from Human — guitarist Paul Masvidal, bassist Steve Di Giorgio, and drummer Sean Reinert, with special guest vocalist/guitarist Max Phelps of Cynic/Exist. The band will be playing a selection of songs from the first four DEATH albums including the cream of the Human album.

Once again, the spirit of the tour is to spread the word and raise money for the charity Sweet Relief, while keeping the music and legacy of Chuck Schuldiner alive. A second version of the tour, dubbed DTA2, is planned for North America later this year, and will focus on the final three DEATH albums, plus a one-off European date at Neurotic Deathfest May 3 that will cover the entire DEATH catalog. A complete listing of dates can be found on the TOUR DATES page (above), where a limited number of VIP tickets are available.

Additionally, 2013 will continue to see the deluxe reissues of DEATH’s catalog by Relapse Records. Over the last couple of years, the label has painstakingly reissued and remastered the later albums from the DEATH catalog including The Sound of Perseverance, Individual Thought Patterns, Human, Spiritual Healing and other Chuck Schuldiner related releases. These DEATH titles are currently available for streaming at this location.

Progressive visionaries CYNIC entered Perfect Sound studios in Hollywood, California to begin recording a new album.

About the new material, drummer Sean Reinert said:

“This album marks CYNIC’s 5th release. It’s a bold new sound for CYNIC and marks a gigantic leap in the band’s progression. We’ve had a lot of time to let this material develop and gestate, and it finally feels ready to be unleashed on the world. I’ve been in trio mode with Malone and Masvidal flushing out a zillion and one details, and couldn’t be happier about what’s happening with these songs. They are truly alive!”

Early working titles for tracks include: Endlessly Bountiful, Moon Heart Sun Head, and True Hallucination Speak.

CYNIC news and tour updates will be made available through the Season of Mist website and the CYNIC website and Facebook page.
